  1. I'm on 2 lots of pills to counteract high blood pressure. When I was in Thailand last month, I brought a month's supply of both pills in with me with no problems. The pills were also left on the bedside cabinet in full view of the cleaners at the hotel - more to remind me to take them in the morning than for any other reason. I think the Thais are more likely to be on the lookout for illicit drugs rather than worrying about drugs obtained on prescription. Alan
  2. Anyone wanting to share a limo to Pattaya from Bangkok Airport on 17 November please get in touch. I'm due to land at around 4.00 in the afternoon and intend making my way straight to Residence Gardens in Pattaya as soon as I can clear customs. My e-mail address is Eneukman@aol.com Thanks, Alan
  3. A small padlock is certainly better than nothing but having said that I recently bought 3 small padlocks and then discovered that one key opened all of them! Also on holiday with 2 friends many years ago, my suitcase key unlocked their cases as well. Alan
  4. Triplegee, On my previous visits to Thailand, I've arrived at Bangkok Airport at around 4.00 in the afternoon and the queues at Immigration have been horrendous. It's usually taken the best part of an hour to get from the plane to the meeting area. What sort of time is it likely to take now going to the correct queues and not the Asean line as I have seen westerners directed away from these lines? Alan
  5. Thanks for the e-mail, Eltib but unless I've misread your e-mail, I'm arriving around 14 hours later than you, which would be far too long to expect you to wait. Alan
  6. Hi guys, I'm due to arrive at Bangkok Airport at around 4.00 pm on Sunday 17th November (courtesy of QANTAS) and will be heading straight down to Pattaya as soon as I clear Passport Control & Customs. I'm staying at the Residence Gardens. Anyone wanting to share a Thai Air limo? Post a reply here or e-mail me at Eneukman@aol.com Also, I'm returning to the UK on Sunday 1st December - aiming to leave Pattaya around 6.00pm or so. Again if anyone is interested in sharing a taxi back to the airport let me know. Alan
  7. Have to agree with the others about not buying your travel insurance from travel agents. It may be worth checking with your household insurance company to see whether they can give you a good deal on travel insurance. I get mine from Bank of Scotland (they also provide my household insurance) for a bit over £40 per year. (As a shareholder, I qualify for a 10% discount but even without this it would still be only £45 or so). If you don't have your household insurance with them the cost is as far as I can remember around the £60 or £70 mark. Alan
  8. I can't cope with hangovers these days so I avoid getting totally rat-arsed. Having said that, I had had a few drinks though not enough to stop me from walking in a (reasonably) straight line. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Unlikely I'll be doing that walk again in November as I'll be staying at the Residence Gardens and will no doubt be looking into the FLB from time to time. Alan
  9. I reckon it takes around an hour to walk the length of Beach Road, which would make it around the 3 mile mark. Alan
  10. I always take US dollar travellers cheques with me. As an HBOS shareholder I get my travellers cheques commission free from my local branch of the Bank of Scotland - though I frequently have to remind them of that and get the commission refunded when I collect them. Also, I can use them when I go elsewhere on holiday at other times of year. I may be wrong but I believe Nationwide will give you Thomas Cook travellers cheques rather than American Express. Any problems in cashing them in Pattaya? Incidentally, if you have a Nationwide flex account, you can open an e-savings account with t
  11. I used my Nationwide Building Society debit card in Argentina earlier this year and was not charged for doing so. Not sure about the charge for using my credit card but think it would be in the region of 2 1/2%. Personally, I prefer travellers cheques but that's purely my preference. Alan
  12. I had the same on my first visit to Pattaya and got that phone call to say "I had won a prize!" and could they come and pick me up at my hotel to "collect" my winnings. I don't know whether they came or not as I was out soaking up the sun when they were due to call. Alan
  13. Hi guys, I agree that the go to top/bottom feature was useful. Having said that it's actually very easy to switch between the top and the bottom. Simply press Control + Home to go to the top or Control + End to go to the bottom. Hope this helps Alan
