Well I actually live in Thailand and am heading outwards. Not the same things to be drooling for...... My working life involved a lot of flying and airports.... to endure it retired, I want it to be as tolerable as possible.

Well my next flight on a 777 I believe it is a 2-4-2 Biz layout, albeit staggered . So it is getting worse! Guess which carrier from BKK! I can't afford Emirates!

Well one of my last 777 flights the Biz seats were side by side which isn't private at all, I think that was an Emirates from Manchester. Nice to change to an A380 at Dubai.

Is it so bad? I have used the Qatar 787 once from Manchester, up front, and I found it an OK flight. Better than the old 777s. That is quite a saving just by going up to Edinburgh.

Which one? The one off Soi 7 has gone downhill, but the one in Soi 25/ Chayaphum seems well patronized.

I am expecting the £ to roll back off a little this morning after a slight recovery. David Davis, previously the Brexit Secretary, has resigned, protesting the direction of May's methods, despite having signed off on them recently.. Resignation letter. Steve Baker also resigned.

I always check-in and arrive with the majority as you refer to them, it always seems like quite a walk to immigration on arrival whichever immigration I use, but normally it is the middle Priority area, I am exhausted by the time I make it there, another 150m, phew! Getting on a bit you know. The other area/end was used mostly by Thai Airways. Perhaps that was the case years ago and is no longer?? Never seem to come from the Domestic end, perhaps because Thai Airways are expensive for me?

No such luck for me, long haul in a 777 is as good as I can do. Would have loved to have been on an Emirates A380, but just a little too rich for me!

Sorry to say my last trip there were long queues leaving Thailand at Swampy, and that was the Priority/ Premium lane, which they had opened up to people with kids. Whole departure hall was heaving with people. Getting there early doesn't alleviate the queues at immigration and security, just makes sure they don't make you late for the gate. If you arrive too early aren't you just waiting for the check-in to open? I think The Fiend's point is that perhaps UTP will be like Chiangmai and less crowded. Just a bit more choice... a pity Qatar aren't offering non-stop UTP to Doha on a nice new 787 as originally touted.

I get the idea the sky is the limit. I once decided my GF needed a a makeover in a shopping mall salon and boy that was a mistake. I wandered about to kill time and after a couple of hours they still hadn't finished. The cut and style cost me abot 3000 baht but was more of a frustration due to the time they took. Now that was a decade plus ago and in a city where falangs are a novelty... I gues they knew a falang was paying!

Well for me it is easier to get to, but you are right, not a lot in it. I can take the nearby Hwy 36 and then 331, which should be easy out of peak travel times. Of course also no 110x2 baht toll. If I had to take Sukhumvit all the way I wouldn't even consider it! I also had a vain hope it would be a quieter relaxed airport at UTP, Swampy is so busy and crowded these days. My first attraction was the cheaper ticket, but the timings and only 3 day operations are a negative.

Anybody have any experience of these guys.. ETicket? Search engine seems to work well, and some good fares coming up... I nearly booked to UK the other day with Turkish, a too good to be true Biz Class fare. In the end I got windy over using their payment portal. Some searches come up with 'Available Fare but No Seat'...something about being flexible on travel dates. They came in with a search on Skyscanner Thailand

Just looking at Qatar via UTP as an option in August. They are coming in a bit cheaper than both Emirates and Etihad. But not keen on the early morning departure from UTP, nor evening arrival in Manchester, and again an early, rush hour departure from Manchester. Three flights a week now and the leg to UTP has the Rangoon stop over and is a small A319.

I can't even watch this stuff, I fear heart issues! Hope someone recorded it for the poor kids in the cave!
