  1. Have you thought about the river and temples in Bangkok?
  2. No problem. My bad for not being clear. One of the things I love about Thailand is the craziness. There is more risk than back home in my sanitized world. Crossing the street at my age is an adventure. Ten years ago I could still sprint across Second Road. A family of five on a motor scooter. A rats nest of electrical wires. A pickup bed filled with workers on their way to work. Motorcycle taxis wearing a worthless helmet. I could go on and on. I am glad my world is safer but I feel alive in Pattaya and that is largely because there is more risk.
  3. I was not speaking of the madness. I see a lot of that and not just regarding traffic. I was only speaking of what might interest the police there. Much like in the USA where there is such a thing as a speed trap, various police agencies around the world do consider such things as revenue and bes ways to get it. In the USA, though denied by the police, there is alleged to be a quota system for writing tickets. In Thailand there is neither revenue not behavior change in ticketing poor citizens. In a town like Pattaya, farangs are the better target, especially as regards revenue.
  4. Go scrub the pussy juice off your boat. It's slippery when wet.
  5. Peerhaps unfairly cynical or perhaps not but I doubt the Thai police are interested in poor Thais unless something is egregious. Stopping them is not worth the time, whereas foreigners are more likely to be a better source of revenue.
  6. I really liked the arabs in the show. I guess I was unhappy about weak plot lines and people doing things that are convenient to the plot but not logical....like giving an internet capable gaming device to the daughter of a terrorist, who then contacts her brother, who then tells the dad, who then escapes. I am not usually so harsh on shows. This one got under my skin somehow. I am sure that there are many shows I have liked that others would question my sanity for liking it. I am happy for all of you that are fans of the show. I am one minor critic.
  7. All I was doing was explaining what I do and asking if it is a reasonable approach or perhaps, since I don't drive there, I should carry nothing.
  8. My understanding is that should one be asked for specific documents and one doesn't have what the official deems correct, the situation can then vary from a warning to go to the hotel and bring the required documents to the proper office or first you are taken to the office and told to go get your documents and to return. I hesitate to mention tea money but I am sure it happens. In all my trips I have never been hastled in any way by the Thai authorities so I have a higher opinion of them than US customs who always hastle me upon my return.
  9. A great tip. In all my trips I thought I needed a passport. Thanks! I left mine at a currency booth once. Fortunately no problem. But dumb.
  10. I don't know about others but I make a colored photocopy of my passport plus carry with me a wallet card, which is not strictly a passport but can be purchased along with a US passport. I figure the two of them can get me as far as the hotel if need be. Perhaps not but when I see white guys walking around in speedos, I know I have more proof of my permission to be in Thailand than many walking around. I only carry my passport for currency exchange and then it is back into the room safe.
  11. Jack Ryan spoiler alert So, the brillinat Americans take the terrorists's family to an American safe house and then give the daughter of the terrorist a device capable of communicating over the internet. Loser show. The only good characters on this show are the arabs. At least they are diabolocally fun.
  12. What gets me is that the dollar is supposedly strong. I look at the dollar to baht and wonder who decided that was the case.
  13. If my squirrel is there, please send him home!
  14. Do they not get onto their bikes or into their autos and give chase?
  15. Hi. Currency rate is certainly to your advantage but how is inflation there?
  16. Done through four episodes and the show has grown on me.
  17. I have had acid reflux for years. Take medication and I am careful to eat mid afternoon because it can be quite bad when lying down to have acid reflux.
  18. A better effort by ManU but did have a RC and saved a penalty kick. Arsenal needs to tighten up that D. I am disappointed in Tottenham but Watford is tough in the early season.
  19. There was a topic on the back step. I have done it when I thought it is safer than being surrounded by a gang of ladyboys, likely pick pockets. They won't fine the driver. They will go for those that have money. I am so used to having to have a DL, registration and proof of insurance that I am surprised that farangs wouldn't have required documentation for driving a motor vehicle.
  20. Thanks guys for expanding my football horizon.
