20% off Etihad (starting from London or Bangkok - perhaps from other places as well)

Recommended Posts

Just booked another business class on the A380 with Etihad for £1524 (LHR-BKK) after discount and when in LOS the other week I saw the same adverts on Facebook for 20% off but starting from Bangkok.

Might be good for economy as well ?

Strange, that last link (Facebook) gets closed down in my browser.

Just tried for BKK-MAN (May) and coming up with 102,000 baht, I would like cheaper.

I briefly looked at Etihad on that A380 LHR-BKK route earlier, as direct Edinburgh flights don't do 1st; The fact that they are using Jet Airways 777s on the Bangkok legs immediately put me off. I haven't actually flown with Jet, but online reports were not favourable. I suppose the use of those aircraft might be the reason for the offer.

Jacko, a friend just in the process of booking (reverse of your flights) is finding Turkish the best price (not recommended because of Istanbul - Manchester seating), but KLM and China Airlines were both within about £50. Swiss are sometimes worth investigating.

They don't use Jet on all 777 options and the ones they do are clearly stated. I flew back just over a week ago and it was a regular Etihad 777.

I would avoid the Jet ones to be honest but intrinsically, the Jet equipment on 777 is not too shabby.

I found that to generate the links in my Facebook when in LOS I simply went to the Etihad Thailand site and looked for a flight starting in Bangkok and then opened Facebook which, when clicked through, auto populated the previous dates into the Etihad flight chooser screen as opposed to their front page "to" and "from" entry boxes etc.

Right now the link is back to e1s1 as per below:

Yes Turkish and Finnish are coming up as cheaper Biz options, but I am a pernickety customer! Turkish have good timings but I have a worry over the Istanbul transfer and via Helsinki the timings to UK aren't good. KLM and China, yes, but back on that crappy little flight from Amsterdam to Manchester! Swiss.... they used to pop up some time ago and I was worried they were going bankrupt, don't seem to pop up now. In the past one of my 3 favourites always came up with some super saver offer for a spring flight, Etihad, Qatar or Emirates.... would be very happy to be on the Qatar A380 again.

Sorry mate, I know you are trying to be helpful but this is all flying over my head. I do get the Biz Saver fares but as said the best is 102,000 baht. I have never used Facebook in association with booking flights.

I was eyeing up Finnair to try the new A350 to Bangkok but the long stopovers in Helsinki was putting me off.

The connection I looked at was only 45 minutes ex-BKK, and 2.5 hrs the other way, seems good.

Just not keen on early morning departures from Thailand and arriving late afternoon in time for UK rush hour!

I think another option had me stuck in Helsinki for 15 hours and then on a FlyBe (Fly-maybe) flight to Manchester, no way!

Is this promotion any use to you guys, I noticed it on the Bangkok post website. I haven't followed it up on Emirates website so not sure if it's accurate or not, thankfully my travelling days are over.

A quick check by me for a Biz Class fare to Manchester is 92,300 THB, Business Special ticket offering low miles and no upgrade, changes 6000 baht..

That is down about 10,000 baht from last time I priced it....so not 20%. Emirates offer plenty of options of timings as they have a lot of daily flights. I guess the A380 Manchester legs will be on the new configuration without 1st and densely packed economy.

My April flights with Emirates the MAN-DXB and DXB-MAN legs (EK18 and EK17) are down as being 3 class version 2 A388, EK19 and EK20 was the one being changed to the 2 class version.

The DXB-BKK leg on EK376 is 2 class A380 but our return on EK385 is 3 class A380.

If you are in "cattle" for that EK376 flight; by all accounts, the upper deck window seats are well worth purloining! :nod

Sadly there is 3 of us travelling this time, so I've got seats on the lower deck, but in October when it's just the 2 of us I'll be booking upstairs.

I just got an offer via email from Qatar Airways which works out at 88,130 baht, BKK-MAN Biz Class. (for May), have to book it before 17 Jan though.... I hate being pushed like that. The slightly cheaper price wrt Emirates is offset by the fact that Emirates supply limos at the Manchester end. (I am too far away at the BKK end to qualify). Although the Qatar A380 ex-BKK Biz Class Cabin is fantastic and there is a triple mileage deal, I was not impressed by the Emirates cabin, bus like layout and seats closer together.

Etihad also sent me an email and are making many special offers, their Biz Class one does not suit me at 175,600, 2 for 1 offer, I don't need 2.

Not sure where you actually travel from Jacko, but Qatar has the 787 "dreamliner" flying out of Birmingham now, as well as Edinburgh. The biz accomodation is much better on them (same as their A380s) than the Airbusses they use on the Manchester route.

Manchester. I agree the little Airbus they use to and from Manchester is rubbish, also they use the old terminal in Manchester and the lounge is rubbish there too.

I am hanging on for slightly cheaper, I feel there is over capacity on the route and more spring deals will come.

I get the feeling that there is a bit of "cartelling" going on with the 3 main airlines. Although dealing with 1st, I was waiting for ages for Emirates to drop their fare as in previous years. It didn't happen, and still hasn't, but I did get the normal reduced price by going through an agency rather than directly through Emirates. I don't have so many options for my flights emanating from Dubai though. We need one of them to "break away" and come out with a good "offer", the others would then have to start thinking.

I kinda think you are right, the 3 Mid-East Carriers prices do seem to be all close together when in the past one has always pipped the others. Last year I jumped on a Qatar special offer of Biz for 63,420 (the fare portion was only 31870). That was them trying to fill their planes up as many passengers had avoided them during the airport construction. (I guess).

Later Edit:.

I see Qatar and Emirates are popping up at the top in Skyscanner now.

Priced at around 88-89,000 Baht pushing Finnair down the list. Nearly time to book.

I don't know about Emirates limos but I get 4 from Etihad and the surcharge to Pattaya due to excess distance is Bt2000. It was a nice merc coming from Bangkok the other week.

Not much to distinguish between the Limos at the Manchester end (between Emirates or Etihad), had Mercs there. I only pay 1200 baht for a vehicle from Bangkok so a 2000 baht surcharge would seem a waste. I usually drive myself to Swampy.

Some lower prices are popping up on Qatar and to a lesser extent Emirates again from this end.... they had all but vanished with Emirates looking for 102,000 last week, now 94k. It may well be that I end up paying 85-90k as not seeing much better. Don't like the Finnair timings.

Skyscanner is throwing a few options at me, seems like Etihad have some new Biz Class fare that is cheaper, but does not include the limo service. Not a big deal for me as I only ever used it at the Manchester end anyhow. They are coming in at about 87,500 baht. Even cheaper, KLM are coming in at about 80.5k. Don't like landing in UK late evening as likely I would need a hotel at the airport, then get a train in the morning.

I know you need the reverse flights Jacko, but Emirates have just sent me a mailshot with a greatly reduced 1st Class offer of 3,200 Pounds, via their website. Biz fare much same as normal though, unfortunately.
