Woody,

Hi ....... used the service yesterday and it seemed to work OK.

Run a search in Google and there is a lot of info on the system.  I have taken one guy's advice and added the Telediscount access number to my best friends list to get a bit more discount. (Cheap Charlie that I am!)  ;)

Regards,

Tom

Tom,

Was that to a mobile or a fixed line? I tried again to two mobiles and couldn't get through. Will try phoning a fixed line in Thailand tomorrow.

Woody,

I tried three mobile numbers.  Of these, two were based in Pattaya.  One connected and the other gave me a message in Thai that didn't sound like "Hello, hansum man!"  The third number was based in Phetchabun and connected.  The connections I got were every bit as clear as my landline although the time lapse did appear to be more pronounced.

I have sorted it out now and have successfully connected to a mobile and a landline in Thailand.

Full marks to Trev who has probably saved me 15 quid so far with this tip.

I wonder how long this will last at 5p a minute (to a mobile as well!) seems to good to be true! I have just noticed their web site is up again and they are showing the new price of 5p a minute for Thailand now.

http://www.telediscount.co.uk/

I checked out the 08440 number on the BT pricelist and it is indeed 5p a minute.

Good idea Tom to put the number in as the best friend number on BT and get a further 20% discount which makes it 4p a minute!!!! :) Are you sure BT will give a discount on this number?

When I tried to call a Pattaya mobile via telediscount last night it would not connect me saying the phone was not responding but a direct BT call got through.

Alpha are advertising on TV and quoted me 30p on the phone but their website says 19p.  I was obviously calling an Indian call centre but the guy told me he was in UK - yeah right (accent, delays).  You have to prepay £15 on a debit card with this firm.

A UK company called QXL I think offers lower rates - around 15p.  And I believe onetel offers about 35p.  Any recommendations?  HELP.  I need to know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just need a cheap service to Pattaya mobile with no prepayments.  Telediscount sounded great but it doesn't work for me.  I was on the phone for quite a while to their access numbers last night and I bet I get charged for that even though I didn't get through.

The Alpha price to Thai mobiles is 30p, the cheaper price is to landlines.

Though, with Telediscount's 5p why bother?

Strange that it doesn't work for you. I got some good use out of it before the reverted to the 20p per minute number.

That about as good as it gets for non prepay systems,(20p to Thai mobiles)

Most of the TSPs foul up sometimes. That's why u pay BT the big bucks.

Try this number instead;

Thailand-mobile

20p per min charged to your BT bill

090525  21121

Here's a link to BT's latest prices for dialling these special numbers,  if you want to be sure;

Chok dee :-)
