  1. Saw it on the way back from LOS, but can't remember if that was in there . I thought it was a very enjoyable movie. It re-enforced the idea that you better go out and live your life (see family, friends, go places like Thailand) and not just sit home behind a keyboard all day (like some do). Because when it is all coming to a close you will be thinking, I had some good times, not "I wish I had...". As far as aging goes, just don't look forward to ending up like granpa here! GRANDPA'S ON THE PORCH AGAIN A man came to visit his grandparents, and he noticed his grandfather sitti
  2. Enjoyed several visits to the PBG in May and it was as Pete said. It was a nice place to chill out, had a great view, the cool breezes were a welcome relief and the service staff were friendly. I'll be back in July and will definitely stop in a few times. Please do consider getting some cushions for the wood seats for the tables.
  3. China Airlines just started advertising this summer special and a few others to Asia. Looks like air travel might not be all that heavy over the summer before the Olympics. The state of the economy probably is not helping either. Los Angeles to Bangkok from $864 for May/June/July 08 Round Trip Fares. All fares include fuel & insurance surcharge and are subject to change without notice.. Taxes must be added at time of ticketing (must be booked via CI website).
  4. Well you did it, good luck. If we bring two freelancers do we get two Freelancer Discounts? After yiou get settled, hope to hear more about the food and what time the bar opens up. Chance to have breakfast there?
  5. Those are the same prices going from Honolulu to BKK, $865 until May 15 departure, then $1065 summer rate until the middle of August (plus tax - about $79). Looks like CI is advertising a $634 RT from LA to Hong Kong. Don't know what it would cost to complete the trip to BKK?
  6. Geez Paul, must say I was stunned when I saw your stunner's picture. I usually like BG's with little or no make up and no tats, but will make an exception with this one! She must be a virgin, right? Keep the cage locked and good luck at W & W. Hope to stop by in a few weeks!
  7. Cider's got it right. Took my TGF there several times and treated her fine. He can't personally do any work, but his Thai dentists are good. He is supposed to be very good when it comes to making crowns and such (has his own shop to make them on site). His wife is the receptionist and a stunner! Can't understand why he doesn't smile more?!
  8. Even though they are regular cars, seems to be a problem when they see me. Maybe the drivers are too well known? Not sure what kind of stickers they have on the windshield and if that identifies them. Anyway, I think I have seen that classic 1950's yellow checker cab riding around, steering wheel on the left side with a older bearded guy that looks like Santa driving, beeping his horn, boom box speakers and music blaring out. Must be BigD!
  9. Well they are not the multi colored, metered ones, blue and yellow, Pink and whatever, etc, just regular cars. It doesn't look like they are registered for the airport with the deal the AOT has with some cabs, it's an ongoing battle, as you probably know. We have a similar setup in Honolulu, one cab company has a concession and they are the only ones allowed to pick up at the airport, so you can get another non airport authorized cab company to take you to the airport and drop you off, BUT they are not supposed to pick up fares at the airport. I'm sure we are not the only place that do
  10. I have been using Toom about the same as you during the last 6 months, but with different results it appears. Emailed Toom about it this last time and he just said problem with taxi mafia, police.... I do meet Toom's driver by the Information Booth, exit door 7, but instead of being able to walk to the parking garage and ride out in the cab, the driver wants me to meet him outside the parking garage, because if he exits with a fare, he claims he will get a 2000 baht fine. If it's not happening to anyone else, no problem, I'm the LD in this case! I guess I will be trying Mr T ne
  11. I mostly pre-book and sometimes go upstairs if I am just going to Bkk. It's habit now, but when I first started coming to Thailand, used to get in at 1 AM and you weren't really sure what to expect as far as taxi's at Don Muang. I told this story before, but being a newbie, back in the year 2000 or so. Back then, there were stories of falangs being taken for a cab ride and coming back with a body part or two missing (true?, I don't know, but got my attention back then) I had no taxi reservation, so I picked a driver in the arrival hall at 1 AM after a 20 hours of flights, who said, sure
  12. I'm going to have to try Mr T.. Toom charges 1200 baht from Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya and 1000 baht from Pattaya to the airport, no matter what time of day (all tolls included). I have been a big supporter of Toom for a while, never really let me down, but... The problem I have had with Toom the last several times at the airport is that they want to meet you outside of the parking area and it has gotten a bit crazy. Last time I had to hop a registered cab for a few km's to get into Tooms cab. Seems the police are really cracking down on the unregistered cabs and it's a 2000 baht fine if
  13. I just tried their web site and seem to have a bit of trouble with it also. You can contact Majestic Suites directly: Anand the General Manager at reservation@majesticsuites.com It looks like the hotel discounts site mentioned by Evil is a little cheaper then what I booked directly for September, if those are nett numbers and include BF's (breakfasts, not bar fines). One thing about booking directly with them, you don't have to pay up front and an change plans easily. Have fun!
