I am facing a 6 hour wait between connecting flights in December. This was one of the cheapest flights available . When I connected through Bahrain before I noticed that there were a lot of people having a kip on the floor. Does this happen in Doha a well? Does the airport authorities allow you to leave the airport and can you book a hotel through the airline so that you can rest for a few hours rather than staying at the airport? If so are there any cheap recommended hotels near to the airport?

Are these the farang guys who visit go go bars posing as customers and then report back to the police on any bars which show too much nudity or are running explicit shows? Leading to some of our favourite bars being closed down for long periods and the girls in the other bars being forced to don bikinis? If so then fuck them. They are nothing worse than traitors!

I once met a girl in Marine nightclub who worked in a hair salon at the VC hotel. As soon as I saw her my heart skipped a beat as she looked like one of those Hi-So actresses you see on Thai TV. She was freelancing that evening and so agreed to come back to my hotel. It an eventful night and after seeing her off the following morning I had returned to bed to get some much needed sleep. My head had barely touched the pillow when I was woken up by the blare of the phone. Who could that be so early in the morning? He had obviously seen her leaving my room and felt he had to make a comment. To this day I have no idea who that guy was.

I was there in the August when the last free drinks party was held. Hats off to you - it was a great gesture which few other bar owners seem to be making. I spent a load of money on lady drinks that night. I did however notice that the service girls would roll their eyes and spend three times as long getting the drinks whenever I ordered the free draught beer on its own compared to when I ordered it with lady drinks.

It is not so much the coldness of the beer that is the problem as the coldness of a few of the girls at NLD1 but I guess that has been covered in another of the threads.

