Looking for a cheap flight from Manchester (UK) to BKK on or around the 15th April 2004 - anyone know of any good deals going - if so please PM me.

patk,

Cheapest, with general availability at the moment, is Finnair at circa GBP480 incl taxes.  Book through any of the major agents.

Qatar is due to go daily from MAN commencing on 5 Apr but the additional flights don't appear to have found their way onto the systems yet.  When they do, you could reasonably expect some offers from them.  Likewise, Emirates is expected to announce a third daily service from MAN which could commence as early as Apr.  However, they don't seem to have any problem filling their aircraft and that is reflected in their current price availability.

As ron_ju pointed out, always ask the agent if they have any offers.

Regards,

Tom

You couldd also try China Airlines. You fly from Manchester to Amsterdam then on to Bangkok. Airline warehouse seem to give the best prices for this airline. I think the number is 0121-508 8000. I fly with them on April 7th. The price I was given was £425 + tax of £54.

Join the frequent flyer club, every third flight you can get an upgrade.

Dont mess about - book Emirates - Man > Dubai > BKK

An excellent service with a break about half way into your flight at a very comfortable airport (Dubai). I've paid £534 for a departure on 18 March.

daveuk,

And you will now need your break half-way through the journey.  Emirates has recently changed its Manchester operating aircraft from A330 to a high-density (charter) seat-fit 777 i.e. 10 seats across as opposed to 9.  On top of this every departure seems to be absolutely packed so very little chance of any extra room being available.

Probably better off on the Singapore Airlines non-stop (to Singapore) 777-200ER, a lot roomier with better IFE and cabin crew.  Because it flies a more northerly route than Emirates, overall, it only puts 1 hour on the total travelling time to LOS including a 3 hour stop in equally impressive Changi.  Some sites summarise Singapore as having 32" seat pitch - that is true on the 747 but on this particular aircraft it is the full 34".

Regards,

Tom

Mr Tench

I've flown Emirates Manchester/Dubai/BKK quite a few times. The wait in Dubai is 3 hours. I like the stop over. Chance to have a walk-a-bout. Departure and arrival time are good too. Arrive BKK mid-day - in Pattaya by 17.00.

Bit concerned about what Tom says. I have an upgrade on the way out as far as Dubai. I plan to fly out 2 days after you, staying for a month - pre-retirement visit. Officially retire to LOS in July. Maybe we can hook up for a drink. I used to live in the Park - worked for Raleigh. Now in Scarborough.

Take care - Patrick

Baz,

Emirates is circa 3 hour layover in both directions.  Flights from Manchester go out at around 2 and 8 p.m. each day.  Be careful with some cheaper availability as some connections are showing a 9 hour layover i.e. fly out on the afternoon flight but get held over for the evening flight connection.

If you are in Notts why don't you travel from Birmingham on the Emirates flight from there?  You can do a two-and-a-half hour stopover on the outbound and one-and-a-half hour stopover on the return on A330s throughout the whole journey.  However, the same principle as MAN applies to Birmingham regarding the cheapest fares = long stopover.

Never really looked too hard at Kuwait Air - not flying from MAN, they don't really have much to offer me.  If Heathrow was my local airport, of the cheapies, I would be tempted to look at Sri Lankan.  They have improved enormously over the last few years, have new planes and Emirates management running the show.

Regards,

Tom

if you read this, what are the layover times in dubai from manchester?

ive always got the bus to heathrow in the past (nottingham) but have been offered emirates from manchester for under 500.

also any opinion on kuwait air?

I used to travel Kuwait Airways a lot. Change of Aircraft wasnt too bad and they always gave you a whopping great breakfast in the upstairs restaurant on the way back inbound (including bacon !)

My only gripe was the reading of part of the Quoran before every take off

I've used Emirates a fair bit and they are pretty good.

You appreciate the chance to stretch your legs for 3 hours in Dubai, which is a good airport.

Singapore Airlines probably just shade it as the better airline but difficult to get cheapies with them.

Alternatives would be KLM or SAS which both have good connection times from Manchester.

KLM,in particular, were very good.....SAS seats were a bit hard.....not so good for an 11 hour journey.

A couple of decent websites are Expedia and Travelmood where you can book online and receive the tickets in 48 hours.

Yes I'm off to LOS 18 March on Emirates and according to Tom its going to be a bit of a crush on board. Ah well I think I can put up with 12 hours on the plane with the prospect of 3 weeks in Pty !.

I'm semi retired and tinkering with the idea of moving to Pty - mind you if I dont I can live with 3 visits a year of 3 weeks a time !.

Let me know if you would like to meet for a beer - maybe I will be on my own, as my mate cannot make up his mind whether to go or not.

(I'm from the Manchester Area)

Kuwait is a non-drinking, non-smoking airline. The stopover looks pretty good on paper, but I have never left on time to go to the UK.

The airport, the last time I was there, was a smokers paradise. There were very few restrictions. It is also clean and well mantained. It makes LHR T3 look third world. It must also be one of the most boring airports in the world. Duty free is reasonable, but no booze.

Regards,

Andy

Sparkey - My flight arrives bangkok 12:05 19 March - e-mail me if yours co-incides enough to share a taxi.

If not I'm always up for a beer or two with like minded Pattaya enthusiasts.

Cheers Dave
