FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, AT A PRICE
Sybarite replied to Gabor's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Gabor, I must say that I was very impressed by your improved grammar...until I got to the end and realised that you had lifted it word for word from the Bangkok post. that sounds a lot until you realise that it is only 1000/2000 baht more than what the Hell club girls demand. -
Sky high prices...at least on the opening night at the start of September...makes me likely to be no more than a transit passenger.

Girls, girls, too many girls.
Sybarite replied to PattayaPete's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
And there is a new sports bar opening in Walking Street soon, which I expect will have more freelancers. Freelancer bars are the way to go I think. If the authorities crack down in the future on go go bars, beer bars and other bars where girls are paid to entertain customers - as part of a drive to 'clean up' Pattaya - there is not much that they could do about freelancer bars where girls just come to sit around -

dotcom, BigD... Pool tables! Yes, Pool tables!!! (btw when I referred to 'opened about the same time as Pattaya Beer Garden' I was referring only to the 'Walking Street' bar which has hit the floor running and is always full...and yes it has pool tables) But lets not hark on about pool tables. This is just one item which forms part of the general approach. I posted about this general approach - which I think will send the numbers of freelancers and guys going to PBG into the stratosphere - much earlier in the year and it did not seem to be picked up. You need to turn PBG into the sort of place that guys, especially ex-pats, will want to go to even if it were not full of freelancers. This means good food, screens showing live sport, long happy hours, arrangements with pattaya forums so that it becomes a place for people to meet for forum meets, etc. Most of this is already in place. Pool tables, bar games are all part of this general strategy. In the chicken and egg debate as to which came first - the answer is that guys will stay and drink in a bar if there are no girls there, as long as the bar is attractive in other ways, however girls will never go and stay in a bar for long if there are no guys. By all means try and attract both at the same time (which I acknowledge that PBG has been doing) but attracting the guys is most important. Once the guys are there, the girls will follow like flies on shit. More tips from the fledgling management consultant to follow -
and your next question...do the air stewardesses all wear matching corporate hijabs?

Yes, on the few times that I've been there have been hardly any girls there at all. So I was surprised where all these new girls have come from all of a sudden. Bangkok's Beer garden and Gullivers and Pattaya's Walking Street (which opened about the same time as Pattaya Beer Garden) - all are freelancer places and all are busy whenever I have gone in. There is something which I know that they have which Pattaya Beer Garden currently doesn't have. This could make a big difference. -
...but they are not allowed to serve it whilst they are flying through Arab air space.

This is just one of the many nails in the coffin of Pattaya being a cheap place for pay for play. Pattaya already had a Sheraton and a Marriott. Now it's going to have a Hilton. If all of the big name 4 star hotels are in a city then prices in that city are not going to be cheap and I can see prices for P4P in Pattaya getting towards those for Phuket and Bangkok. The go go bars, beer bars, etc will still be here for a few more years but it is just that they will just get more expensive. The authorities are determined that Pattaya will evenually be seen as purely a family holiday place or a place for businessmen to relax. Expect the P4P scene to be marginalised and cut back heavily in the coming years. For example, I don't think you will see freelancers in the future being free to wander up and down the beach as they do at present as the authorities will be keen to 'clean up' the image of Pattaya given all of the big money interest there now is in the place. Just to think that this was just once only a sleepy fishing village where US Navy personnel would visit for some R&R activity.

As you no longer make trips to Pattaya, this is probably the only bird that you have managed to get close to in years...

valentinotriplex, it's time for me to admit that I was wrong to have had a go at you over the timing of your posting of the link to the offer. It is completely my responsibility not yours to look out for any deals or offers for my trips to Thailand. Even if I had booked in a leisurely fashion I still would probably have missed the option to book the seats because this option does not come up automatically, you have to click on it. In any case, when I completed the transaction the airline would have booked my seat according to my preferences stated when I signed up for the frequent flyer program and I would certainly have got my choice of seat type (window/aisle) as the flight I booked on to was less than half full. Should I have been complaining at all given that I made a £50 saving as a result of your tip? Er, no! If I bump into you in Pattaya I will be sure to put a few beers, Thai whiskeys, or whatever is your favourite tipple, your way. Thanks. Syb

I think that must have happened in the rush to try and book the ticket in the few minutes before midnight. I am not blaming anyone though
-
Pauly77 you say 'you can even book your seats! When you go to the seat plan to select your seats, the planes I am looking at are showing 90% empty' However, you are only able to check in on-line (and thererfore reserve your seat) no more than 20 hours before the flight is due to depart. So I am not sure how you saw the seat plan unless you booked the flight to fly out the following day.

Sounds like you are just too busy - I will try another hotel. -
I started to book a few minutes before midnight but many of the dates that I tried to book for were not available...so had to keep choosing different dates and this took time. By the time that I came to make payment it was 5 minutes past midnight.... but the transaction still went through! Going on October 14th for 1 week. Just in time before I start my new job in November. £350.20 is the cheapest flight that I have ever had from London to Bangkok by some way. Thanks. Your still a prick though

You made a post about this deal a few days ago gloating about the fact that you knew about it but the details were not yet on the this forum. Another member then asked you to post the details. However you waited until 15 minutes before the deadline before posting the details - in the hope that people will miss the deadline and then feel bad that they had missed out on a great deal. Feeling clever?

A prison cell or wide open spaces

Why should she? Sometimes self enforced solitary confinement is the most attractive of the available options ... -
So are electronic devices a better option!!!!

Hopefully you would have managed to hammer out a sensible wage policy with the girls by the time I return. -
When I first went there about 2 years ago I sat down besides the long central platform on which the dancers peform. A girl sat beside me and over the course of a couple of lady drinks got out my tallywacker - because it is quite dimly lit in there - and proceeded to play with it for a while. No objections from me. That was in the good old days when there a few dark parts of the bar for the girls to do a bit of fiddling. I went back about one year ago and there was hardly anyone in the place. The girls were all old buffalos. I downed my 50 baht draft beer and headed for the door only to be confronted by an annoyed service girl. "Why you leave and only 1 dink?". As one board member I know said about Champion - he likes to get to as many bars as possible but Champion is the only bar where he has never been to - he knows where it is but just doesn't want to go there.

Where have all the girls come from all of a sudden? A couple of weeks ago there was a thread saying there was a complete dearth of females as they preferred to hang around on Beach road instead. -
Desperately overcrowded seating, extortionately expensive drinks (150 baht for a beer, 120 baht for a coke !!!!!!!!) and extremely pushy staff who snatch up your drinks before you have even half finished them. Now FAT birds.....
