Driving school for Thais -- any recommendations?

Recommended Posts

I've promised the missus that I'd teach her to drive a car or get someone to teach her...it's been 4 years now, and it's about time I followed thru.

So, after a moment of self-examination, I have decided that there is no way I will teach her in my car...patience and collision repairs outweigh my desire to save money on training.

Consequently, I would like to know if anyone has any first or second hand recommendations for a driving instructor or school with a good reputation in the South/Central Pattaya or North Jomtien area.

Links, phone numbers, prices, etc would be appreciated.

Martin, do a search back a bit. I posted a link to a driving school on Threppasit Road just after you turn in from Thrappaya Road on the left. I sent my wife to learn to drive there a few years back. It cost about 5000 baht all in, including going for tests etc. Was money well spent as i did not have the patience either. And my wife passed first time

bigmick, I found a thread from 2007 started by kev0184...was it in there?

Anyway, the directions you give are pretty good, so I might just pop by there.

Any other recommendations, guys?

Also, There is a driving school coming down 3rd. rd. toward Pattaya Klang from Pattaya Nua. It is on the left about 3 or 4 doors from the 3rd. Klang intersection. They have a driving course set up at the Lake with all the same things you do at the test center. I have enrolled 3 ladies and know several others that used it. Seems to work fine as they are all licensed.

I dont think that, i believe the ones who drive like fickin idiots are never taught to drive, they will have paid 500 baht for a license in the village and then get behind the wheel and away they go. My wife was taught to drive at the school on Threppasit Road and she is a really good driver and i feel totally relaxed with her at the wheel.

A mate wrote about a year ago:

"Her school was in Naklua itself. For people who know Naklua they will all know the big tree in the middle of the road. Well the school is about 100 yards short of the tree on the left as you enter Naklua from Pattaya.

There is another on south Pattaya road same side as friendship about 100 yards from tai/3rd road lights.

Not looked recently but there was one on Klang across from Foodland."

  • 3 weeks later...

A friend of mine just paid for his tgf to get a licence with no lessons. Needless to say within a year she wrote off his car !!

I am surprised it took that long , i think a large percentage of Thai's get their licence this way.....!