It wasn't so much that she was asking for drinks as actually taking them without explicit agreement from myself. The first few times when I went in she would come up to me ask me which girls I liked. I would point out one or two and she would wave them over and ask me whether I wanted to buy them drinks. I would agree and then she would ask 'one drink for mamasan', it's OK?'. It is always a good idea to keep in with the mamasan so I would say yes. However, after a couple of visits this changed so that after I had agreed to drinks for the girl/girls she would say 'one drink for me', nod her head and go and order the drinks without waiting for my reply. She probably thought that she knew me and that I didn't mind. Being English I was reluctant to make a fuss and also I don't want to spend my evenings out arguing all the time. However, when you look back at the end of the holiday you do wonder how you managed to spend so much. It should be up to the guy to offer to buy the mamasan a drink if she offers to bring girls over as this is part of her job. If the mamasan was bought a drink for every girl brought over then guys would soon run out of money. If I bar fine a girl as a result of the mamasan's recommendations I personally don't mind if she suggests a drink for herself as long as she is quick to accept graciously with a smile if I say that I can't. I don't really want to make a big issue out of this as I don't want to get the mamasan guessing as to who may have complained. You would see two or even more girls around some guys (who were probably known to them as big LD buyers) and then groups of girls sitting together talking to themselves whilst other guys were left on their own for long periods of time (looking lonely and isolated). It would be difficult to attract the attention of a girl that you might like from the group by eye contact or hand signals. It must be disheartening to be a bar manager when you take time out of your busy schedule to ask potential customers what they want only to be shot down. You are only trying to get BMs to help you to help themselves. If bar owners are on this site every day blatantly plugging their bar then this would become obvious and BMs are free just to ignore these posts. There is the option on the system to click the box to block posts from any BM that you want to ignore. Some time ago Alan offered to produce information showing which of his girls in his bar liked to do particular things e.g. anal, 2 girl, etc. This would have been invaluable information (information is the key to saving both time, effort and money) and is the sort of information that you could get from the mamasan in the bar anyway but again he was shot down. I was one of the BMs who posed the question a few weeks ago about the problems of unfriendly girls in bars. In some bars like Hot n Cold, Windmill, etc girls descend on you as soon as you are through the door, often in pairs and ask for a lady drink after 1 minute of talking to you plus a drink for their 'friend'. But at the other end of the extreme in bars like Heaven Above, Living Dolls Showcase, Happy, etc you could be sitting on your own for hours on end with no girls being friendly. NLD1 is getting that way. If you are on your own then this can make you look like a loner (loser?) especially if most of the other guys in the bar have ladies with them. Sometimes the girls seeing you on your own for a while will assume that you like being on your own when this is not the case or that the other girls are ignoring you because you are a problem or a cheap charlie. They will tend to gravitate towards the guys who they think are the big spenders - usually the fat, old, white guys and leave the 'loner' looking types on their own - the 'loner' types may welcome the opportunity to look like Hugh Heffner surrounded by women but are not given the chance. There have been many times when I have been in bars including NLD1 and would have been happy to buy some LDs but no one approaches me. I am not going to spend my time desperately trying to catch girls attention just for the privilege of buying them drinks. On one occasion a girl in NLD1 asked me why I was on my own and why none of the girls had come to talk to me (WTF - how am I supposed to know?) . On another occasion a girl said that she thought I was gay because I had been sitting on my own for a long time Of course the not so attractive ones are the ones that need to work harder to get LDs and so they are the ones who are most likely to come over first. However, just because a girl comes up to talk to you does not mean that you need to buy them a drink. If you are not interested or want to talk to your mates then the girl will soon realise this. The danger is that the girl could distract you from finding a girl that you really want but there is nothing to stop you looking around whilst a girl is sitting beside you - she will soon get the message that you are not interested in her. Often a girl seeing me look at another girl will say "you are interested in her?" and offer to ask the other girl to come over instead of her. Girls could be trained to come up to a guy and asked whether he wants company. He can always say that he is OK and she will move on. If other girls see that a guy is constantly shooing away girls then they may not want to come over to try their luck. This is understandable. In which case the guy can find the girl that he really likes and indicate for her to come over. I see nothing wrong in using the mamasan to get a girl to come over and the mamasan should not expect a drink for this. If you bar fine the girl as a result then perhaps a drink for the mamasan is in order. But I would find myself being asked to buy at least 1 LD per night for the 'old' mamasan for accepting her offer to bring a girl over in NLD1 even though I ended up only buying her one drink and not bar fining her. Sometimes the mamasan would just order the drink for herself without asking me first and I would always let this go (this is not likely to happen anymore because of a recent disagreement with her and she now blanks me - luckily NLD1 has two mamasans and there is the younger mamasan who is more popular with the girls). Go go bars can be dark, noisy places and the girl you like may be busy dancing on a stage some distance away. You may not always be able to catch her eye - and there is then the danger that she may go and sit with another guy. So why the hell not employ the mamasan. If the mamasan comes up to me soon after I come in to ask me whether I want a girl to come sit with me then that is no problem. I can just say not right now and get the mamasan later when I need her. The key is to point out which girl you want rather than let the mamasan choose as she may choose her favourites or a girl who needs to catch up on her LD total for the month. I don't come 6000 miles to sit in a bar on my own and it can get a bit boring watching girls shuffle round a pole in bikinis for half an hour. It is flattering to have girls come up to you and ask you if you want company even if you don't find them attractive - I don't see how anyone should really mind that. If they talk to you for 10 or more minutes and ask for a lady drink then you should feel under no pressure to have to say yes. It is totally up to you. The right amount of time that a guy should be left on his own before he should be approached is not a precise time. However, girls and the mamasan should be taught that if they see a guy sitting on his own for a lengthy period of time (and 10 minutes or more is about right) to come over and ask him if he wants company or if he is OK. He then has the option to request company or not. I have sat in restaurants where street trader after street trader have come up to me with goods - I just wave them away. It is no hardship especially when it is women coming up asking me whether they can sit with me especially as I never get that in the UK. The situation where a guy sits on his own for 30 minutes, looks around feeling lonely whilst the girls are giving attention to other guys, he then gets pissed off and leaves disgruntled is just as bad as the situation where a guy has to fend off packs of unattractive women badgering him to buy them lady drinks as soon as he walks through the door.

I reserved and then cancelled my reservation at the Pattaya Bay Resort when they confirmed by email that you are only allowed one female guest in your room for no extra charge. There is a 500 baht charge for each extra girl that you bring back. One of the great things about Thailand is that you can enjoy the 2 girl experience for very little cost compared to what it would cost in your home country. I aim to experience this a few times on every trip and I once took 4 girls back to a hotel (it was not that great an experience - 2 girls is enough for most people). Staying at Pattaya Bay Resort could prove to be very expensive indeed especially as they charge the extra fee even if you bring back two girls for a short time. In 6 trips to Pattaya I have never paid a joiner fee. I can understand the hotel making a charge if you have the same 2 girls living i.e. staying for more than one day at your hotel when when room is only for 2 people. However, making a charge if you bring back an extra girl for a one off really sucks. 500 baht is a lot of money - this is the cost of a short time in many bars. This is just a means for them to make more money as it does not cost them anything - they are not providing an extra bed or any extra towels, toiletries, etc.

