  1. Doug, Might not have been a rip off. A few of the baht buses that are running on Beach Rd have routes that begin up in Nakula go south to the Dolphin roundabout then over to Beach Rd, south to Centeral and then back up to Nakula. Best to ask before you jump on unless you don't mind changing buses.
  2. Filling up a 747 or 777 for a direct flight from the US to LOS is difficult. At least 1/2 the paxs on the flights I take are staying in Japan or making other connections. Now when the 787 comes off the production line things should change. That is a smaller aircraft and should break any distance records currently set.
  3. and a very few of those southbound ones once they hit the Pattaya Tai and 2nd Rd intersection will go south to Jomtien. Also a very few of the northbound ones on soi Buakaow will turn right once they hit Pattaya Klang and head towards Sukhumvit Rd.
  4. What were you doing taking a baht bus to go a short distance? Soi 7 and I are just loosing up when we reach that distance. Unless your going out for the night, returning from the market with a load or its pouring down rain you need to be hitting the pavement.
  5. I've also been using Dr Darika at PIH for the past 2 years. She will do your exam, cleaning and fillings. If you need some major work done you will be reffered to one of their specialists.
  6. When I walked by there about 3 weeks ago nothing was going on next to the AA. The pillings had been covered over by dirt and it looked like a vacant lot.
  7. I've stayed at the Eastiny Place, the Flipper House and the Bella Vista hotels located in the soi 7/8 area. I paid between 600-650 baht a night with a breakfast included at the Bella Vista. The other two I paid additional for the breakfast but they did have restaurants on site plus other nearby restaurants. I didn't notice any noise with the windows closed and the A/C on but my hearing isn't the greatest. Don't know about your internet requirement as I used the nearby internet shop located at the Sunshine hotel, they did have phones in the rooms.
  8. Where do they belong??? The problem with posting in the hotel area is that when you talk about bars or BGs associated with your post, you will be chastized because your not following the guidelines of the "Open Forum". I'm waiting for something to be mentioned about the photos one of our boardmembers recently posted on the Sawadee Seaview topic. Then again maybe photos are alright as long as there is no discussion. Personally I would rather read about hotel reviews together with BG's and bars, as many of these small new hotels are just rooms above bars, than read about pissing, shitting and homosexual experiences in the members area.
  9. Larry, That's the place we looked at across from Champange A Go-Go. They said that if you stayed there you had access to the nearby LK Metrople's pool and fitness room.
  10. Those of you that think that there is a transportation problem if you stay at one of those new places located near the corner of Soi Diana and Soi Buakaow have absolutely no clue of its geography or the baht bus routes of Pattaya. From that area you can get to the Big C, Sois 6,7 & 8, and Walking St for 10 baht. Getting back will take you 2 baht buses unless you can walk the distance from the Kiss restaurant then you can get back using just one. Its only a few extra meters walk from the Areca Lodge and I don't hear any bitching about its location.
  11. Not only does United save the choice seats for their frequent flyers, they have an entire section devoted to them call Economy Plus which provides an additional 5" of legroom. On top on that if the plane isn't full they will leave the center seat vancant next to the Premier Executive passanger.
  12. I just flew Thai BKK-Inchoen and they showed 1 movie. The system on SQ has close to 60 movies of which about 40 are in English. In addition the system has TV programs, music and games. The quality and quanity of food offered is superior to an airline that I've flown economy and the Singapore Girls are very pleasing to the eye.
  13. I will be arriving around 11:30 PM (23:30) Nov 15th on United Airlines. Should be finished with immigration and customs around midnight. Anyone wanting to share a ride to Pattaya let me know. I will be away from a computer until next Saturday so if someone replies don't think that I'm ignoring you.
  14. Well I know the legroom can vary, but how can the width of the seat. Boeing only build 1 width of 747-400 fuselage and every airline that I've flown uses a 3-4-3 seating in economy. The only way that they could make the seats wider would be to make the aisles smaller.
  15. I haven't heard of a carrier group being in Pattaya for a few years. The annual Cobra Gold exercise takes place in May. I 2nd what irishman said about flight in the summer from the US. Its one of the highest times as many take their vacation at that time and most of your foreign students from Asia are flying home to visit family. This is the time that I use my FF miles for free trips. Hotels are cheap at this time.
  16. Matt, I also favor the ATMs, they're everywhere and 24/7 access. The amount of money you need varies greatly from person to person. You should join the member site (its free) and you will get more detailed information.
  17. JAL is in the One World alliance along with AA and Cathay Pacific. Thai is in Star alliance with UA, ANA and Singapore. I flew JAL once and thought it was fine. I did get a bulkhead seat so I had plenty of legroom. My only complaint was that I was only able to convert 70% of the miles to my AA acount, maybe because I had a discounted ticket. Now I only fly with UA (unless they put me on a Star alliance carrier). I know they get alot of bad press, but their FF program is great especially when you get to Premier Executive level. I always call the Premier Executive line and get Emergency exit rows after I have booked my flight.
  18. Unless your the first one to sleep on a new bed, they're all used.
  19. I looked at the place when it first opened last December. The rooms and furnishings are some of the best in Pattaya. They have nine different types of rooms with the smallest being 36 sq meters and the deluxe suite a spacious 168 sq meters. Like rawlins stated, the prices vary depending on length of stay. As an example the small room was listed at 1500 daily and 30,000 monthly for it promotional rate which ended 31 Mar 05. If you stayed 2 month it dropped to 20,000 a month, 3-6 month and it was 18,500 and 6 months or more 16,500.
  20. Larry, If she can't find one I have one and its in inches not metric, let me know if you need it.
  21. These places are guest friendly, to get those low rates below 300 require you to book for a month. Most of the places with the low monthly rates have a daily rate of 400.
  22. I agree, for a person who claims to get good value for what he spends I can't understand why BigD contiues to stay there. The amount of baht you've saved by staying at the Cock and Bull is significantly more than if you had stayed at the Skytop and been the winner of the prize.
  23. You will actually get better accommodations for the same baht if your a little off the typical tourist area. If your on a typical 2 week holiday then stay near the bars, if your there for 6-9 months then being near the bars might not be as important as being near a large market and eating places. Limiting yourself to a specific area when your in Pattaya for a lenght of time is foolish, afterall when you lived at home you traveled a greater distance than a 5 K radius.
  24. A few more questions, do you require a pool, are you planning to rent a motorbike and if you don't, what is an acceptable walk to the nearest baht bus route?
