I got this E-mail from EVA today, looks like the will be getting some new planes.

WHAT'S NEW

**EVA adds 1st AIRBUS

EVA Air is introducing new Airbus A330-200 aircraft with a wider cabin and unmatched inflight comforts. A record-breaking seat pitch among A330 aircraft, multi-functional interactive entertainment system, an innovative enhanced-cabin design and creative new food and beverage services are just some of the things in store for EVA Air¡¦s customers.

With my luck everyone already knows about the planes and I found out today.  :)

eltib,

What's the bet then, mate?

They have 15 Boeing 777 (200LR and 300ER) on order for you guys from the far side of the Pacific.  It will be a few years before the 747 fleet needs replacing.

Unless you stop off in Japan, HK or the PI en-route you are unlikely to use the Airbus.

What are the best seats  to book in Evergreen Deluxe. Flying out from UK in November with them.

Ric

Ric,

I like seat #D which is the first seat in the middle.  Or I like an Aisle seat, I tend to get up and walk around alot and I hate climing over people.  I call EVA ahead of time to reserve my aisle seat.

good luck

eltib,

Has EVA formally cancelled the orders for the Boeing 777s?  They denied it a couple of months ago - probably trying to get a bit of leverage to renegotiate the finance by making it known they were open to offers from Airbus.

Don't know about a Airbus-only Thai fleet.  They have just purchased 9 x 747s (7 from UA (I hope they didn't come with the crew!) and 2 new).  As you know, with Thai, things have a habit of being cancelled when some new guy along the line wants his cut of the deal.

Regards,

Tom

Actually Tom, I did a search on it, and found out EVA didn't cancel their order. Read here.

the A330 that eva has will be nice on the medium haul runs throughout asia but it really doesnt have the range for the long haul pacific runs. The 777-200LR will definatly work on any run they want. It will be very efficent and comfortable for the passengers, and it can easily go from virtualy any city in the US direct to LOS. I am not sure that is their plan but dam it sure would be nice to get on one plane and just arive in BKK like 16 hours later. Oh well just a matter of time I hope

Fairly sure they would not be allowed to fly direct from States to Bangkok, as their hub "Taiwan" is between the two.

Thai Air is looking at flying a non stop route over the pole from Bangkok to New York. They will need to add long range 747's or 777's to the fleet but it is in the works. Flying over the pole really saves time. I like the CAL fight Newark to Hong Kong which is a over the pole flight and about five hours less total time to Bangkok than the non polar route.

I think direct flights from continental US to BKK are sure to be limited to Thai and US carriers ....... not sure if that is a particularly good thing or not, or would those guys choose to go through the existing HK, Narita, Taipei hubs or KL/SIN which would also open up to direct flights.

Thai probably won't be buying -400's from UA after all.Better deals to be had elsewhere.

John

John,

Thai Air is buying the UAL 747s. There is also a new 747 going through the factory right now for them.