When I went into Whats up agogo in July. There was a very good looking girl lazily lapping at the clitoris of a girl who had her legs spread on the mattresses at the far end of the bar to the entrance. She would raise her head every now and then to look around before languidly resuming her 'task'. I was sitting so close I could see her that her tongue was flicking across the raised hood of the girl's clitoris. I did not have to pay anything extra to see this as this show was almost continuous. One month later when I went in there last week things had changed. There were girls in their bikinis on the mattresses but they were standing up and not touching each other. There were also girls standing in the jacuzzi wearing white vests and underwear with the water up to their ankles - a strange sight however a result of this bar being specifically warned about their shows as part of the current crackdown. I was in there at 1.30am which was quite late however the bar was open for another 2 hours and I was one of only two customers in there. On previous visits there was always a minium of 7 - 10 customers inside. As there was not much to see I had one drink and paid up - unfortunately I only had a 1000 baht note. When the change arrived and I was putting it away 4/5 girls suddenly descended on me asking for a tip - understandable because there had been little or no business that night. Some of them thought that by yanking down the fronts of the panties and indicating that I could put the tip in there was all that they needed to do to obtain a tip - sadly no.

Having stayed at Tim bar and read other reviews, I have to say that there some key negatives The person that owns Tim is a bit of a monster and is very difficult to deal with. She will not make any changes if you have problems e.g one guy had problems with ants in the bed but nothing was done. She is money hungry and along with the rest of the staff hate it when you take girls back to your room who are not from the gogo bar below the bar - and the girls in the gogo bar are known for being old, ugly and fat The rooms with jacuzzi's are really just normal baths with jets rather than proper jacuzzis. They tend to smell as they are not cleaned properly This is not a hotel and so there are no hotel facilities such as a restaurant and pool. The rooms do not have balconies There is a noise problem due to major construction taking place next to Tiim bar and also from the traffic from the multi lane second road as the windows are thin. Security at the bar is poor. They do not record girl's ID's when they arrive and the room keys are left on top of the outside bar when the gogo closes A plus point is that you can get rooms for under 1000 baht but you can also get rooms for this price at other places e.g. at the Secrets bar in Walking street, which are more modern. The price at Tim bar is not such good value when you consider that it is not really a proper hotel.

A few comments about the hotels after looking through the websites Hotel Konig Mansion: This has red, blue, green and PURPLE furniture and decorations - tasteful.It is also in the Arab quarter. Globetrotter Hotel: Yes, it does look cheap - from the outside it looks like a backpackers hostel. Vault: This requires a non returnable deposit of 1650 baht per booking.

Wonderful...except that some airlines purposefully do not allow their flight details to be listed on a price comparison site because they have to pay out each and every time that someone clicks on the price comparison site and then is forwarded on to the airlines's own site. They are charged for each click. Many airlines have special deals which they do not list on price comparison sites but keep for their own customers i.e. those customers who log on to the airlines's individual site without coming through a price comparison site.

For my first trip to Thailand in April 2006 I paid around £450 booking less than two months in advance, direct with Thai airways. I wanted to go back for the December 2006 period for the weekend just before Christmas to new years day. As this is a quiet period at work. Despite looking in August and September I could not find any indirect/direct flights less than £700. Eventually I gave up and booked in early October for a non-direct flight with Gulf Air for £850 for the weekend before Christmas Sat 23 Dec to 1st Jan. This year I looked earlier this month and the cheapest flight for the same period was just over £700 indirect. I decided to book now rather than wait. The peak summer holiday month (August) and December - January are times when the airlines jack up the prices even months in advance of the flight time because they know people are eager to get away in those months.

1) The Lek hotel's airconditioning units are very noisy even on the lowest setting - you and your date for the night may have problems trying to get to sleep 2) The breakfast is buffet and is left unattended in the open air. I have seen flies in it and I got food poisoning, I think from eating the buffet 3) There are no proper in room safes in the old wing - just a flimsy lockable cupboard 4) Room service is only until 10pm 5) Rooms in the old wing are in need of updating 6) If you go to Walking street a lot then bear in mind that the Lek is still a 25 minute brisk walk there. If you have a date for the night you will need to arrange a taxi back as I never found any girl willing to walk back
