Are Eva and CP the only airlines that arrive in BKK in the daytime?  Getting into BKK at midnight is a bummer.  Traveling from LAX or SFO.  Not too crazy about Eva's 12 hour layover.  Hope that is an exception rather than the rule.  SB

Eva leaves LAX and San francisco around 1am (100) and gets into Taiwan at 5am (500) the following morning.  It leaves for Bangkok at 8am (800).  That is what I book most of the time, it's convenient with only a three hour layover and I get into Bangkok at 11am (1100).

There is one flight that leaves LAX (san fran not sure of) in the afternoon and make the connection in Taiwan and still have time to get a late night flight into Bangkok but it is only like once or twice a week.  I took that flight once, I got into Bangkok around 1am.  The 1am flights out of LAX and San Fran are the most convenient.

Also with Eva they have a 12:30 pm flight and 5:30 pm (1750) out of Bangkok which i like also.

Here is Evas telephone # 1-800-695-1188.  I'm flying in early September Eva thru LAX and arrive into Bangkok at 11am (1100), when I return I leave Bangkok at 5:30 pm (1730) and go thru San francisco (LAX flight has too long of a layover in Taiwan).

good luck

SB,

Last time I went to Thailand I flew CP, it was by far the best airline I have flown to Thailand. The flight times are good as well, and you get AA miles if you are a member as I am here in the states.

Saigon,

Singapore Air also has a 11.30PM departure from LAX that gets into Bangkok (with a decent layover time) early afternoon, and Singapore Air is generally in the same price range and level of customer reviews as Cathay Pacific, although such things are always a matter of personal tastes.

I agree that the HK airport is quite impressive.  Thailand is promoting their new airport which will be ready in 2 years to be just as nice or better.  One big benefit will be the reduction in travel time to Pattaya.

El Swami,

What did you do with El Tib.  ??? What could be even a bigger + is the reason they're building a new airport is to make it attractive for other airlines to make it a hub.  If that happens then their is a chance that for us on the west coast to get non-stop flights to BKK.  ;D

Cathay Pacific is by far a much better airline than Eva Air. The service is among the best in the world they are one of only two airlines that are rated 5 stars, the other being Singapore Air. They fly state of the art 777 which is the best plane in the air today. Also if you are flying from the US your stop with Cathay Pacific will be in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is only a couple of short hours from Bangkok so the overall time is shorter.
