Flipper vs. Flipper vs. Eastinny

Recommended Posts

Ok, assuming I can not stay at Sandy Spring because of the noise, I will be there in July, which is best, which is worst: Flipper Lodge, Flipper House, or Eastinny Place. I am sorta leaning towards flipper house. I have stayed at Flipper lodge b4 and it was ok.

Thanks to all-

I've only stayed at the Eastiny Place and Flipper House (new wing) of the three and prefer the Eastiny of the two. However my hotel of choice is Mike's Beach Resort on Soi 4.

I've stayed at all three, good hotels, flip a coin. This time around I'm staying at the Pig & Whistle on soi 7. IMHO a better buy. Cheaper with in room safe.

All 3 are very close. Hard choice. When all else fails, go with the best deal which will probably be the Flipper house on Soi 7.

If you are trying to make reservations from out of town, the two Flippers usually respond much better than the Eastiny but I kind of like the location of the Eastiny and the rooms are very nice for the coin.

Cheers

Hello JB,

My last trip was May/June and I stayed at Mike's Orchid (Near Bella Vista) The rooms are a good size with 1-single bed and 1-double bed. All rooms are the same in terms of lay out. They are currently adding on to the Hotel so make sure that you request a room facing Beach Rd.

Currently the daily rate is 800b for Mike's Orchid and for Mike's Resort it is 1200b.

Mike's Orchid does not have a pool at this time so if you want to swim you will need to walk on down to Mike's Resort.

If money is not an issue here, I would suggest checking out Bella Villa next to Mike's Orchid. Looks very nice from the outside and is a new addition to Soi-4.

I believe that they are asking $1000b a day.

Hub,

Yes they do have suites, I believe 4 on the 9th floor and 2 on the 8th. I've never been inside so I don't know what they look like, but they appear to be large. I stay in the standard and it is about 15' x 30'. On the 8th when you get off the elevator there are 8 standard room on the right and 2 suites on the left so I would assume that those suites are 4 times larger. The furnishings of my room is nothing fancy, as an indication the telephones in my room 3 times were the old fashion rotary type.

The addition at Mikes Orchid is progressing well. I left there 4 days ago and they have the basement, 1st, and 2nd floors foundation up. I'll be back again mid August thru mid Sept and will give you an update on the progress for your Nov trip.

BobSJ,

I've stayed at Mike's Beach on my last 4 trips and I've always paid 600 a night and that included mid Nov thru mid Dec. I always stay at least 2 weeks so maybe they are giving me a break on the rate, also they always give me an upper floor facing north so I have a nice view of the bay.

Anyone know if the Flippers are doing low-season deals this year ?. Last August I stayed 14 nights for the price of 10.

Yes, along with the Sunshine. I was at the Flipper House about a month ago in the new wing and it was stay 7 and pay for 5. Cost me 4414 baht.

JayBee,

I also have stayed at both the Flippers and the Eastiny Inn. About 2 years ago I tried to make reservations for Christmas at one of the Flippers and they were both booked, so I tried the Eastiny Inn and have been staying there ever since. I think both the Flippers are fine for the price and I would favor the Flipper Lodge because of the Ocean View rooms. After giving the Eastiny a try I feel the rooms are a little nicer and brighter and now stay there most of the time. I also like the staff at the Eastiny a little better, with the restaurants at the Flippers better.

I have just cancelled my Sandy Spring reservation for July 31st because of the construction and made new reservations at the Eastiny Inn for that week. I found both the Eastiny and Flipper takes about 2 days to answer emails for reservations and didn't have any problems with reservations made at either hotel group when arriving.

Hi Jaybee

I am another cancellation from the Sandy Springs.

I stayed at the Eastiny Place in March this year and found it excellent. Clean, quiet and a nice pool.

Having said that I am going to try the Flipper in Soi 7 when I arrive in 3 weeks. I like trying different hotels.

Cheers

Wow! Thanks for all the replies folks. So to sum everything up it seems like the rooms at the Eastinny are a little nicer, but with the flipper specials those might be a bit cheaper. Some like the house and others the lodge because of the sea views at the lodge.

I really like the in-room massage option they have at the flipper. Any recommendations on rooms at any of the places? I looked at the flipper web site and they have 2 diff. wings plus deluxe rooms and suites. Reccomendations?

