Thailand approves layout for Formula 1 circuit

Recommended Posts

Gents,

I have just read this on ThaiVisa. I think this would be great news should it get underway in 2015 and would surely impact on Pattaya, being only a couple of hours down the road. Also imagine prices for flights and hotels will go crazy for the week of the racing.

Regards,

BANGKOK: -- Thailand is making progress with its plans to hold an inaugural Formula 1 race in 2015 after local authorities approved the layout for the proposed Bangkok track this week.

The Sports Authority of Thailand met on Thursday to discuss the concept, and confirmed that a 5.995 kilometre circuit would be created near the Royal Thai Naval Dockyard in Bangkok.

The circuit will run past several major tourist destinations, including the Grand Palace, the Temple of Dawn and Victory Monument.

I have been in Bahrain for the race week it is basically a zoo. Rooms rates go through the roof (2-3 times normal) IF you can even get reservations then. While Bangkok would have more rooms, I would certainly stay away that week.

Is the race even on the F1 schedule? I wonder which country will lose theirs.

More than Bahrain or Singapore?

Bahrain is late April and the average high then is just under 90F

Abu Dhabi is early November and the highs are also under 90F

Singapore is late September and also under 90F

Unless Thailand has it in march- may, it would have the same highs

There is only one street circuit that cuts the mustard " Monaco " the original and the best , the others don't even come close....... :bow

I agree most of the street circuits are a joke from a racing point of view. Just on the calendar to attract money to F1. Same goes for night racing, what idiot thought that up.
