  1. I have taken these vans quite a few times and will probably continue to do so in the future. It is really economical transportation; in fact I don't see how they can be making money on this route charging only 100 baht per seat. Here are a few things to be aware of: There is not a lot of leg room. I am about 6 feet or 183 cm tall and barely fit. Any taller and I would probably pay about 10 times as much and take a taxi. Between the usual fuel stop and sometimes many stops to pick up or drop off people at alternative locations it can sometimes take much longer than 2 hours. If you hav
  2. If you are looking for gourmet food this is not the place. However I ate there quite a bit this past June, July, and August simply because Sutus Court Hotel across the street is where I usually stay now. It was fine if you are looking for decent, basic farang food at reasonable prices. And the girlfriend seemed satisfied with the Thai food. She even wanted to go a couple of times to eat a club sandwich. The longer we are together the more she seems to be taking a liking to farang food and the more I seem to be doing so with Thai food.
  3. Also right across the street from Sutus Court Hotel.
  4. Sutus Court is about a 5 minute walk or less from Natures View. They have 3 categories of room. I stayed in the most expensive rooms in the newest building where the cost was 850 baht a night in August. Nice, clean sizeable rooms with large clean basic bathrooms. Two swimming pools are onsite. Wifi was about as good as I have had anywhere in Thailand, plenty of hot water with an even flow, but the water pressure was a bit weak on the top floor (7th floor). No room safes, but individual wooden lockboxes behind the front desk are available for no extra charge. Not luxury, but excellent fo
  5. I believe they do sell new internal batteries, but I believe Apple personnel have to install the internal battery. I am certainly no expert on this, so please if someone knows to the contrary please post.
  6. I did buy an external battery for the purpose of recharging my iPad2 when the battery gets low and I may not be in a location to charge it such as on an airplane. I am not sure of the brand, but it says "NEW Trent" on the battery. It works great. When I get down to about 5% of battery life I can plug the iPad2 into the battery and continue using the iPad2 and it will bring it back up to 100%. I bought it somewhere online for about $70 a year ago. It has proven to be very useful! I now can go about 20 hours before needing to plug into a wall outlet.
  7. I honestly did not pay attention. She is such a good cook I just try to stay out of her way until the food is ready to eat. If she wants to buy a cooking device I know enough to just say "ok" and prepare to eat some delicious food. Although I don't think she has actually bought anything yet, but I'll see if she can give me any brand names.
  8. I'll ask the girlfriend if she remembers. The one drawback was it was a very small one. Probably room for one medium sized steak.
  9. I was just in LOS for a couple of months end of June through end of August. The girlfriend saw a TV advertisement for a similar but different brand grill and liked it. Later I happened to see a small Foreman Grill when walking through a store and asked if she wanted one. She took a look and thought it was inferior to other available brands so we did not buy it. My only purpose for relating this story is to let you know I did see a small George Foreman grill for sale in Thailand. Unfortunately I cannot remember where I saw it. We spent time in Pattaya, Bangkok and Isaan and it could ha
  10. I flew a couple of my legs in January from the U.S on ANA and it was quite good. I always book the cheapest flight I can find except I avoid a few airlines I consider to not be acceptable. One of my favorites has always been Korean Air as they are one of the very few flying direct to Asia from Las Vegas and have the best economy seats I have ever experienced. China Airlines is one I have always avoided due to safety concerns and just a poor reputation. From what I have read they have improved dramatically and they were the cheapest this time around. So I just flew China Air about
  11. I can also recommend Nickies as I had a chicken roast dinner here on a Sunday and it was excellent. Of course the skills necessary to make an excellent lamb roast versus a chicken roast are probably quite different.
