  1. The US law says recognizable. But read the whole posted article if you are a commercial photographer. I have had images rejected for what I believe you allude to. edit: but someone would have to recognize the image and a court agree. "Hey, that's my brother in the beer ad!" Many stock photo houses won't take the risk. Then there is Photoshop!!!
  2. As a freelancer who sells to stock photo houses on occasion, any recognizable person's image that is used commercially requires a release. - even if you take the photo in a public place. "The Right of Privacy Although the laws of the 50 states vary, all states recognize that individuals have a right to be let alone in their daily lives and that harm (in the form of embarrassment, scorn or loss of status) can result if that right is violated. However, the right of privacy is not absolute. In particular, the courts have long held that news reporting and social, political and economic commentary — the things the First Amendment was designed to protect — are more valuable to society than an individual’s right to be let alone. Therefore, images that are part of the public colloquy about events have usually been exempt from privacy lawsuits. In contrast, the courts have generally held that making money is distinctly less valuable to society than the right to be let alone. Thus, privacy issues typically arise when an image is used for purposes of trade or advertising. That is, it’s not the picture, but how it is used that determines the need for a release. For instance, an image that is printed in a newspaper, shown in an exhibition or reproduced in a book might well be immune from a privacy suit. But the commercial sale of coffee mugs or t-shirts with the same image would probably not enjoy such protection. An advertisement almost certainly would not be immune. from: http://asmp.org/tutorials/property-and-model-releases.html
  3. We colonists don't get accurate news about them either. It is understandable.
  4. The article I read here in the States said otherwise but I stand corrected, ozijeff. Thank you for pointing it out. The US media is obviously not as informed on matters outside America as we pretend - duh ya think?
  5. CT, I am assuming you responded to my post but cannot be sure. I will never see it. Best of luck to you. If you are inane enough to continue responding to my posts hence forth that is your waste of time. I won't waste mine reading your responses and have not for some time now.
  6. Fair enough. Germany's team is a little long in the tooth. England
  7. My mother was German but I am rooting for England 2-2 tie
  8. For those who don't think Americans take soccer seriously, I was in an engineering meeting today when one the engineer's phones started buzzing. A real no-no to have it on and to answer it is even worse. His wife sent a text message. USA 1-0, the whole room, including top managers, cheered.
  9. My Welsh colleague was delighted in the French loss but more because the prima donnas flew 1st class to South Africa and economy back to France.
  10. Joe, Thanks for your comments. Putting down other people's sports/cultures as a means pumping up the greatness of your own smacks of bigotry, immaturity, arrogance and ignorance. Now, I would like to ask the learned opinion of all here - from the remaining teams, who are the likeliest to play for the championship? To me, Argentina looks very good so far.
  11. A lot of that breakfast, especially, egg, toast, potato and bacon are very American. The sausage is a bit much for me. I am not excited about the beans and stewed tomato.
  12. helpful analysis better than: http://fredericiana.com/2010/06/16/fifa-wo...-breaker-rules/ "Luckily, the official 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa regulations come to the rescue. Article 39, no. 5, reads: The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows: a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches; goal difference in all group matches; c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches. If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows: d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned; e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned; f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned; g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee. In other words, if the points are the same, and both goal difference and scored goals are the same, they resort to how the two or more tied teams fared only in their games against each other. And if all else fails, the order will be drawn from a hat."
  13. And what is up with that? You look at France's roster and especially England's and you wonder how can they lose or tie lesser teams. The only thing France did as a team was vote as a team to boycott practice and head back to the team bus. WTF?
  14. Sportsmen and their superstitions! I hope at least they change their undies!
  15. What needs to happen is Lampard needs to take control. He needs to get the ball, he needs to create, he needs to shoot. When he does that with Chelsea, Chelsea is awesome!
  16. We struggle in soccer also and still have a team equal to yours so far. We have all of those minor sports you mention and so much more. You have become a very limited people by mentality. What happened? You used to be great! We will have your back the next time you try to kick Argentina's ass over their Malvinas. We are loyal to a fault!
  17. grrr, the dial holes are too small for old, fat, (arthritic?) fingers!
  18. I think for someone my age, 59, it is a gimmick but the younger generation is into tech gadgets as part of their lives. I have a cell phone, for instance, but carry it in my vehicle for emergencies. My daughter and son on the other hand do not have a land line. My phone at work and home is just that.
  19. Manchester United had Tevez. He didn't fit in. Now he plays for a lesser team where he can be THE MAN on a team sport.
  20. after what they did boycotting practice, I am in total agreement.
  21. Yes, even Lakers, Celtics and Yankees fans can't brag on that. And what about the English Premier League? If you aren't one of the chosen few you don't have a prayer and have to hope for a top four finish. 1990–91 Arsenal 1991–92 Leeds United 1992–93 Manchester United 1993–94 Manchester United 1994–95 Blackburn Rovers 1995–96 Manchester United 1996–97 Manchester United 1997–98 Arsenal 1998–99 Manchester United 1999–00 Manchester United 2000–01 Manchester United 2001–02 Arsenal 2002–03 Manchester United 2003–04 Arsenal 2004–05 Chelsea 2005–06 Chelsea 2006–07 Manchester United 2007–08 Manchester United 2008–09 Manchester United 2009–10 Chelsea It just seems like Manchester United has won every season in the last 20 years. In fact, they have won 11 times. 55 percent And nidnoyham, Celts are not Brits. And if they are so British, why are there separatist movements in all three areas? They never had a vote to join England, did they? They are part of the British (former) empire at the point of the sword. There are many who wish to be dissolved from your union. I know many Welshmen, Scots and Northern Irish (Catholics) who are sympathetic to the idea of a split. Even Anglos were taken over by Normans beginning in 1066. French, lol. Your lack of knowledge concerning how many foreign born players we have playing in our leagues indicates you cannot carry on an intelligent conversation on this topic. I learned to love soccer late in life because I am not a closed minded bigot. I used to think soccer was a boring spectator sport. I was wrong. What I did not do was show prejudice toward part of another's culture (sport) because of my ignorance. Sport is difficult. We love to watch the games we grew up playing. It is not boring to us to see the best athletes play the kid's games we played. I have played competitive baseball, football, basketball, soccer, golf and others. All sport has its place and has its audience. WhyTF would anyone put down another person's interest? I think we see your point of view for what it really is. Edit: in my rush to post I erred in saying Saxons when I meant Normans. I know the difference and if you knew my real first name and family lineage you would see it for the senior moment it was. Now I see it is more than my spelling that is deteriorating with age.
  22. Apologies if someone else posted this but I don't have time to read all of your comments. Regarding the official from Mali, he has been banned from officiating any more WC games this year.

  24. But not a show stopper for those of us who can afford to apply for the visa. Let's say it is doubled to 1.6 million baht. I for one had planned to live on 800K or less so it is only a matter of coming up with the initial payment, living within my budget and replenishing my account from USA assets yearly.
  25. More excellent advice. I have read on Thaivisa.com that there was talk of doubling the requirement. But this may not be as horrible as it seems except for the initial visa. With the current economic situation I would hope that is doubtful (2.5 years for me) but.... Thai logic is not American logic.
