A little off topic but worth remembering is not being talked into buying insurance from the travel agent with your flight, but from a insurance specialist. These are 50%-60% cheaper than the travel agents,one of  the best about in the UK is www.direct-travel.co.uk they quote£23.50 for 2 weeks in Thailand.The 12 month multi trip policy is very good also.

Got this E-mail address from one of the Daily rags' money pages.www.moneysupermarket.com It literally lists hundreds of insurance companies.

One that caught my eye was PRIMARY-MONEY SUPERMARKET EXCLUSIVE Tel 01244 665708.

Cost per annum £36.76 which includes medical & baggage.Primary are based in Altrincham,Cheshire.With this policy you can make as many trips as you like in 12 months as long as one stay doesn't exceed 31 days.

Not impressed with those insurance policies.

What are the excesses on those policies?

What if your trip is longer than a month?

 

My annual policy covers trips up to 90 days with no policy excess.

 

An excellent mid range annual policy is supplied by Willis First  Response on 0800 224422

60 days per trip with a £35 excess The cost  is around £54.

 

Good, efficient service when I had dealings with them. Recommended.

Excuse my ignorance but I did not know that these types of policies were available. Shit!!! I am about to do my fourth trip this year...will have cost me over $400 (Australian) or Baht9500 for f..king travel insurance. Thanks guys for bringing up this thread.  First thing Monday I will be on the phone telling my Travel Agent to go F..k himself.

Have to agree with the others about not buying your travel insurance from travel agents. It may be worth checking with your household insurance company to see whether they can give you a good deal on travel insurance.

 

I get mine from Bank of Scotland (they also provide my household insurance) for a bit over £40 per year. (As a shareholder, I qualify for a 10% discount but even without this it would still be only £45 or so).

 

If you don't have your household insurance with them the cost is as far as I can remember around the £60 or £70 mark.

It's worth pointing out with your recommendations, that the trip cannot exceed 31 dys for the prices quoted.

 

Also with the recommendation for the PRIMARY-MONEY SUPERMARKET EXCLUSIVE the price for Worldwide Annual cover is in fact £42.23 for 31 day durations and contains some whopping excesses, from £50 to £250! (Parts of the claims you have to pay yourself).

In fact, this policy DOES NOT include baggage, which is why it is called  EXCLUSIVE.

It is possible you checked the price for Europe only travel.

 

DO NOT BE FOOLED INTO THINKING THE CHEAPEST POLICY IS THE BEST VALUE.

 

Just wanted that to stand out. :-)

 

The policy at Link Travel(Willis First Response) that I have recommended is for up 60 day durations and is only £54 with a maximum of a £35 excess on certain claims. 0800 224422

 

A policy for a similar quality and duration of travel at Direct Travel  is around £95.

 

This goes for all the other recommendations on this thread.

 

You may find a cheaper policy, but the cover will be diminished in some way.

 

Check out the Sainsburys Annual Travel policy if you require an annual policy with a longer trip duration, 90 days per trip for £65. I think their excess is the same(£35) with an option to wipe out all excesses for a extra £10 or so.

I'm sure there are a lot of people here who are in LOS for more than 31 days. :-)

 

Please check the basic cover you are getting, keeping in mind the points I have mentioned.

The excesses, baggage and money inclusive(?) and longest trip duration.

It's your money, don't be afraid to ask questions.

My Royal Bank of Scotland "Royalties Gold" Current Account includes Travel Insurance worldwide FREE OF CHARGE.  Worth checking with your local branch for details.

I have made a claim for a pair of specs I lost in Dubai Airport 2 years ago and they paid up OK.

Always amazes me people skimp on holiday insurance - cheap can be dear.  Read small print very carefully.

 

Are you covered for all medical bills, air ambulance, what if you have an accident on a motorbike or scuba diving, maximum length of trip, trips per year etc etc.  All policies differ, read carefully.  Saving £10 now could cost you £1000s later or even your life.  I paid £99 for Trailfinders Insurance and it seems very good to me (unlimited number of 60 day max trips, covered for Scuba diving etc).  It will come in handy when I have my first heart attack or get run over on Second Rd!!!!!

 

Watch the free ones with credit cards very carefully - they tend to be limited.  I've heard very sad stories about people who relied on these.

 

BTW1 many policies exclude medical treatment of motorbike injuries

 

BTW2 around 2 people per day die on roads in Pattaya and many are injured

Indeed many policies will not cover you if you have hired a motorcycle over 50cc.

 

Paul, take a closer look at the two policies I have recommended when the time comes for renewal.

 

For only £54 the Link Travel policy sounds quite similar to the Trailfinders policy at £99, with the Sainsbury policy good for longer trips.

Does anyone know of an insurance scheme for a couple of very valuable items, one way only in suitcases?  (Too big for hand luggage)

Our annual cover will not run to this. Travelling next week to Pattaya.
