Just noticed the apt 'subtitle'to this post.

Some say the term, 'Daylight Robbery' comes from a tax in Britain on windows.

Absolutely .

That's why you see hundred's of victorian houses with windows that where once there and then removed and bricked up when the government of the day introduced the window tax , just another way of leeching money from us common people......... :angry2

Often wondered if it could ever be calculated just how much of a £1 earned that a working Joe actually gets in reality after all the Tax elements (often compounded) are taken out - Income Tax at source, NI, etc, then when he spends; VAT, Tax on Fuel etc (all up the supply chain). Precious few pence on the pound I reckon.

this calculation was done here in OZ about 5/6 years ago. From memory total taxes accounted for 68 cents in the $.

Taxes here have gone through the roof since.

. Just can't remember how it was calculated.

I think it would very much depend on what he spent it on.

Your example of fuel is a good one, that alone is 60% on top of the already taxed £ in your pocket.

Precious few pence left on the £ earned....and precious few earning those £s.

Yes but theres 'hidden' tax in everything...your groceries from the supermarket for example encompass not only VAT but delivery fuel, company TAX, etc etc all along the supply chain...who pays it all? the end user is who

Yes VAT has been with us since forever (now 20% FFS)

But you lot are quite new to this...in the UK we're still waiting for Napoleon to be defeated so that income tax can be recinded ;)
