  1. I missed it last year, but the year before, heavens the place was packed out!
  2. It is requiring more effort these days, I believe for a particular bank people are saying they get a letter from Rayong or Bangkok. Let us say situation has been difficult because of bank behaviour. Maybe it will settle. I leave my 800k on Fixed deposit and hope that will still be okay!
  3. I was shopping for the larger 200g can yesterday, three places all out of stock for some reason. Big-CX wanting nearly 200 for a little half can I would label for travel use. Meal out for 2 last night, a steamed fish (just killed), asparagus with shrimp and fried rice, a large bottle of Heiny, 900 baht. I find I eat small meals nowadays and get bloated easily, AC set to 25 degC would be extravagant for me, usually set to 27 DegC. In fact I don't feel good when in overly cooled places. Fuel a bargain here. Need to get out of the habit of UK brands of chocolate biscuits as a mid morning snack with coffee! Never go to Starbucks, a rip off! Internet and TV for her is 850 pcm. My phone I pay 500 a month about. Someone comes to do my pool cos I'm lazy, 2250 pcm. Gardener ever 4 weeks 1600. If you can bring over medical cover for you and wife that works, you got it made, I live in fear of health issues. There's a hospital in town would bleed you dry and charge you to get the corpse back.
  4. Well my electric bill usually comes in at 2900-3200 a month or so, More in hot season, but usage likely varies higher for you, newly arrived you would use more AC. Water cheap at 200-300 pm. My Mrs cooks at home a bit, buying from a nearby wet market, each meal around 300 baht for ingredients. Some things with a high price can be surprising, shaving gel always amazes me at over 200 a can. I actually had many tools I brought here, so didn't buy many screwdrivers..but cheap as chips at Mr DIY but of low quality... certainly not as good as usually used in USA.
  5. The Thomas Crown Affair.
  6. Get Shorty.
  7. Pat Morita
  8. Quentin Tarrantino
  9. Willem Dafoe
  10. John Candy.
  11. Tom Hanks
  12. There are 2 apps called Bolt and Grab cover taxis..... Yes a scooter can be rented cheap, you should have a home licence backed up with an IDP for the chance of a police stop. Park it in a safe place and take the keys with you. Roads are dangerous here.
  13. Any Given Sunday
  14. Zsa Zsa Gabor.
  15. Countdown.
  16. Bill Murray.
  17. Central Pattaya Rd? Not Foodland maybe? I buy Edam and Gouda there, but limited choice otherwise. The selection in Big-CX is much better nowadays but far from cheap. They sell some rather puny pieces!
  18. I recall one hotel that had an isolated floor where tarts lived, and you could call a number and get one to come to your room. IIRC they were mostly from Eastern Europe back then. Again it is decades ago for me too.
  19. Well UK passport could enter no visa some years ago when I was in the area. I think I am out of date wrt the airport too, in the past I would have said definitely not the place to spend a long time, even in the Mahaber lounge! You got plenty of time to tour around, it is a small Island and not a lot to see... a shopping Mall and a souk market. If it is daytime it will be hot and humid. The mobility scooter might be an issue though. Sorry if of little help.
  20. Gary Oldman.
  21. Now you are into the realms of another prohibited beach activity, often in the news.
  22. I do recall over a decade ago we had a period when it was possible to get waved over by police on the airport approach road, my driver had already prepped me to say he was my brother in law! Doesn't Phuket airport already have a Bolt dedicated area?
  23. Not seen many examples of regs being enforced vigorously here.... if anything in the last few years policing has diminished, particularly on the roads.
  24. I bet they are!
  25. I believe both have validly from date of issue, the single entry for 3 months, the METV for 6 months. So a Single gives you 60 days with an option of +30 extension. (No better than Visa exempt). The METV, you can do a border bounce just before it expires, for a total of 6 months +60 days and an option to extend a further 30. A border run or trip(s) out sometime during the 6 months is also needed, since Permission of Stay is still 60 days per entry. Do not confuse visa validity with permission of stay, a common error. I know, clear as mud!