  14. Their site says 15,200 one way and 25,200 RT plus tax and fuel surcharges, so not sure what it would be, but thanks. I just booked a flight to the mainland this way with UAL (a series of one ways) and used the standard miles to upgrade (15K) to my final destination and 15K miles back, so it was not a problem. As usual, you just have to make sure that they have unallocated seats for upgrades. Just wanted to see if BM's had tried to book using a series of one way fares with UAL and if it was less expensive to do it this way.
  15. You mean to tell us that you have gone through all the Thai girls in Pattaya since you moved to Pattaya and now have to import them? A change of pace and style, sounds like an interesting idea, good luck.
  16. ATM's are a good secondary source of cash, but I have switched back to using travelers checks as my primary cash source. As other BM's have pointed out, get big denomination TC's ($500 US) and you probably get the best rates. I stay away from Kasikorn Bank ATM's! From what I recall, a few too many BM's have reported problems with them. They tried to use one of their ATM's, get no cash, but get charged for a withdrawal and seem to have a hard time straightening things out with the bank.
  17. I almost always us China Airlines to BKK, but do use UAL domestically. Unfortunately, UAL is no where near competitive in price or schedule from Honolulu to Bangkok (a shame). This was posted on an EVA thread the other day, but just wanted to run it by those of you that use UAL alot. I started using beta flight tracker software from Yapta.com a few weeks ago. Anyway they promise to let you know when flights you want to take come down in price. Finally, the point is that it can be cheaper to book flights as multicity one way fares and was able to book a domestic flight through UA

    house plans

Coolthaihouse, Teakdoor and Thaivisa (forum) web sites all have good information on building houses and there used to be a few books at Bookazine with plans. Some people just check what plans builders can do in the area they are building in and go from there. Good luck!
  19. Gabor, I have used Toom many times without much of a problem. I found that if I emailed him a few days before traveling to re-confirm a taxi was a good idea. The most important thing was to keep Toom's phone numbers handy when arriving, in case he didn't show up. I had to call him once and we straightened it out on the spot. The numbers he gave in his email were: any problem please call 081-4827148 or 083-0178066
  20. Wife: Honey..... What are You Looking for ? Husband : Nothing. Wife : Nothing...?? You've been reading our marriage certificate for an hour ?? Husband : I was just looking for the expiration date. ********** Q - What is the Difference Between Mother & Wife ? 21. Best Caddy Replies Golfer "Think I'm going to drown myself in the lake." Caddy "Think you can keep your head down that long?" Golfer "I'd move heaven and earth to break 100 on this course." Caddy "Try heaven, you've already moved most of the earth." Golfer "Do you think my game is improving?" Caddy "Yes sir, you miss the ball much closer now." Golfer "Do you think I can get there with a 5 iron?" Caddy "Eventually." Golfer "You've got to be the worst caddy in the world." Caddy "I don't think so sir. That would be too much of a coincidence." Golfer "Please stop check
  22. WHO SAYS MEN DON'T REMEMBER ANNIVERSARIES? A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in their bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee. "What's the matter, dear?" she whispers as she steps into the room, "Why are you down here at this time of night?" The husband looks up from his coffee, "I am just remembering when we first met 20
  23. Sam, I am also a China Airlines Gold Card flyer and looking at changing, same as you, only I fly from the USA. United Airlines seems to be my second choice. China Airlines prices have increased to the point they are now very close to United and China Airlines frequent flyer miles are now given back at only 80% of miles flown for internet purchased tickets (United is 100%). Good luck!
  24. Who and what is he talking about, anybody know? Gouging in bars in Pattaya?
  25. I would expect to find the American airlines listed in the bottom 10 perhaps. Interesting that most of the top 10 are asian airlines. What's the matter with China Airlines? I've flown them for years and always made it back home safely!
