KLM From Southampton to BKK from May !

With the release of the the information that from may 2016 KLM is running 2 flights a day from Southampton and Inverness to Amsterdam every day, I did some sniffing and found flights on KLM from Southampton to Bangkok Via Amsterdam for £451 not bad for a one stop flight. And the railway station is only across the road from the Airport.

The change of aircraft in Amsterdam is a bit of a bummer though

You may want to look at booking the UK-Amsterdam legs separately from the Amsterdam-Bangkok legs. OK, going through immigration/customs in Amsterdam then checking in again would be a pain, but there could be significant savings on the extortionate UK taxes.

That is a good approach to saving money on the booking but I am always fearful that I would not make it to say Amsterdam on time, particularly on a budget carrier who are known to be unhelpful when there are flight delays or cancellation. Will any of them check your baggage through?

If your bags are booked through, HMRC would treat that as a single journey & apply the full long distance tax. I've looked into it.

I was thinking or whether you could book 2 separate journey/tickets and since they are already paid for HMRC would not be aware of your arrangements, nor would your final carrier be until you checked in and asked the primary carrier to check them through. I guess HMRC have managed to close that hole somehow.

Surely the 1st carrier is not going to have access to your booking with the second carrier?

I live in Southampton so this could be an option for me but I promised myself three years ago that I wouldn't fly indirect ever again and I can't see that changing but I must admit knowing that I could get in a taxi and be at Southampton airport in ten minutes could make a short changeover and the extra two hours I'd spend on flights bearable.

I have managed to check bags through from BA domestic to another carrier at Heathrow, and I believe that I checked in again at a LHR desk at the miserable Connections centre..

They do have access to that booking with limited abilities I believe..

Yes, way back in the past when I used to use EVA, I had to arrange my own flights to Heathrow with either British Midland or BA. They would always check the baggage right through to Bangkok, and return flights too, even though there was no "agreement" between the airlines.
