FYI, Cathay is now flying direct Boston to Hong Kong!

 

The prices are a bit higher than NYC but seems like it might be worth the extra $$ if you are that much closer to Logan. Getting to JFK is always a hassle.

 

Why no one else flies direct to Hong Kong from Boston with such a large population of Southern Chinese and S.E. Asians always seemed to defy logic.

I see. I don't think the JFK - HKG route ever took me over Russia or the polar route. I did fly Thai Air direct a couple of times from JFK to BKK (direct) on the polar route. I got paired up in Bangkok with a Thai air traffic controller who told me it was very dangerous and he would never think of flying that way.