  14. Last time I was in Pattaya, I had just finished drying myself after a shower when one of the lenses fell out on to the floor. Being as blind as the proverbial bat, I was fortunate to find the offending screw that had become loose ( I had some assistance here) and with the assistance of a tiny screw driver from my Swiss army knife was able to carry out the necessary running repairs. So, if like me you depend on your glasses to see what you're doing (or who you're talking to) take a spare pair with you. You may never find the missing screw. ;D Alan
  15. Rhoel & Tom - I had the same problem with Daniel's post. Eventually copied the text and pasted it into Word so I could read it. I did try changing my screen resolution but that didn't help! Alan
  16. Chico. Don't know about the other 1,869 members but I was hard at work earning the money to finance my next trip to LOS in November. The weather has been shite in Edinburgh recently and I can't wait to get out and top up my suntan, pay my first visit to the FLB Bar and make new acquaintances. ;D Alan
  17. Tom, My dates are almost the same as your's ...........arriving bangkok on the 17th November but returning on 1st December. I'm flying BA and their price from Edinburgh was £950 or thereby but taking the Edinburgh - Heathrow and Heathrow - Bangkok legs separately, it came down to a much more reasoanble £640. Bloody rip off if you don't live in or near London!!!! Only bugger is I have to fly to Bangkok with QANTAS, who last time I flew with them didn't have seat back tv's. I find these essential on long haul flights even though most of the viewing is a load of crap!!! The return fli
  18. Sisters of Mercy A man was driving down a deserted highway, and notices a sign that reads..... SISTERS OF MERCY HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION 10 MILES He thinks it was a figment of his imagination and drives on. Soon, he sees another sign which says... SISTERS OF MERCY HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION 5 MILES Realizing these signs are for real, he drives on, and sure enough, there is a third... SISTERS OF MERCY HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION -NEXT RIGHT His curiosity gets the best of him, and he pulls into the driveway. On the side of the parking lots, is a somber stone building with a sign on the door
  19. Martin, I'm getting the same problem as you and like you I'm using AOL7. Alan
  20. Agree a spell-checker would be useful, but bear in mind that it won't pick up "grate" instead of "great" or "bear" instead of "bare" or "sagged" when u meant "shagged" etc lol. Alan
  21. Dennis, Other reports I have seen suggest that the minimum age should be regarded as being 20. Alan
  22. Solo, You forgot to mention no 21, which actually happened to a friend's cousin. You are shit scared of flying, particularly after September 11th so you spend the time before the flight in a bar and end up totally rat-arsed. The airline crew refuse to believe your protests that you are as jober as a sudge and refuse to let you fly. Despite their offer to let you fly out the following day when you've sobered up, you piss off into London and head straight for Soho where you spend a fortune in a strip bar and cannot now afford to go to Thailand. Alan PS This guy also claims to
  23. Hi Griffo, I have Adobe Photoshop 6 (a bit expensive for the full version), but there are cheaper versions around. The version I have has a facility I use for creating jpeg files of around 20kb in size, ideal for uploading to the photo gallery. I use this for uploading photos to my own photo web site I click on File, then automate and then Web Photo Gallery. It's then a matter of telling the software where the original photos are stored and tellinit where you want to save the jpeg files to. It's very quick and you can reduce 25 - 30 photos from an average size of 25mb to 20kb in a matt
  24. Doug, don't know whether the pc's in internet cafes will have cd roms or not - doubtless some will. I was away last month (n South America not in Pattaya unfortunately) and before I left home, I set up an e-mail address with hotmail. I then added the e-mail addresses of the folks I was going to e-mail from South America and it was a lot quicker than trying to use AOL. I was also able to pick up e-mails sent to my hotmail address in no time at all. Alan
  25. I've stayed at the Dusit Resort 3 times now and can confirm that it is a good, guest friendly, hotel. As with many top class hotels their food and drink prices are expensive. From the main entrance to the Dusit (the Dolphin Roundabout), turn left and you will find a number of reasonably priced restaurants. I can also recommend the Italian restaurant on the Beach Road. Hope this is of help. Alan