Again thanks for all the replies, I was a little worried I was gonna get flamed for starting this topic.

I will be down there with some friends starting about July 7th if anyone wants to meet for a beer.

I've also stayed at all three. My favorite is a FLIPPER LODGE delux room.

Stayed a night at the Flipper House last trip. I reserved a delux room in the new wing and the room I got was in pretty bad shape. I thought they made a mistake and booked me in the old wing.....turns out it was the new wing.

Stayed at both Eastiny hotels.....both decent but rooms a little more wear and tear than the lodge.

Flipper Lodge.....great delux rooms, great off-season deals, and a great staff.

I also like the in room massage at the Flipper Lodge. Ask for URAI, 300 for the massage and 500 for full service. I just put the money out were she can see it. She has never asked for more.

Emil,

I must be losing my touch - What is your secret!! - I plan on going back again in Sept or Oct.

Thanks for the Info on Mike's Orchid - What did you think of the Girls working the front Desk!!

Bob,

Regarding the girls at the front desk, if your talking Mike's Orchid I wouldn't know because I've never been inside. The girls at the front desk of Mike's Beach are average in the looks but very friendly and joke around with me. Probably because I've stayed there 4 times this past year and know me.

I don't know if I did anything special to get that rate except that as I've said before the length of stay and that I'm there 4 times a year. The first time I stayed was Sep 03 and I just walked up and asked them how much for a room and when they gave me a quote (forgot what it was now) I them asked how much if I stay for 3 weeks. Do this around noon time when it isn't busy and the manager is around to give a price break for a longer stay. During the first stay in which I was very happy with the place I always talked and joked around with the front desk, especially the manager. My 2nd stay was for a month during Nov-Dec and I sent them an email asking if they would give me the same rate or better since I was staying for a month and the manager replied with the same rate. The next 2 times I walked up, as I like to spend the beginning of my trip down by Walking St to butterfly before I move up to Mike's to be with Thai girlfriend, and asked if they had a room available for 600 again and they said yes.

If you do decide to stay there ask for an upper room facing north, if you get one facing south you could be looking at that large hotel that has been sitting there unfinished. Again as I mentioned before the furnishings are very basic, but the room is very large and I've never had a problem with critters or a bad smell.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am considering the flipperhouse, but can't find any pics of the rooms. Can anyone help me with what the rooms are like? Maid service? Safes? Pool? size? etc....

travlling,

I stayed there this past May in the new wing and thought the room was very good for what I paid (630). Maid service every day and safes are behind the front desk. The pool is located on the top of the hotel and is average in size. I thought my room was small as I hit my leg on the bedframe a few times. Check out the hotel reviews, there's some photos and a website.

Emil,

Thanks for the info. Do you know if a deluxe room would be better and do they have rooms with a view of the bay?

Thanks again,

travlling,

I really can't say because that was my first time staying there. After 1 week I moved up to Soi 4 and stayed at my regular hotel, Mike's Beach, which had a much larger room and view of the bay.

Would you say that Mikes is a better deal? I see that it gets good reviews.

I'm probably the wrong person to ask, as I'm the one who did the reviews. If you can get a rate near what I paid, I would say yes. Also the rooms with a view are the ones on the upper floors and facing Soi 4.

PenName,

Here you go and make sure its Mike's Beach Resort and not Mike's Orchard down the Soi where construction is still taking place. Both owned by Mikes Mall group.

Phone: 66 38 420625-6

Fax: 66 38 423951

Email: mikebeachresort@hotmail.com

If that email doesn't work let me know as I have another one.

The one thing that might turn some off on this hotel is its funky furnishings. Other than that, good location, quiet, good size pool for laps and friendly staff.

I just tried to add this contact info into the reviews area without any success, any suggestions.

Emil:

Thanks a ton. I sent off an e-mail to the address you provided to see what their availabilty might be for my October - November trip. Funky furnishings don't deter me in the least as I tend to have no interest in "cookie-cutter" rooms that are all furnished and designed identically.

I must confess that I really didn't know much about Mike's until your comments and posted reviews, but I do like the location (even though there was nothing so wrong with operating out of Soi 8 on my last trip), and I'm always up for a new gem.

Now if I can just make it to 25 October and wheels up without Pattaya fever consuming me then everything might just be all right.

Again, thanks.

P.
