The Last Best Sunday.

My thoughts are Brazil too. The home advantage in a Country that is absolutely football mad. I was in a rural poor town there and when there was a game on, the only bar with a viewable TV used to cause a street blockage.

That hasn't happened to me for donkey's years. Mind you the last time was on a flight via the USA. I get exhausted with all the walking and security at transit so am disinclined to carry much other than the backpack with laptop.

I just checked a BHP bill from last month... the charge for the doctor was 1000 baht. My total was 2300, the rest due to prescribed meds and the usual blood pressure/temperature obligatory precheck. I have more confidence in a medical check/test eg X-Ray, than spending the money on a concoction of 5 meds. Couldn't even determine what they all were as they came in little baggies........

You never know. My TGF found a ENT doctor who has a clinic in Naklua. Sure, his charges were less at 300 baht for the consultancy, but the quack prescribed 5 different medications and gave her an injection too. Total cost, 2000 baht. I think she might have got out of the BHP for about that, she is just too scared to go there due to their overcharging reputation.

In the 'old days' I was less discerning, and the absence of a joiner fee was a major factor.

Not much to do at Bahrain unless you can get into one of the lounges. There are sleeping Indians all over the place.

Take a look in HomePro in the Big C Extra Mall. Although I thought they just used water rather than ice. Seem to range from 5000 to 9000 baht. They won't work very well in high humidity I expect.

How much fell back onto the plate using that approach? I eat a big burger like a girl, it has to remain on the plate and I use a knife and fork!

Haven't seen them here. I could use one in the village bungalow. There are a lot of those stand alone units being offered that you have to put water into! They appear attractive as they are demonstrated inside a well air-conditioned showroom where people can hold their hands in front and feel the cooling effect of the highly humid draught.

Why would you invite a girl you have never met to join you in Australia? If you must, take a holiday yourself and meet her in the UK.

Eighteen hours transit time outward, and twelve on the return leg is pretty bad though! I would pay the extra £80 and get the Qatar flight.

You can pay around 25,000 baht p.a. for a policy which is not fully comprehensive, to 70,000 baht plus for more comprehensive ones. (BUPA for example offer quite a range). Medical costs here can be eye-watering and quite mercenary for those of us accustomed to 'National Health' There is always the option of 'self insuring'..... rather than spend the money on a policy with a 1,000,000 baht cap, have that amount available in the bank.

I see you are only 47 although of course I am unsure of your state of health... but do you have any form of medical cover which would include Thailand? A sudden incident can put a dent in plans........
