  1. Agreed, I thought that soon after I typed it. I really had forgotten how much further down the coast Surat Thani is. I don't know about you, but outside of starting a tour of the south and bypassing Bangkok, Hua Hin doesn't appeal.
  2. The purpose of the thread is per the OP. Back to thread fuxing BigD? OP there is a hotel section with reviews etc..... For me the soi7 / 8 location is too crowded and in your face, but you could not want for more places to get good food around there. Have you ever considered serviced apartments which offer more space?
  3. Damn you Villa, now I have an pining for tinned red salmon, dripping in malt vinegar on barm cakes!
  4. These agents mark up the ferry fare 200 %, they issue a special ticket with no price on it.The problem generally is transport from port to hotel and getting around the island.... as someone says it is a bit of a mafia and sometimes it is difficult to get back to the ferry. I had a much better time when I took my own vehicle and drove there myself. If you can arrange a rental, you will have a better trip (the ferry is a roro). Otherwise the Thailearner option is best, but don't take one that only drops you at the ferry terminal.
  5. Which Big C?
  6. I think the 'whatever' was a hovercraft, a GB invention. I kind of agree with the stranded on the pier aspect, baht buses ready with gouges. But actually they have pickup points, so I hope drop-off ones too, Royal Garden, Thailiving Ferry Office, departing from Ocean Marina which is miles out of town. In Hua Hin Clock Tower and Inter Continental. Departure is Pak Nam Pran pier, miles out of town. I have the leaflet in front of me... currently 1200 baht one-way, promotion, regular is 1600. I would have thought Samui, competing with the Bangkok Airways monopoly would be a better route.
  7. Geez, I thought I read everyone.... must be the sunlight. As you say one or the other Joe..... Hard to discuss with someone who plays both sides....
  8. Yes and Edinburgh too isn't it? lots of places on the continent doing badly too. If you have a flight coming soon, good luck!
  9. I don't know where BigD does his cut and pastes from but I am surprised these experts don't know how to spell borescope....

  11. Joe, although you may think you do, I do not believe you know what everyone thinks nor why everyone does things. You try to speak for everyone .......

  14. No need to get smart ass Joe, too early for all that shit. Thais do not give purely to receive 'thanks'.... it is intrinsic in their concept of merit and luck. Perhaps I accede to giving to avoid embarrassment now and again.....
  15. Yes, to add to last weeks fiascos.... Rolls-Royce announces new TotalCareĀ® deals worth $1.2 billion with Emirates Wednesday, 24 November 2010
  16. If I had to do a visa run by air I would do Penang, Singapore, Bali, Japan, Korea, Philippines, anyplace but India.
  17. You are right to search for an honest one..... My stone got swapped....
  18. Well sand.....
  19. Yes.... if I give it is not with the specific aim of bringing good fortune upon myself.... Joe, your rose tinted glasses are out of fashion for the modern LOS and switchblades.
  20. Aha Rowan Atkinson
  21. The website seems to work for me though....Grand Sole.
  22. Well I know my TGF is capable of charitable acts.... but she learned them from the farangs at the school she attends. I stand by the impression I have, perhaps the Thai circles I move in have less money... ANd what little they have is preferably spent on a lottery ticket than given to a beggar.... If they do give, for sure they are hoping for something back... the merit system.
  23. It seems to have been taken over by Russians and Indians these days.
  24. Pappy expressed my thoughts.........I always smile wryly when called khee niaow by a Thai lady.... these people often define tight. Remember charity is not obligatory and Thais reserve it for friends and family.
