  1. What I did see of the weaponry was consistent with some of what I was familiar with i the service. Of course, they have made a lot of improvements in 45 years. I will be on it tonight. Do you watch it on the History channel website or through a streaming service on the TV?
  2. It is a great series. You need to give a little time for the characters to interact. There are lots of side stories and interactions.
  3. Nevada Smith
  4. I didn't finish the pilot. Maybe I will try again tonight. Strange because I like this type of show generally and I am a fan of Walton Goggins.
  5. Yes the comment was of no use for understanding and followed a post that included Eastiny.
  6. I kind of think MM may have sort have nailed it earlier with his nude travel comment. Maybe the future is that you can't bring anything. Even shoes have been used as bombs. I do hope they crank up the temperature in the cabin though. The shrinkage factor can be embarrassing.
  7. That might make cheap people actually check their luggage.
  8. There has never been pure capitalism in the USA. Congress has always picked winners and losers. The railroads were given access to cheap tracts of land and right of way. The Oklahoma land rush was government involvement into what would have been inevitable. The Sherman Antitrust Act, the Tennessee Valley Authority, forcing corporations to contribute to Social Security and Medicare and of late Obamacare which forces small businesses to comply with offering healthcare. Obamacare also gives subsidies which go to insurance companies. Bailouts all the way back to Chrysler if not farther. There is no such thing as pure capitalism. There never was. China has figured this out.
  9. lol, you are correct - the ninth circuit court would immediately put a hold on it. The irony is that you need some mass deaths caused by people from those countries to cause any change in the public dynamic.
  10. When I was in Manila, I went touring with a cabbie who had formerly lived a while in the USA. He took me to a Chinese cemetery, among other places. The richest Chinese had air conditioned crypts. He explained it was so the relatives could come to spend time with their dead relatives in comfort. Status, even in death.
  11. I guess you really can't take it with you.

  13. Perhaps all electronic devices can be inspected internally. I know I have seen security asking people to turn on their devices to make sure they are actually operational and not fakes. Perhaps an internal inspection is needed as well.
  14. SPOILER ALERT: So, started watching season 5 of The Americans They go to a biowarfare facility to retrieve samples from a dead body. The facility has a simple chain link fence with a mobile perimeter guard every 20 minutes? THESE ARE DEADLY PATHOGENS. Their security was no better than Scofield Barracks (25th Infantry) when I was there. The they dig up a body infected with Lassa hemorrhagic fever. THEY ARE WEARING RUBBER GLOVES They dig up the body and they smell the putrid remains. DUH! Olfactory molecules are larger than VIRAL PATHOGENS. If you can smell the remains you are smelling the virus. Seasons one and two excellent. Seasons three and four tainted by teeny bopper silly storylines. Season five starts off with this nonsense???????????? Don't bother.
  15. Write a book! There is so much history. Many US servicemen and others from the various time periods still living would be happy to be interviewed. Great stuff.
  16. I finished season 4 of The Americans. I will watch (catch up) on season 5 but I am losing interest...too much about stupid teenagers.
  17. agreed. at this point it is about staying solvent in the difficult years ahead.
  18. I chart the long term history of investments. I also have an advisor to bounce these type of questions off of. A great point!
  19. Thanks I will look into those as I like the idea of stable stocks that pay dividends as part of my portfolio. If you invest, you risk. Investing in bonds or savings devices do not help you grow. In fact you can lose over time due to inflation. Also, a recent editorial in the local paper blasted the stock market rapid rise as benefitting the rich. What the editorial failed to acknowledge is that unless you sell a security, all gains and losses are strictly paper gains and losses. The only way to make big money on anything is to buy low and sell high. As the DJIA has had a bit of a selloff since it reached 21,000, it looks like some have taken advantage of that principle. However, when people are buying the markets go up. The markets are mostly up for a long while. It appears that the common man through 401K and IRA accounts is doing OK too.

  21. In the USA it is based on the Federal Reserve interest rates which have been near zero for years. The Fed has announced a 1/4 point increase and possibly two more before the end of the year. Savings and bonds should start having a better return over time if the trend continues. The days before the crash were the hey day. I doubt I will see that again in my lifetime.
  22. It could be my only chance to join the mile high club.
