Check the review section. IMHO well over 95% of the hotels in Pattaya do not have any guest fees. I always book a double. So far never a hassle.

In general the hotels and resorts that would rate four stars or more charge a guest fee. Included are hotels like the Hard Rock,  Royal Cliff, Marriott Royal Garden, etc., all the average level hotels seem to be fee of guest fees. But if you can't find the answer in the review section email the hotel.

I've stayed at the hard rock twice and there are NO guest fees also with the marriot it depends on when your staying there . I've had friends staying there during Cobra Gold and they paid ZERO baht in guest fees(don't know if Uncle Sam had something to do with that) .

Iain,

As stated email or call the hotel and ask if not sure.  Also some have no guest gee but charge you if you bring in more than 1 girl at a time.

Mrt,

As you said during cobra gold the Marriott doesn't charge a guest fee. To many problems knowing who is military and who to charge so they look the other way. The Hard Rock will charge for more than one guest or many times if you don't book a double room. But it is still a good hotel.

Guest charge is a scam. As you buy not per person, but per room, the staff have nothing to do with your guests. The only question maybe the breakfast. In the Seabreeze after some strict countenance they offered me no guest charge, but she can't have a breakfast. In the Sigma resort  on the first night the staff asked guest charge, I told them : " Nice try guys, do you want I call RCI? " No other scams, just big hellos.

  • 3 weeks later...

I posted this on the nana boards but here goes.

If you book an hotel at the cheap end of the price spectrum, then you are beholding to them for your bed, shelter etc. However, if you book into a 4/5* hotel, they are beholding to you. There never is a problem with guests, unless you flood the place or have the music on full blast at 4am !

Me thinks many worriers about guest fees have not researched their hotels and certainly have not stayed at one 5* chains.

So Cal Guy. NO. RCI is the biggest time sharing organization. You know, when you buy 1-2-3 week in an aparthotel and changing weks for different places.

I have a timeshare & used it on our last visit, after the event discovered that it was way over priced mainly because I upgraded to a one unit two bedroom but still pricey. We are staying at the Rembrandt for two days & was emailed with a price of 1000 bt per nite per girl, hence my research

Iain, I don't understand you. I have 4 week time share for a one bedroom unit. Without any extra expenses RCI changed it for me to Pattaya to  a 2 bedroom king suite in last year and in this year.  As I mentioned only one try at the Sigma. No any problems in other hotels, I mean no any visitor fee.

Check it.

Most Pattaya (and Bangkok) Hotel rooms are charged as Double rooms, so (most) dont charge fora joiner.

However when you bring a third person into the equation, they are within their rights to charge you for the 3rd person. Some will, some wont (just like a 3rd girl ;D)

You however are equally within your rights to check out and go elsewhere

As I don't want to offend the Deputy Interior Minister (DIM) by being a person of low quality who spends little, I'll be staying at the Dusit shortly.

I'm only paying the single rate for the room, and even if you add the guest fee to that, it's still cheaper than booking a double.

So there you go, no rip off.   ;D

Apart from an arm and a leg, obviously.  :D

be seeing you

I'm looking into a package deal from Manila to Pya.  Includes airfare, transfers from Bkk airport and return and 3 nights at Amari Orchid.  $445.  I don't see any reviews of Amari on the board.  Any comments.  This price includes a single supplement.  Any experiences with guest fees at this hotel?  Is this more like a resort with rooms spread out around the grounds?

Definately has Joiner fee, and has done for over 10 years now. Rooms are just normal hotel rooms, and small at that.

Joiner fee was 500/night for a long time, although I did hear (second hand) that up to 1000 is asked nowadays. My associate had also paid a single supplement, and demanded meeting with manager; All to no avail. In the end he took another room in the Flipper, for night use (worked out cheaper having the 2 rooms back then!)

Hotel food expensive, miniscule and crap ("quote" "I reckon some bastard ate half of my breakfast before they brought it to the room!")

Plus sides- Super pool and grounds, but don't stumble into the baby elephant (if it's still there) on your way back through the grounds, in the dark of night!
