  1. Not sure, but try the Export place upstairs in the Big C Central Festival (one on second Rd). Saw some shirts with strange names on them, and an Arsenal one, on the reduced to clear rack. And to the smart alec who suggested Oz, they are cheaper and likely more common in Bali!
  2. Yes, you have to take the risk of her kicking you out prior to you kicking the bucket. But it is a tragedy to go and leave a good wife behind without some support.
  3. Errr John Malkovich
  4. Well the new Gov are hardly up and running, and there sure are a lot of other countries doing OK with fantasy financial policies. Ducati have opened a plant in Thailand, Caterpillar will, Toyota are thinking of a new one. This is also a major food and agriculture production country. You need to take a drive through some of the industrial areas, even down the motorway, stuff going up everywhere. I am thinking betting against the baht, on current evidence, is misguided.
  5. Capote.
  6. Decided to come into this thread since the 'BUST' one has been hijacked by arguments over the constitution? The Swiss seem to be able to manmage their currency... although they are not too happy with the appreciation, must be hitting fancy watch sales!
  7. I live near the registration centre and the TGF does it in minutes, well normally when there aren't changes in the rules! It can be done in the BigC here on Saturday morning... the South one on Sukhumvit. I don't like involving 3rd parties. Just got an extension on the CTPL insurance today, has a fancy silver edge to it now to reduce fakes I suppose.
  8. My vehicle registration/tax is due so I went off to get it done at the registration place and came across a new issue that may affect other BMs. The compulsory (CTPL) insurance you have must have 10 months validity remaining to get the new registration. Not the case for me as all the insurance comes up in December, the registration early August. (I bought a used vehicle). I remember I deliberately threw away 4 months CTPL insurance so that I could renew it at thee same time as my '1st Class' compehensive policy. It seemed sensible to have both with the same company and same validity. A rule change at the registration place now forces me to buy CTPL again.
  9. Tom Cruise
  10. What twaddle. The last government did the wrecking, this one is struggling to recover from their complete and utter mismanagement of it. I would say the baht will strengthen further against £/$/Euro. Why will the baht follow the dollar?
  11. Jobeth Williams.
  12. Just posted this in the trip reports section. You on the Thai Visa mailing list too I guess.
  13. You had a separate room that you used to take a bath..... spoiled rotten? My ma used to take a big tin bath down and set it up on the kitchen floor, can't remember where the damned thing was when not in use, must have been in the back yard next to the coal shed, ex air-raid shelter. And I have come across 'hot tubs' in basements, which would be inside the main house area, that was USA too. Cold northern areas. (well cold in winter). Actually the tub for ma to do the washing in was a dolly tub. That isn't ma by the way, it's the TGF. She's different.
  14. Why pay someone else's mortgage. You could be talking 1/4 million baht/year rent that could be benefitting from an increase in value. A single guy or an unmarried couple, yeah, start off renting, but OP has been married 5 years. I am inclined to think prices will boom in Pattaya ($ terms)in the next decade (politics aside), condos have even been given a boost with Russians in the market.
  15. Arsenio Hall
  16. Have you considered first how you will go about the 'ownership'? It can all be in wife's name. Land in wife's name with a 30yr lease to you. All owned in a shell company name. Usufruct. This will impact on extras/taxes etc.
  17. Julia Roberts.
  18. Mrs Doubtfire
  19. Oh FFS BigD, you stay in the shitiest place in town and now are suggesting only the best will do regarding a motorcycle safety helmet. Of all the BMs I think you have the least to worry about when protecting your head!
  20. Only if your 'partner' is also a member of the Expats Club. It is not surprising you do not know this as the club has only recently moved there, and this privilege offered.
  21. Generally the CC issuers will not cover you if the card gets lost and/or misused after you had forwarded it via mail. IE they tell you not to do it. I would not trust regular Thai mail, but might go along with FedEx/DHL etc. I manage to avoid the issue a few ways. Get local credit cards. Use your USA ones near-never, I find I only need them to buy my airticket. I do the odd trip home and prior, I will check all my UK cards and see if any are due to expire, and request a new one to be issued. Fortunately I do have a mailing address in the UK where they can be received.
  22. Nope, I would call it a large bath or jacuzzi. A tub is what ma washed the clothes in.
  23. Any Given Sunday
  24. Ater we burn the coal we get to keep the Ashes.
  25. Shutter Island.
