  1. About the modem: I would consider a router (with Network Cable access rather than USB!) instead of a USB modem. USB Modems need Software drivers, these can sometime make problems, or in case you change the Operating system they might not be available, so an external modem/router (which needs no drivers at all, configuration and settings are done through your Internet Browser) is the most flexible solution. This also gives you the possibility of adding more than one Computer to your ADSL line, and it adds security to your Installation, as your PC is not directly connected to the Internet, ther
  2. YOu can get Bangkok Hotels at Priceline Hongkong, but no Pattaya! Sunny
  3. See Pete's post, I too have Jinet 512/256, with similar results, and I am overall quite happy with it. To save money, you might as well consider the 256/128 Package for a little over half the price, the speed difference is not that important once you don't download or share lots of music and video (which I do ....) Check your IM for Details of my bar! Sunny
  4. Guess the differences between these offers are the number of contracts sharing the same external lines ..... In my case there seems to be very little sharing, as I almost all the time get a decent speed near the listed one. Somewhere else and this might be different, though ..... About more than one client (PC) for a contract: Practically all cheap (less than 5000 Bt) plans forbid this, but as it is almost impossible for them to find out, just ignore, and do it! Just make sure you physically remove the router and the other PCs once you call them in for repairs! I very much doubt you c
  5. I have a Jinet 512/256 Connection in Jomtien. Costs are around 2600 Bt (incl. VAT). I made the contract back last October, at that time they offered unlimited traffic, for new Contracts they only give you 10GB a month (5 for the 128/256; for around 1600 Bt). The connection is quite fast, I almost esclusively use international servers, probably have less than 2& Thai traffic ...) and I get DL speeds around 38-50, so very close to the theoretical 55 for a 512 Connection. The connection gets lost for 10 or 20 Minutes every day or two, but so far no real problems. Just don't expect servic
  6. Thanks Dungheap, I'll give it a try next time! Sunny
  7. Just to understand that correctly: You contact help desk and tell them you want to place a bid of say 60 US-$ for a 5star Sukhumvit Hotel, and would be happy to pay 3 $ more in case they make sure you get the Westin (or whichever it is you fancy)? Or do you use the guidance figures for bids they give you at the Webpage? As these are very often far higher than a succesful bid, and usually you end with a price that you could have gotten elsewhere, I doubt that that would make sense. Sunny
  8. A little less hot since two days, and also some substancial rain yesterday night. But don't worry, it is great anyway! Sunny
  9. I always stayed at the new wing when I stayed at Sunshine Hotel, and loved the rooms as well as the general feel of this Hotel. Have only seen one room in the old wing once, and it looked worn, definitely in need for a shave and shower (the room!). Sunny
  10. That's interesting! Do you do this before bidding? Or after you won a successful bid but want a different Hotel? Sunny
  11. Agreed, but you forgot to mention the number of cheap-charlie bars making this road one of the busiest in Pattaya, apart from Walking Street. Sunny
  12. Oh, yes, he even bought a "MAKE $175,000 w/ PROVEN LOTTO LOTTERY SYSTEM WIN MONEY 100% GUARANTEE! Ebayer TESTIMONIALS BIG MONEY MADE!" for 19,99$. Must be a real expert in everything he does! Sunny
  13. Just curious about the internet: Do they have broadband in the rooms, wireless somewhere (Lobby?) or just an internet cafe at reception? Sunny
  14. What comes to my mind first is that the rooms in Sabai Inn vary a lot in size and location. With this internet deal you might be locked into the least desireable category. Other than that I think the price is good. Sunny
  15. This could be some security code, or a fuckup. MAybe it is a (misnomed) .pdf or Word Document that you opened with the wrong program? Check out this possibility first. What is the name of the attachment? Does it have any of the usual suffixes? Maybe it has a suffix that does not correspong to any of your installed programs? Other than that, just send an email inquiry to the company. They should be able to explain! Sunny
  16. I fully and wholreheartedly agree. Let the Water mandness take over for one day, it would be fine and I personally would definitely like to participate in it. And restore the traditional Songkran ceremonies for the other days. It is maybe not so much the amount of water wasted, but it might serve as a signal to all that water is a precious commodity which has to be taken care of with respect. Sunny
  17. Expect a joiner fee in general when you book through an agent. Once you book directly (make sure you book a double) you won't have to pay a joiner fee. Sunny
  18. The 1 Rai in foreigners name is correct in principle. But: You have to invest a total of 40 Million Baht, and you have to be approved by Thai government authority, which rarely ever happens. In other words, forget it. Sunny
  19. Elef, the story goes on: As soon as some (Thai) lawyer questioned the legality of a Thai Company owning land as a proxy for a foreigner, they alltogether suspended the deal. Also, their conditions on "owning" land were on minimum investment of either 10 or 20 Million Baht for land and house investment ....... Sunny
  20. As a foreigner you can buy a Condominium in Thailand under certain circumstances, but no land or house (House yes technically, but no the land, so this is in reality not a practical solution. Most foreigners either construct a Thai majority owned company (which they control in some way) to own land for them, or agree on long term (30 + 30 Years) leases. Every lawyer in Thailand will give you detailed advices on this topic (unfortunately every lawyer will give you a different opinion on that topic, too). Elite card does not include the possibility of owning land, that is a myth. Other than t
  21. Baht bus cooperative are discussing prices hikes with the authorities now, wait and see. Also taxis in Bangkok are expected to raise their (ridiculously low) prices, some people expect the rise to amount 100% Seems that the subsidised gas prices Thailand had until just after the elections (coincidence of course ....) start to make trouble now they're gone. Sunny
  22. I fully agree with you! Best choice for still reasonable price in Bangkok! Just want to add the in-room DSL internet connection for those (like me) who can't be without their Notebooks even in Thailand ..... Sunny
  23. I agree this guy running the viewtalay.com Website is reasonable with his prices, and correct. Chose the style and price you want to spend for your Condo, and expect to add maybe 3000 or 4000 Bt a month for utilities and cleaning/fresh sheets/towels twice a week. In case you want cleaning and sheets every Day, tell him in advance, and expect to pay another 3000 - 4000 Bt for this service. I used these Condos quite often before I rented my house, and always received good service. He does not demand payment before arrival, but does collect the rent for one moth in advance, plus a deposit a
  24. Never have enough Riels on you to even think of it! Actually, I doubt it, but maybe ... Sunny
