Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR)
tko replied to cannonball83204's topic in Expat Issues
I don't see where US citizens not living in the US are exempt? The language is "citizen or resident" The only exemption is if the account never reaches $10,000. -
Club Mirage, the old Lennies/ Shooters
tko replied to Obsession's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
I enjoyed all three incarnations, but probably Shooters the most. -

A perfect example: On the drive home everyday, I listen to CBS news radio. Everyday, without fail, they will say which way the markets moved, and state that it was because of some single item of news that day. They want us to believe that millions of investors around the world made the decision to buy or sell the various stocks they were interested for the reason they select. "When it comes to financials, just look at the numbers and ignore the text." I like it!

Unsurprisingly, for one with your political views, you'd be entirely wrong with your bet. I get most of my news from a wide variety of sources on the internet. FOX news, like CNN, is mostly a bunch of filler that isn't worth the time. The only reason folks like you hate FOX news is because they allow a few conservatives on the channel, and lefties don't like other opinions to be heard. I may listen in on Rush Limbaugh maybe once or twice a year. He is entertaining, but I work during his show. I don't know who or what "billo" is. No matter how much you wish it was true, the administra

No of course not. Power for 1.5 years, and nothing is their fault. It never is. Even though it didn't happen for the FIVE years that a responsive Congress was available to the President. It must have been the MAN, man. The reason there haven't been any criminal charge is that: No crime has been commited. You just disagree with his policies. BTW: I'm pretty pissed at the current President, too. He's way too liberal (Democrat) in his spending policies for me. I imagine I'd consider you more lucid when drunk.

Actually, if you'll re read my post, I did mention the Fed's role, in an edit several hours before your response. In addition, while the Fed has an independant decision making role, that does not mean that they are in an ivory tower and should not consult with elected officials. After all, the Fed chief is appointed by the President and approved by the Senate. In any case, for a change, they chose to be conservative today. Good.

For those who haven't been paying attention, the "power of the purse" is held by the US Congress. The President can pressure them to enact his policies, or veto a bill that is bad enough, but it's still the Congress' job. The US had the highest growth rate in the developed world for five years. 1.5 years ago the Democrats took power in both houses of Congress, and now we appear to be sliding into recession. Thanks Pelosi/Reid. In any case, the current melt down isn't due to lower taxes on the "wealthy", which actually increases economic activity and therefore tax revenue. Nor is it du

Is Thai Capital to be changed, could be also big changes
tko replied to Dr Mick's topic in Expat Issues
I started coming to Thailand in the early 80's. In those days BKK would flood every single year to the point that vehicle travel became impossible, the water would reach just under the car windows and engines die. That's why the high steps on older buildings to get up to the ground floor are there. They've sorted that out long ago. BKK has very little flooding now, even during the worst monsoons. When was the last time your teacher was in BKK? -

For a "USA farang" you sure don't have much of a handle on the way Americans speak. -
Yeah, I could copy straight in to my browser address, and it worked. Just not as an avatar. In any case, it appears to be an imageshack issue. I switched to photobucket and its working now. Thanks!

I used to host my avatar (1.4MB animated gif) at my ISP, but my bandwidth runs out after a couple weeks every month. I tried putting it at imageshack.us, but the forum can't see that URL. If I copy the same URL straight into my browser, it pops up fine. Any ideas?

TDAmeritrade stock broker allows wire transfers to be initiated by fax after you've set up the transfer online the first time. They don't care where you are, only that you fax them the signed authorization form. If you're Apex level they don't charge for the wire transfer, though you're still charged a small amount by the intermediate and receiving banks. WAMU does free wires but you have to go to a branch.

Google Earth isn't updated very often. When I looked at my house I the yard didn't show gardens I'd put in years before.

I finally decided to build an avatar, and as its animated GIF (large) I store it offsite. When I look at it the system is stretching it out along the x axis. I'm using the same file as an avatar on another forum that appears from the UI to use the software and it doesn't do this. Is there any setting I can adjust for this?

Just to clarify. If your savings interest, dividends and your company pension are paid in the US and you file US tax returns on the income, non of that is taxable in Thailand - correct?

I have an unlocked dual band world phone I use with a USA subscription sim card. Will I be able to use a Thai pay as you go type system? I don't see any menus that allow entering a credit.

-
hi, logged on quite a while back without noticing the minute counter wasn't there anymore. Since then I can't find a way to log off. I've searched the screen and clicked on my own name to see if there is a way from the profile. If its in the bar at the top that has index on the left side, i've never been able to see all of that due to the "Hotel" etc. bar overlaying it. thx tko

Reasonably price. Cold air. Clean, if a little run down. Guards at the elevators to take IDs if she's not your regular. Multiple girls not a problem. 8th floor pool is closed for rework until January. They still have an indoor pool open. I stay there regularly because of its location.

If you go to any of the gogos or beer bars on soi diamond, and look away from walking street, you'll see the lobby of the hotel. before 2am your limo will have to drop you off at 2nd road and soi diamond, just to the left from pattaya tai. Its about a 5 minute walk through an intense crowd to the hotel from there. The top two floors, roof top pool, and patio are closed until January. I found out when I called to make a reservation for later this month ;D and asked for the 8th floor. They're putting in a new pool up there. I'll stay there anyway because I love the location.

Some of the soi 33 girls use it as a short time hotel. I thought it was kind of run down, but for 800B in BKK its okay. Long way from the gogos but if you head about 100m toward the higher sois from the hotel, there's a sky train station.
