After dropping a friend off at T2 the other day and after using the new Check-In system myself a few times, I have to say what a pleasure it is now.

I can remember the days of queing for hours for the Air Canada or whoever check in crews to arrive and start begrudgingly checking us peasants in.

so fast and easy and no more bloody queue's

Check in online first with passport details etc.

Walk in, poke Passport into little machine, 4 button presses, and your baggage tags arrive.

Walk through to Bag drop, pick up, boarding pass, then off ya go.

The other day I was trying to explain to 2 Thai girls furiously pushing their passports in and out (In and out ? snarf snarf !!) that if they hadnt checked in online their passports wouldnt be recognised by the machine and they would have to go to the check in desk.

I've used those machines and there wasn't any need to check in online first. The girls probably didn't put their passports in the machine properly, possibly because the on-screen instructions tell you to put them in the wrong way round. :frustrated1:

But I cant see how you could use the passport reader machine at Heathrow without giving either the booking agency your passport number or checking in online and completing the advance passenger information?

If you havent checked in online or given your passport details then how do you think the passport reader knows who you are??

It relates your passport detail to your booking.

There was nothing wrong with how the girls put their passports in as I tried it for them as well then asked if they had checked in online and they said no. They went to the check in desk and all was then fine.

FWIW I have never checked in online but as soon as I put my passport in the machine and then enter my Amadeus code, the boarding pass and luggage tags are printed.

Naturally - the bookingnumber links to all the info about the ticket you bought and the passport scanner can add the Missing details - then you are checking in at the same time.

I'm in the airline's membership scheme so they already told my details.

Thats right but at heathrow you dont have to enter a number. You just slide your passport in, it asks you a few questions about liquids and how many bags then prints your baggage labels.

If you havent given the advance passenger info like passport number etc when booking then other than putting in your Amadeus number the system hasnt a clue who you are.

Just about on topic!

Is it just me....but every time I fly from (crappy! I dont like it! Prefer T.3!) T.2...when walking to the plane, you always seem to be going up and down bleeding escalators?!

Takes an age to get ther,e it seems....then when coming back into T.2 it also seems to take forever to get to the Heathrow Express train?

Rant over!

Not a rant marley, true, I never ever thought that I would miss T3

Now if LHR had a watering hole at the B terminal shops then I might no be so peed off with LHR.
