  1. Try either Eastiny Inn, Eastiny Place, Flipper Lodge, Flipper House or Sunshine hotel. They are located on Soi8/7 and should run you around 800 baht.
  2. pattaya mad, If your concerned just show up without a reservation. You are arriving when things are slow in Pattaya. The last 2 years the Sunshine and the 2 Flippers where having specials during this time where you stayed for 14 days but only paid for 10 along with other hotels offering deals. Also if you like the area of the Areca, a new hotel has just opened about 50 meters down the soi.
  3. He's not a member so he can't access the member's board.
  4. Johnny, Fortunately I never had to do any speech writing but during my civilian career with the USAF I had to write letters and talking papers for Air Force personnel as high as 2 Star Generals and members of the Senior Executive Service. Unfortunately they were very picky about what was submitted to them as sometimes it took me 4 or 5 attempts before they were happy. Some of the other staff would have been happy if they could get theirs through on 5 attempts. Like you said alot of lies, on one occassion I had to submitted to our headquarters how many people we had working of some specific weapon systems. When I got the input from the different organizations, which was highly inflated as they were hoping to receive more funding, I tried unsuccessfully to reduce the numbers. About a month latter the shit hit the fan when headquarters said that they were now going to manage those systems so they were going to reduce our maning by those numbers that were submitted. We then had to make up another story that we didn't fully understand the original tasking.
  5. First there are 2 Eastiny's on Soi 8, Eastiny Inn and Eastiny Place and they are both owned by the same people as well as the Bella Vista nearby. I've stayed at both the Place and Bella Vista and they never charged a joiner fee. Have heard that Eastiny Place charged an extra 300 baht for every TG over 1.
  6. I hope you understood that when I mentioned Sunshine it was the one on soi 3 and not soi 8. I don't really negotiate about room rates. I'll ask someone at the front dest what their rate is and they'll respond with a daily rate. I then ask how much if I stay "X" amount of days. This person will then get the manager who will give me a rate which is lower than the daily rate. You need to do this when the manager is on site.
  7. What I've discovered over the last 3 years in staying at about a dozen different hotels is that they will deal if your staying for over a week and they have vacancies. You need to talk to the manager when your looking for a deal. When I use to stay at the Eastiny Place they charged me 650 a night. One day when I turned in my key to one of the ladies behind the desk another guy was arguing with the other lady on why they wanted 800 a night. The lady that I had given my key to ask me not to say anything to that guy about my rate. When I used to stay at Mikes Beach I was always charged 600 a night, yet the published rate in their brochure was 1200. Fonz, I don't know how long you are staying, but you have 2 things in your favor. One is the time of the year and the other is that hotel that has been mentioned as being under construction should be finished along with another hotel on soi 3 near Beach Rd. Also the new Sabai Resort should be up and running next to Sabai Room. I have seen a couple of the Sunshine suites and they were very nice.
  8. If your looking for a clean and quiet beach then I would suggest Koh Larn. Stay in Pattaya if your looking for the nightlife.
  9. If I followed terranova's advice not only couldn't I be in this area but I would never be able to visit Soi 7/8 or Walking St. I live on the other side of 3rd Rd so I guess I'm really pushing my luck in that I'm crossing 3rd Rd and 2nd Rd a few times every day.
  10. I noticed this activity last month at the Made in Thailand beer bar complex. In an area that in the past had about 3 or 4 active beer bars and another 6 or so vacant beer bars along with some small shops, they now had about a dozen active beer bars with another dozen being constructed with the shops gone. In addition a small soi run along side which will take you over to 2 more new beer bar complexes on Soi Buakaow. This area on Soi Buakaow is rapidly growing with bars and hotels, I wonder when someone will put in the first go-go for this area?
  11. The Lek has a new wing about 3 years old and the old wing which was renovated about a year back. The last 3 cons on the Thai Garden are exactly the same as the Lek with the staff being listed both in the good and the bad.
  12. If those that Fatboy mentioned are full, try either Bella Villa Prima, Sunshine Vista or one of the Sabai's. All are guest friendly and for 2100 baht you should get a very nice room. They are not in the location you asked, but they have plenty of beer bars and soapies nearby and it only a short distance by baht bus away to Soi 7/8.
  13. I thought that the bed I had at the Bella Vista was one of the softest if not the softest that I've had while staying in Pattaya. No pool but right in the middle of Soi 7/8.
  14. Isabellla, All three of those hotels are out of my price range so the closest I've been to them was when I walked by them, but if I was bringing a child I would choose the Marriott because of its location. If you haven't already, check out the reviews on the Marriott done by boardmembers. Also I would suggest that you start another topic asking specific questions about the Marriott. Good Luck, Emil
  15. Have you considered the Marriott. Its adjacent to the Royal Garden Mall with many shops, restaurants and 2 movie theaters.
  16. Anyone wanting to share a ride to Pattaya. Will be arriving on United Airlines at 11:30 PM (23:30) and should be through immigration and customs around midnight.
  17. Hammer it would depend what amenities he requires, does he need a pool? The best place that I've stayed for value is the Holiday Mansion. (see reviews under "T") Another place that I noticed that has only been open about 2 months is the Marina House which cost 13,000 a month if renting for 3 months and not to far from the Holiday. A new hotel has also opened in the new complex by Lolitas. Don't know the price, but will be back in Pattaya on the 9th so if you want me to get any info send me a PM. If he doesn't require a pool then there are numerous options, I stay at a place for 7500 a month but it is on the other side of 3rd Rd but only about a 50 meter walk to the baht bus line.
  18. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but someone posted last month that this hotel had been leveled to make way for progress.
  19. I thought it's location was fine as its right on 2nd RD just a short distance from the Royal Garden. Walking St could be better if its near the enterance but it could be all the way down by Tony's or the pier.
  20. BigD posted recently that Alex is still in business. I get in on the 8th of Mar at 11:30 PM so I'll already be in Pattaya. I use the Pattaya based service khrongfa for my past 5 trips without a hitch. The info on them are posted elsewhere in this thread. I would suggest that you post your own topic about sharing a ride as most people look at the date and time and may not see your post here. Emil
  21. I like the exit row seats. Plenty of legroom, only drawback is you have the smaller trays.
  22. I just read an interesting article about this aircraft last week in my paper. Apparently none of the US airports can accomodate this aircraft. (the new Bangkok airport can) Millions of dollars must be invested so these planes can land and so far only 3 or 4 have said they are going to make the modifications. Even with the modifications, when one of these birds are taking off or landing the adjacent taxiways will not be active because of the A380's wingspan which will slow down the time to take off and land other aircraft. The other airports in the US are not willing to make this type of investment with only the potential of 1 or 2 landings a day. Las Vegas, which has a freeway that goes under one of its runways said they would not be willing to accept one even for an emergency landing for fear of collapsing the runway because of its weight. Fortunately Nellis AFB is nearby.
  23. If your talking about the one run by Thai Limo, then the trouble is that it only leaves 3 times a day. When I've flown on Cathay or Eva, I've taken the noon bus.
  24. Alan, The service I use is based in Pattaya and when I make the reservation over the net I'm asked where I'm staying. I believe the lady who handles the emails informs the drivers of the hotel location as they know where to deliver me and I stay in some of the hotels off the beaten path.
  25. Can Pattaya support another 10 movie screens. Whenever I've been to the 2 at the Royal Garden or the 6 at the Big C, the movies that I saw were less than a third full. This would more than double the current total.
