In room safe, what hotels

I'm looking for hotels that have in room safe? Here are a few in Pattaya and Bangkok.

Queen Victoria Inn

Mamaison Hotel

 

Bangkok

 

Majestic Suites

Manhatten Hotel

Sheraton Royal Orchid

 

If available I prefer to stay at a hotel with this feature as it puts to rest the issue of a BG stealing your wallet, passport, camera etc.

The Res Garden has inroom safes...

Hard Rock Hotel, Marriott, Nova Lodge (bettter rooms)

Ditto that.. I like having alot of talent in the room so my only private area is the safe....Very careful about that and have never lost anything I didn't plan on!

I prefer rooms that have electronic safes such as the Residence Gardens rather than those that have safes that you open with a key.

A word of caution regarding in room safes.  An in-room safe doesn't protect you in any way.  By installing that safe in your room, the hotel is acknowledging that it doesn't trust its own security and staff.  If anything goes missing from that in-room safe, or your room for that matter, the hotel is not liable.  Your only real protection is to use the safe-deposit boxes behind the hotel's front desk---and never leave anything of value in the room.

Mont: You're right. But my friend OJ has told me that an in-room safe is quite good for keeping sextoys, viagra and his XL girlie underwear (which is for him)... and other stuff he doesn't want to show the maid or the TG at first...

In Bangkok, JW Marriott, Sheraton, Westin, Landmark, Banyan Tree, Shangri-La, Peninsular, Marriott Spa, Hyatt all have electronic room safes.

 

In Pattaya, the Residence Garden has the ecectric safe, sorry but don't know about others.

The Roof Garden Inn has in room electronic safes the only trouble is it's a bit far away from the action.

The residence garden has in room safes and you can pick your own code, the Queen Victoria has them and you have to sign for a key.  The Sabai Inn on soi 2 has safes behind the check in.  Those are the three I know of, i like the Residence Garden.

I also much prefer the in room safes with number code. But on the one they use in Residence Garden, where you have to puch in your number every time a new after you opened it, and it also displays the new number for a few seconds, I found this strange. First the girl might be on yyour side while you do put in the number. You can probably type a number on a number Keyboard on such a way that she cannot read it, but with the display she (probably) can. And, especially after a night´, filled with laughter, kisses, drinks and general debauchery, the chance is quite big that you punch in a different number than the one you are usually do when closing, giving you an even harder time next morning.

apex hotel on second road has them hidden in the

wardrobe you pay a deposite for the block-lock.

haven hotel has them but i dont reccomend the rooms

And he writes his ATM code where ? on the outside of the safe ?

 

Still a 1 in 9999 chance but yes, if they did get lucky, they might try the same number.

 

Continuing on electronic safes. Does anyone know what happens if you keep putting in the wrong code. Does it lock out like an ATM or what. I was just thinking that if it did not, they could just stay there and keep tring sequential numbers until it opened.

 

Does the safe monitor incorrect numbers for management ?

You're all focusing on in-room safes WAY too much.  So let me set the record straight:

 

1) LOS is SAFE in general.  Ain't nobody going to rob you (though you could get wiped out in a traffic accident).

 

2) Granted, an in-room safe is more convenenient than using the one at the hotel's desk, but choosing a hotel based on this criteria is losing the plot.

 

3) If you should manage to forget your "secret" number (and no, you shouldn't use your birth date, your street address, or any other "natural" number), the hotel can always open it up with a "master" number.

 

4) Whether you use an in-room safe or the hotel's safe, it's unlikely that your money will be stolen.  A smooth-running hotel operation is far more valuable than having to deal with the police and ensuing bad reputation.

 

5) Using your ATM card in place of cash and traveler's checks (a major hassle) is more convenient and avoids the problem of theft or fraud.  Just be sure to contact your ATM company before leaving to verify that it'll work while in Thailand.

I disagree. There are BG that will steal from you. My favorite BG, Pokky that I've known for 2 years told me about a girl who has a face like a angel that will rip you off. She will find out when you leave and on your last night she will clean you OUT. She will pay her barfine for a few days or a week and then come back to work when the coast is clear. I was told that she has made off with 25k and another 35k. One guy stayed another day or two and came by with the police. Mamasan said sure she works here but she paid barfine and not here. Guy goes home, police drop it. When I was in Pattaya in May she still worked at the bar. There are BG like her all over Pattaya. Some will only take a few hundred. Who counts there money when they come back from a night of drinking? I know I don't

 

A little paranoid, ya but at least I get to keep all my money. ;D

I guess I've been lucky (or stupid) but I've never been ripped off.  So the concern isn't with your major money that's already in a safe (either the in-room or the hotel safe).  Okay.  Now I see your point.

 

But just how much are we talking about?  I change $300 (about 12000 baht) when I go to the ATM.  When I go out for a night I'll take, say, 5000 to 6000 baht.  The rest is stashed somewhere in the room.

 

You arrive back in the room later that evening with your new-found love.  How much money is left to steal?  Now, if your girl is taking a shower by herself (I always offer to shower together but sometimes you get the "me shy" routine), you can always stash the evening's cash somewhere out of sight.

 

In any case, an in-room safe is not a criteria for me when choosing a hotel.  For me, the absolute necessity is a 2-person shower.  I couldn't care less about the rest.

Tims Beer Bar has 2 in-room safes , 1 electronic & 1 which uses a standard padlock you provide yourself . If you forget the password they can open the safe with a pass key ( the previous occupant had left the safe locked ) .

I'm easy either way, if I dont have a safe I leave most my money, passport etc. at the front desk safe.  I travel with a suitcase that has a combination lock on it, I just put my wallet in there so my small money is locked in my room (say less than 15,000) ....in my suitcase and my important documents and cash are at the front desk.

 

Last trip I lost the key to the front desk safe (stayed at the Pinewood which is almost opposite soi 6).  I had to stand there for 20 minutes while they drilled the lock out, completly destroyed the lock. Think that cost me 2or 3 thousand, but did see how bloody hard it is to open the safety boxs.

Completely proves my point about electronic safes being highly desirable.

They may be highly desirable, but not always cost effective.  If I can get a very nice hotel for 600 baht a night without electronic room safe and the hotels with electronic room safes cost 800 baht a night, thats a 200 per night savings.  I stay for 30 days so that a 6000 baht savings.  I've never lost a key, but if I did it would cost between 2000-3000 baht, so even then I would save 3000-4000 baht on the trip.  In the last 2 years I've spent 6 month in Pattaya and I've never had anything stolen out of my room.  Since my bank doesn't charge me any ATM fees, I don't carry much baht on me and hit the ATM daily, so in a way the ATM is my electronic safe.  A few times my guest for the previous night went with me to the nearby ATM the next morning after breakfast because I was a little short.
