Why did Greece's bid to host the 2018 Football World Cup fail?

The greatest irony is that the country that cares least about football in the whole world is the one putting it's house back in order……...

Well done the FBI.

Hi,

One would think that with all the dodgy pro sport, and Wall St, in the US they would have enough on their hands. :clueless

Maybe - but great that the FBI did what Europe could not and pushed out Sepp Blatter. I just hope the replacement will clean up FIFA.

Hi,

I think all pro sport administration is pretty dodgy. Europe could do it but choose not to. Bit like the bankers who are scamming much more than FIFA. None of those guys are doing any time and not likely to. The bankers own the politicians, like Blatter owned the Federations in Africa and ASIA.

Yes many of the sports international governing bodies are corrupt and the fiefdom of people who are just interested in getting as much as they can for themselves (and their families as they accumulate more than they could ever spend in their own life time).

The only answer as I see it is for countries to bring laws on sports ethics, making it illegal for their national sporting organisations to subscribe too or make payments to any international sports body unless they have an ethics policy that is fair, they are a "Not for Profit" organisation, their finances are transparent and all payments and expenses made to employees are reasonable.

Hi,

Good idea, but hard to implement. Lots of charities are run by the great and the good who take massive salaries for themselves.

History does not bode well. For those of us old enough and sober enough to remember, Blatter was meant to be the "breath of fresh air" and was well supported by UK amongst many others at the time, to clean up it's act after the decidedly dodgy Havalange's reign. I also don't believe that EUFA are squeaky clean either.

Hmmm.....thread appears out of place now ! Must be heading for another petulant "back to the OPs original quote" type admonishment ! :P

Hi,

I don't pay great attention to any of these jokers as I assume they are all bent.

There are extensive trade links between France and Qatar, including the purchase of Paris St Germain by QSI, and in early 2012 Platini's son Laurent was employed by a Qatari sportswear firm it also owned.
