Where are you getting your cheese from Expats?

Recommended Posts

Popped into Fever in the Bong Koch area yesterday to see no cheese available. What's going on? Cheese being one of those special treats from my past life. I usually go for English ones... but no, no crumby Lancashire, Red Leicester or mature cheddar, fine Fettle Yorkshire, Cheshire Blue etc etc.

Is Thailand stopping us enjoying this import? Will a Welsh rarebit become even rarer?

I suspect the reason for no cheese dates back to September when the authorities started clamping down on places that would sell food products that were packaged in non-FDA approved facilities. Siamburi’s had to temporarily close for that reason. The cheese they were selling was bought in bulk and then repackaged into smaller packages for sale, thus the reason the Thai FDA got involved.

I suspect you are correct. I asked the girl in Fever, but she gave me some nonsense answer, as the adage goes, even if they don't know, they will tell you anyhow.

I don't want to go so far out as Siambury's, nor those Pratumnak Expat shops, but looking on Google Maps, Britshop looks okay for a little ride out on the bike, anybody know that place?

Otherwise, can I still get some cheese at Foodland, a short stroll from my Big-CX shop?  They were always limited to mainly Gouda and Edam, neither particularly exciting, but will have to do!

Friendship used to have some good Aussie made cheeses, including a nice extra mature cheddar. No doubt more expensive than the expat shops but a nice treat.

Appreciate the feedback but I really hate the Tai area....

I found a fair selection in Tops, Central Festival, a bit pricey though.