  12. Yes especially their $6 burgers which always cost less than $6. They had a huge ad campaign a few years back illustrating how their burgers could be enormously messy but incredibly tasty. I have always agreed and find their $6 burgers one of the best tasting hamburgers ever. Although I agree In & Out is pretty good, I find their burger fairly sterile when compared to Carl Jrs. One of my all time favorite fast food sandwiches is Carl Jr's Sante Fe chicken sandwich. It is basically a broiled chicken breast with a huge chile cooked into the sandwich. I have always loved the taste of
  13. I just arrived in Thailand today on a tourist visa. I applied for tourist visa in May by U.S. mail and received after 2 weeks in June from the Thai consulate in Los Angeles. My online application was very different than yours as I think the different consulates do use different application forms and do not all require the same information. But I do believe the fee is standardized at $40 for a single entry tourist visa. Since your application states $35 I wonder if the application form is out of date, or maybe they will require $40 but are just too lazy to update their application form. Al
  14. I had an opportunity to eat there for a business dinner on someone else's dime a couple of years ago. It has an absolutely gorgeous view. We were lucky in that just after we finished dinner the skies opened up and it poured rain. It was interesting to watch high society trying to move inside while their expensive dinners were being ruined by the downpour.
  15. Because for my uses the iPad2 is generally superior. It is still significantly smaller than a small laptop and much easier to carry around. I can use the iPad to read books much easier than a laptop. I prefer the iPad for surfing the internet and reading and responding to Emails. The iPad is better for video texting as well. The only place for me where the laptop has a strong advantage is the features of Excel versus an Excel compatible spreadsheet available on iPad. Unless for some reason I am going to be doing a ton of analysis on a spreadsheet I would take an iPad with me on a trip ev
  16. I have the iPad2 and it works great for video chatting. It has a camera in the front so you just face the screen and talk. You probably do want to buy some kind of case that makes it easy to position the iPad in an upright position. In fact I just video chatted with Martin the other night and it was an iPad2 on his end. I think all these devices are just great whether it is an iPad, Kindle, Nook or something else. They all have their pros and cons and you need to pick the one that works best for your intended uses. The iPad just works out great for me. Battery life is good at about 1
  17. I do a tremendous amount of book reading all the time. When I travel overseas for more than 2 or 3 weeks at a time I cannot carry all the books I will need and keep my check in baggage to just one. This was originally my motivation for buying the iPad2. I could easily carry hundreds of books in the same amount of space as would be taken by just one small book. I also thought it could never replace the enjoyment of reading a real book. Now that I have been using the iPad for about a year, I could care less if I ever crack a real book again. I also enjoy using it for web browsing and w
  18. Hi Jacko, Thanks for the quick reply. I was planning to get the multiple entry tourist visa as I am planning to spend about 75 days in Thailand this June, July and August. What I have picked up from some research is I can get a 60-day tourist visa and then appy for a 30 day extension. But I have recently been reading that when applying for the 60-day tourist visa they may now require evidence of an air ticket (not a problem) and hotel reservation covering everyday one plans to stay in Thailand. Maybe there is some way to cover the second requirement about hotel stays, but I have no ide
  19. Along the same lines but to be a bit more specific, is there a certain amount of time you must be out of the country before you can return and receive another 30 day permission. For example could I find a relatively short flight out of the country and just turn around and return to Bangkok the same day I left and still get another 30 day permission without a problem. Or do I have to stay away at least one day or more before returning?
  20. Yes, I use "View New Content" quite regularly including right now and it seems to work very well.
  21. I have done tons of reading about HIV/AIDs for the obvious purpose of avoiding it myself. It is quite obvious that a huge proportion of the infections result from anal sex (especially dangerous for the receiver) and the sharing of dirty needles. Fortunately I do not partake in either of these two activities. Researchers have found that many people claiming to get HIV/AIDs from vaginal sex actually got it from gay anal sex or sharing dirty needles and were just claiming the vaginal sex cause because they did not want to admit they were gay or drug users. So even the statistics that you migh
  22. Departing from Las Vegas, Korean Air is the only airline that has direct fllights to Asia so I will always prefer Korea Air if the price is not too much higher than alternatives. I don't waste time in LA or SF this way and Korean Air out of Las Vegas has the most comfortable economy seats I have ever experienced. Downside is an often times long layover at Inchon. But Priority Pass gets me into nice airport lounges with showers and sleeping rooms. Sometimes I'll leave the airport for the day and have lunch with friends in Seoul. On the other hand, price rules for me. I'll pay no more t
  23. Agree with all the positive comments about RG. I stayed there this summer for a few days. Don't really know Pattaya well but I had no problem finding my way around from there. It was a good clean hotel with big rooms, good wi-fi at a good price. Have fun!
