Im home now. I flew on the new Airbus 340-500 last night. I believe Thai has finally got a plane that can compete with SQ and Emitrates for flights from NZ to Asia and beyond. Finally TG have a plane with personal screens in all classes. Only problem i encountered when I was trying to start the movie, From Russia With Love I got a commentry on the features of the plane. The plane seems to have 3 or 4 classes, 1st class (not sure) ot was it 2 cabins of business, then economy premium and coach where I was. The first two identital cabins had lieflat beds. Unfortunatly no online internet (dont know if business had it) but one feature that i liked that the the side seats - 2 seats on each side of the window section (not sure on the middle section) have intl ac power outlets underneath the seats. Why i wasnt sure was that when I plugged my laptop in the little blue light lit up on the side of the seat visible to the cabincrew but i didn't see any lights in the middle section. The toilets also seemed cleaner with straighter line interior fittings but hey it was a brand new plane. Thumbs up to TG on this plane, They should keep me if they keep it on the newly introduced AKL-BKK run as I had been thinking about using another Star Alliance carrier to Asia namely SQ but would have to transfer in Singapore obviously.

bASICALLY FOR OTHER KIWIS INFO, Im on the new airbus with fully interactive personal screens. departure in 1 hour.

I was just mucking around on the TG website and came across this very good offer. https://www.thaiair.com/Promotions/Special_...ons/aseanhh.htm It seems I can travel to BKK and then could go to Philippines and say Cambodia or Indonesia for about 16k baht.

Im here and havent heard a dog. BTW The steak at Capt Corner used to be very tender and consistent. Last two trips it has been tough as old boots. Noticed the menu doesnt have the words "NZ" near the steaks anymore. Maybe the chef is using soi dogs out the back.

the parking lot is great. Grabbed these two but unfortunatly no lezzie action.

My mate booked the morning bkk-mnl TG flight and the plane left BKK 4 hours late so I think the loading may have been light so they cancelled the morning service and combined both daily flights into one. Or it could of been simply mechanical or engineering requirements. But what is going on at TG at the moment. I wonder???

They were a great band mate and watching chisel in the afternoon with a bottle whisky does wonders.

I heard from a regular pax on the AKL-BKK direct that the new airbus starts service on 01 DEC and thai will drop AKL-SYD as there is too much competition on the route. On the AKL-SYD service thai is competing with AIR NZ, QANTAS, PACIFICBLUE, FREEDOM, EMITRITES and some other crossover airlines. I tried to go to Sydney recently with Thai (as my points are with them) and it was going to cost $NZD980.00 PLUS TAXES when Air NZ could get me there for around $350.00 plus taxes.

There product should improve with a newer fleet and full entertainment options.

Are there any other ROP members on this site who are fimiliar with thais website. I know theres a area in the members area where you can choose your seats before flying or you can request "upfront" seats so you can be assurred of not being put in the back row of the plane. Arrive 10.30 pm so every minute counts getting to nanaplaza.

Thais website now says 8 days to opening. I say bollocks to that...

Floyd replied to mlay's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
ask MM I believe he stays there. Thinking of going there in November but my pal (2nd trip) wants honey hotel. Whats the walking distance between both. -
When I fly IN oCTOBER TG quoted me $1299 ex AKL with MNL incl. When I found out it was only V classd (50% points) I paid $200 more to go Q class as I needed the 100% to finally go Gold.

I used to stay there all the time. great property except for its out of the way location (but close to walking street) and the beds are only doubles. i like queen and king size beds.
-
Suitcase. Will never work, as it involves thousands of self employed people driving, truckies, cabbies, couriers etc etc.

Manila has a new intl terminal built but due to coruption, it still sits idle after 3 lonely years. Thailand has a long way to go to catch up with the caos and corruption of the Phils. But I love her dearly.

i fly in in 55 days time so we shall see but i doubt it. Maybe i should changemy hotel from bkk to ptty.

Is LK Metropole the one up off second road by kiss restaurant. Rightsaid, Bazzup and I looked at the rooms recently and their rates start at 2k. very nice and classy. I believe our mentor MM lives there.

Out of sukkumvit but not a bad price.$us30 per night. Always see it on the way to the airport and it looks nice. Guest friendly and is it near transport or better to stay in sukummvit where you can walk everywhere. Stayed at the Eastin in Chang Mai once.
