The main requirement for a bar like this is that it is brightly lit, like the one in Bangkok. At the BKK beer garden the whole place is very well lit and you can see what girls look like before motioning them over. I have not been to the one in Patts but from the pictures it looks as though in the evening it is dimly lit. Dim lighting works for me when I am looking for women in nightclubs in the UK but it works against me when I am trying to find a woman in Thailand. There have been many occasions when I have been talking to women in dimly lit bars and nightclubs who look OK but when we get outside. Aaaargh! I like to see what I am getting.

My course of action in a situation like this would be to Formally complain to the bar and give them reasonable time to look at what happened and get back to you Report the matter to the police if it is a possible crime and the tourist police. The police may not take any action but the tourist police could bring some heat to bear if they thought that the matter could get reported and lead to poor publicity putting off others from coming to Thailand If all the above fails and if you have no intention of going back to the bar again then publicise the matter on forums. This will antagonise the bar and means that they are unlikely to offer you any compensation You seem to have gone for option 3 far too quickly. Now you will not get any compensation from the bar, they have been publicly attacked and so will be unwilling to admit any liability that they may have earlier conceded. Also, this is one bar where you will not be invited back into. Giving the amount of money that you spent and that you stayed on after the incident shows that this was one of your favourite bars. You should have persued discussions with the bar as long as possible. With the threat of unwanted publicity the bar may have offered you compensation but now all that you are gaining is revenge and putting off some people from going to the bar. In a few months this incident will have been forgotten and the bar would have replaced any customers that may have been put off by this negative publicity - you will have gained no permanent benefit and will never be welcomed back into this bar again.

Is this not the same bar where some scandinavian guy got pepper sprayed and had to be scraped off the pavement by passers by after deciding to partake of it's hopsitality one evening?

I hope you spend some of your relocation budget money on attracting some attractive ladies to the new bar when it opens. When I popped into Mistys for a drink back in December there was not a single girl there who was decent looking enough for me to want to buy a lady drink for. Ended up buying a lady drink for a random service girl as there was not that much difference looks wise between them and the dancers.

I am not normally known for making hysterical statements but Songkran was the worst days I have ever spent anywhere at anytime. It is probably the only thing which could make me want never to return to Thailand. It's that bad.

Does Pattaya have the equivalent of a telephone directory enquires or yellow pages where we can find these 'recognised charities'? I have never seen any of these charity workers walking around trying to help the street beggars.

That must describe at least half of the bar girls in Pattaya..

I had a look around a few of the rooms at both of the day and night hotels. The area was very shitty and I felt nervous walking around. The rooms were appalling. Broken shower heads, rusting baths, wardrobes with doors hanging off. It is massive and the feel of the place inside was like a prison. I had no intention of staying but the receptionist confirmed that if I brought back a second girl then I would be charged an overnight fee.

Do they throw in a free Thai girl for that price?

Pattayaland has perhaps the best set of neon displays of any street outside of Walking Street. Many newbies therefore get distracted and go there not knowing that there better bars in Walking street. The bars there know that the guys will eventually discover walking street so they try to hustle them for as much money as they can - the chief amongst these being Kitten club. Pattayaland was always too close to comfort to Boys town for me in case I got drunk and wander into that L shaped bit connecting the two Pattayaland sois. As for Misty's it would be a shame if it has gone down hill until you realise that there are now 80 go go bars operating in Pattaya. On a week's holiday you would need to visit a dozen different ones every day to get through them all.

Paul, I have a serious problem in that on recent visits to Hooty's I find that I'm failing to maintain a hard on once I have been in the bar for a while. I never used to have this problem.
