  1. I think it is an embellished Benny Hill sketch.
  2. Why not.... I have used a few and found them all much of a sameness, friends seem to swear by their own, all different. I use a small one that runs between Klang and Soi 7. Seems okay although there is always a sense of trying to make as much money as she can.
  3. I couldn't really specify a place. Never having spent any appreciable length of time elsewhere. Well perhaps Korat, Nan, Tak, Phuket, and her village in rural Korat....bugger all there. When I first retired, we went on a few extensive tours of Thailand, with a mind to finding a place I wanted to settle. Nearly a decade later, perhaps some of the places I did not select would perhaps be more worthy now. But Pattaya ticks a lot of boxes, and I think I made a good choice back then.
  4. It isn't bad actually.....has it's moments. Sophon gives me an opportunity to catch many films.
  5. Surviving Christmas.
  6. Years ago, when I was based in the USA , we did a lot of Business trips to China, usually through Hong Kong. We had to travel as a group, and since all the other guys were from the USA we had to fly United for their 'miles'. I told them they had rocks in their heads as the United cabin staff were all dragons who begrudged serving any man, especially with a few drinks. I kept wailing we could have used Cathay Pacific. Oh well, we always slipped notes to the hotel transport in HK on the way back and got a free upgrade to 1st where they were better! Emirates have a suite 'door' in 1st for privacy.......you need to try 1st on a 380! Hope the 787 flight doesn't have to turn back!
  7. How about 'Is'..... Bill Clinton explained that one to me! But in the USA they park on driveways and drive on parkways. You wind something up to stop it, except a watch. I take it you already know Of tough and bough and cough and dough? Others may stumble but not you On hiccough, thorough, slough and through. Well done! And now you wish perhaps, To learn of less familiar traps? Beware of heard, a dreadful word That looks like beard and sounds like bird. And dead, is said like bed, not bead - for goodness' sake don't call it 'deed'! Watch out for meat and great and threat (they rhyme with suite and straight and debt). A moth is not a moth in mother, Nor both in bother, or broth in brother, And here is not a match for there, Nor dear and fear for bear and pear, And then there's doze and rose and lose - Just look them up - and goose and choose, And cork and work and card and ward And font and front and word and sword, And do and go and thwart and cart - Come, I've hardly made a start! A dreadful language? Man alive! I learned to speak it when I was five! And yet to write it, the more I sigh, I'll not learn how 'til the day I die.
  8. Little Miss Sunshine.
  9. You have to remember, the Scots have many years of experience of not supporting England during the World Cup. Developed from many years more of not supporting Scotland.
  10. Yes, and it might well be more than 500 baht now too! I think it went up to 700 when the tax became incorporated.
  11. Shit looks like rain again

  12. Strangely enough, when I was booking my Emirates ticket, I plugged in 1st one way and Biz coming back, and they 'Free Upgraded' the return leg to 1st (Fully booked in Biz they said), meaning only £300 more for 1st over Biz Class price at the time. Also a no brainer for me.
  13. Glad to hear you guys got a mileage deal on your 1st Class trips. I actually went to the Thai site and priced a First ticket to Amsterdam, as close as they go to Manchester. Not as much as I expected but it was 50% more than my Emirates 1st Ticket Ex Manchester. And that I did pay myself, perhaps a bucket list item!!!!!!
  14. And rushing in buying a condo can be a waste of money too. Imagine buying a condo for 3mil that you could have rented for 20k/month.... If you are into your 60s is spending12 years money really a sound idea, throwing away the freedom to come and go and perhaps locking yourself into a place you come to dislike. The place may be fine, but neighbours can spoil it. Is a condo for you, living in a little box up in the air with 5000 others waiting to get into the elevator? Perhaps you would prefer to be in a house, or in the countryside? There are annual charges associated with owning a condo not being considered here. Renting can be done for a reasonable price here, condo prices are inflated.
  15. Billy Bob Thornton.
  16. That was my thought..... now you are in the hands of Thai bureaucracy! I often wonder if residents too will have a more difficult time with their visas and extensions. (Or more expensive)
  17. I wonder about a Hybrid here, petrol isn't so expensive so why pursue that option?
  18. Is it ever going to stop raining?

  19. I shall return a snobby snort down my nose while peering through the curtains at the slave galley.
  20. While I haven't used them in Economy I did find them quite good in Biz Class. I go for price, so it is normally between Emirates,Etihad and Qatar for me. Qatar do not offer the free limos to and from the airport. Also being bused to and from the aircraft is very tedious...takes ages and is frustrating. But on board, pretty good.
  21. Depends how they wake you up................ Actually I think they ask you if you want to be woken for breakfast. Did you get a nice 'puff pack'..Emirates gave me a nice one with razor, foam, anti-sweat, perfumes and creams in a nice zip up case.
  22. Darn...my Emirates First didn't treat me so well! Had to bloody walk to the lounge and the gate. That looked very very VIP.
  23. No harm done then,I was worried in case they thought you British.
