  1. Winston, your list looks like provinces, not towns !?! Sunny
  2. I'd be quite happy with their calculations in case I were to sell ...... Sunny
  3. Ashboy, that's right, but this is a professional Beta System with barely a resmblance to the home Betamax System the grandfathers amidst us used to be familiar with. By the way, does anybody still remember the "Video2000" system? I've lately been told by someone who knows alot about these things, that it was technically superior to both VHS and Betamax, just could not succeed on the market as being too late to grow a bigger number of Companies producing Hardware. Sunny
  4. Which Continent, which Country, which town? Sunny
  5. Should work. Many threads on this topic. Just do a search. Sunny
  6. Sorry, Emil, no offense intended, I justtook you too serious ..... Sunny
  7. Thanks for that Info. That's Amazing! How do the Aussie DVD players work around the RPC2 Regional Coding though? (The one used in the USA since a few Years where the Disc tries to "trick" the player, so finding out that the Player is region-free? Most players I know that have Multi-region facilities cannot play these discs. Only the chaeper ones where you can manually program a Region Code do work. Sunny
  8. Well, Beta is still available anywhere except in museums? Wake up, it's been a few weeks since the Seventeens! VHS is the only household Video Format left since, ah, Jimmy Carter? Sunny
  9. Well, it all comes down to two (well, actually three) different technical systems for TV Viewing. There is NTSC in USA (and Japan), PAL in Europe and most of Asia (including Thailand), and there is SECAM in France and Eastern Europe. In the last 5 or so Years, most (but by no means all) TVs, VCRs and DVD/VCD Players can play back all of them. Older ones cannot. So, with a new System you can play any VCR Tape anywhere in the world. DVD Players also have a so called Region Code, a preprogrammed "feature" that checks wether the Disc you play is licensed for the Country you're in, and prohibits
  10. It is probably stuck on Customs now, that might take some time .... Sunny
  11. Eneukman, just go to a Bookstore (or a 7-11 but they are often out of stock) and buy a Prepiad Internet Card. I recommend Loxinfo. You buy 10,20,30 or 60 Hours for a price of around 12 Bt per Hour, just establish a new Dialup Connection, use the local Chonburi Number, your User Name and Password from the Card. If only everything would be that easy in Thailand ...... One warning though.: There are some Cards on the market (not Loxinfo) with Information all in Thai, and much better prices per Hour. They might be limited to Thai Sites only, beware! Sunny
  12. Fonz, I did, but the machine told me in elaborate Thai that it won't give me more than 20 000 Bt, for reasons set up by the Thai Board Of ATM Manufacturers, PLC, Inc; or so. Had no problems of repeating the 20000 Bt performance, though. Sunny
  13. Socalguy, you might want to check out AnyDVD, a nice progam allowing you to set the Region Code as often as you wish on your Computer. Works great! Also take care with evaluation on NTSC versus PAL Discs based on your Mobile Player; most Players these times are good for PAL as well as NTSC. So, in the case you definitely cannot watch PAL Discs at home (but better check out the Manuals for your Home System DVD Player and TV, as most of the units shipped in the last Years are good for both systems!) you might be still unlucky back home although the Disc worked at the Mobile Player. Again, che
  14. In Thailand GSM runs on 900 and 1800 Bands; make sure your phone (USA is mostly 1900 Band) supports these frequencies. Eneukman, changing the Sim from the same provider is always possible, locking means not locking to one individual card, but to cards from one provider. Other than that, the search function on this board will give you lots of information on this topic. Sunny
  15. I found the DVD Dealer at South Pattaya's Tuesday - Friday market the best availble here. Go East on South Pattaya Road, after about 700 Meters on the left Side is the entrance to the Market. Go East, staying on the right Side, and up till the end. There is the shop in one of the shophouses. Prices are 120-130 for regualr DVD and 180 for DVD9. The guy there knows his stuff, and can tell you about the Quality. Never had problems there, and if the copy is faulty, he exchanges it. Opposite this shop, in the market, is a good Music CD and DVD shop, as well. Sunny
  16. Ferrocious, try the India by Nature Restaurant in Jomtien, Thappraya Road. It is next to the entrance of View Talay 1, opposite of Pan Pan Italian Restaurant. Definitely recommended, but rather on the upmarket side! Expect to pay 2500 - 3000 Bt including wine for 2 Persons. Sunny
  17. Bigmike, Ethernet is the Cable you use to connect the ADSL Modem to your Computer. In your case I guess it is just one or 2 Meters, on your Desk or under the Table. But in order to have a Broadband Internet Connection in a big Hotel, you need to run this Cable into all rooms, preferably behind the Wall. And this can be quite a task to install, once it is not there already. Sunny
  18. Cyber, might well be I was not very precise with the term proxy. As I had some problem with the connection there at Grand President, I got to talk to their techie. He explained the setup as they are running a Multiplexer (24 Connections or so, I don't recall), which itself is connected to the Internet by a leased line of 1 MBit speed. Sunny
  19. Cyber, as i mentioned in my earlier post I came across a DSL modem at the Grand President Bangkok. But: This modem connected to a Proxy Server within the Hotel, sharing the line of 1 MB If I remember rightly. So, it is just a different way of distributing the line into the rooms (they don't have to set up Ethernet Cables all round the Hotel), that's all. Sunny
  20. I really enjoy reading my home morning paper with a cup of coffee while looking at last night's BF still sleeping after the morning excercise ..... so, I guess, it's up to .... Sunny
  21. Torrenova, yes, that was the best offer I could get in Pattaya. And it is not even a dedicated speed, it is shared with 5 other users, so in theory can go down to 50/25 when all others are online and using it full throttle. Hey, this is Tailand, not England! Sunny
  22. Cyber, I very much doubt that any Hotel offers dedicated guaranteed Internet connections. A little Math: consider the Hotel is 70% booked over the Year. Suppose one out of 5 Guests goes for this service, for average two hours a Day. These figures would result in theory that each guest online has almost the full bandwith available. Now correct these figures for High Season, times of the Day when the Internet is used more often than other times, and so on. Without going too much into details (I am sure these calculations are not at all unknown to you at True Corp. ) I guess that a 1 Mb c
  23. Cyber, as Ibber is the owner of Residence Garden I can smell a certain reason behind his posting, different to what you have had in mind ...... Just did read on this forum (or was it on Thaivisa?) that Bella Villa has Wireless Internet in the rooms, so I guess it is finally coming to Pattaya!!!! In Bangkok the prices are quite varied, from 600++ at the Marriott to free (included in room rent) at the President Solitaire. Grand President where I staid a few times did charge around 160 a Day or 700 a Week, they have an unusual setup providing an ADSL Modem in the room, instead of using a ro
  24. Zidane, Koh Chang is definitely beautiful, but no more unspoiled, I'm afraid. Was there in 1999 and again this April, did not believe my eyes ..... Also wouldn't worry too much on Malaria, either. Sunny
