I certainly don't go to a new place because they have nice pictures on a web site and make all sorts of promises. Seeing is believing. If the girls are decent and the place feels right, meaning a friendly atmosphere, I'll go back. Giving the place a bunch of shit on a forum doesn't help anyone.

Htc Desire/hd2 Or I-phone 4/3gs ?
Gary replied to LocalYokul's topic in Technical problems or questions.
BUMP - I looked at an HTC HD2 and have changed my mind about buying another smart phone. It is a Winmo phone but can now also use Android. The thing has a huge 4.3 inch capacitive screen and I can read it without glasses. The landscape on screen keyboard is large enough to use without glasses too. The main reason I am buying this phone is that I am taking a trip to the US and can have the phone shipped to my brother in the US. I have to take a laptop from a US friend and deliver it to his brother here in Thailand. Two laptops in my carry on bag would be hard to explain to customs and I don -
A guy goes in a restaurant and sees someone at the next table who is eating a huge plate of meat. The guy tells the waiter that he would like that same dish. The waiter explains that they only have one bull fight a day and there is only one plate of testicles available per day. The waiter tells the guy he can order them the next day if he would like to reserve them. The next day the guy goes into the restaurant and waits for his meal. He gets a plate with only a small amount of meat. He is angry and asks the waiter why the portion is so small. The waiter explains that sometimes the bull wi

I would hardly call bullfighting a sport. Anytime an animal is tortured to death completely removes the sport and makes it a spectacle for sadists.

It Pattaya a Hideout City for(criminal) ex-pats?
Gary replied to Al_Davis's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
In this day and computer age, serious crimes are becoming more difficult to run away from. The old phrase, "The long arm of the law", applies now more than ever. That said, there are countless thieves, scammers and petty crooks in Thailand. There are those who, for instance, burned cars or other properties to collect from insurance companies. They ran their many credit cards to the max and came to Thailand with a pocket full of money. Some have started successful businesses and are still here. Most of them have now run out of money and are on the edge or have returned home to face the musi -
Does anyone here use OpenOffice?
Gary replied to bigdelta's topic in Technical problems or questions.
I updated to OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 and it seems quite a bit faster. A big Oracle trademark is prominently displayed on this latest version. I have been using Open Office for several years and have not had any problems or complaints other than I thought it was a little slow. -
The Johnson product, OFF contains DEET and is commonly available Thailand wide. It is a good product. I caught Dengue probably near Chachoengsao where I was working. I was living in Bangkok and the doctor told me that Dengue was not normally contracted in Chachoengsao or Bangkok. I had no idea what my problem was so aspirin seemed a good idea at the time. I know better now. Not only is Dengue very painful, the fever is bad too. Shivering one minute and burning up the next minute.
-
I can tell you first hand that Dengue Fever is a VERY miserable condition. I was eating aspirin like they were candy and they helped very little. When I finally broke down and allowed them to take me to the hospital the doctor wanted to know what I was taking for the pain. When I told him I was eating lots of aspirins, he immediately set up more tests. I was told that aspirin thins the blood even more than Dengue and that he was certain I had no ulcers because if I had ulcers, I would have bled to death. I posted this to let you know that if you contract this very painful condition, DO

The equivalent of wanker would be a jerk-off using U.S. slang. I don't often hear the word minger used but when I have it was pronounced with a soft G as like minjer. I know that is contrary to the English dictionary pronunciation because I did look it up.

I like whinger because it fits MANY people on this board. It has a much better sound than whiner.

A friend of mine has a fairly large convection oven. He cooks everything from turkeys to pizza in it. It can easily be moved and will sit on a counter top. As for myself, I have a gas BBQ from Doc in Udon Thani. It has an insulated hood and is suitable for baking. With both burners on low, it holds 150 C. If not for my BBQ, I'd definitely buy a convection oven. I had a cheap small oven and it was pretty much useless. No insulation at all.

New fabulous 141 sqm oceanfront View Talay 7 condo for vacation rental
Gary replied to Phuket_Butterfly's topic in The Market
It looks like a very nice place, EXCEPT, for that second bedroom. The guy who gets the master bedroom would be quite happy but the guy who gets the second bedroom will feel like he got screwed. At 141 square meters, I would have thought that the second bedroom would at least be usable. Whoever designed the floor plan had their head up their ass. -
The water supply seems to be a minor problem. You could secure your own supply by buying a pump and a tank and have the water delivery truck fill the tank when needed. I wouldn't think that a bar would need a huge amount of water. Less than 20,000 baht would have you up and running.

Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule
Gary replied to BigDUSA's topic in Idle Chit Chat
I'm one of those capitalist types. Competition is good. I have to say that I'm pleased to see some of the smaller aircraft companies building efficient 100 plus seat aircraft. It's entirely possible that while Boeing and Airbus squabble, these smaller companies will eat their lunch. -
Send your daughter to the podunk post office and have her ask the postmaster how to track it because you didn't get it. In that size of a town, he'll probably remember sending it. I doubt many packages from there get sent to Thailand.
-
If it was shipped regular mail versus USPS priority mail, you'll be lucky is you ever get it. I've had regular air mail letters opened. Usually they had a card and a letter in them so were thicker than a normal letter. I assume the thief was checking to see if they contained money. The envelope was torn just enough for them to see what was in it.

Did you get a tracking number? You can use the tracking number to see where it is at.

Google Chrome on www.pattayatalk.com
Gary replied to Severn's topic in Technical problems or questions.
I use Win 7 Pro and Chrome crashes on a regular basis. I uninstall and reinstall and that has never helped. IE and Firefox have no problems. The Chrome crashes are random and happen on most web sites. I do like Chrome and am still waiting for a fix. -
Actually the USPS shipped items took not more than ten days. I am pleased with their service. The cost is not much different from FedEx so the shipping savings is minimal. This last FedEx shipment took a couple of extra days because they needed a copy of my Passport. That's bullshit too. I bought a $300 pressure cooker from Australia shipped via regular mail and there was no tax at all.

The facts are that Boeing and Air Bus both have their fingers up their asses and spend more time bickering than building aircraft. The future demand for new planes seems to be beyond the capacity of both companies together. I think the future demand will be for more economical smaller lighter and faster planes rather than for huge expensive monsters. Smaller planes, more destinations with smaller airports seems to make sense, at least to me. From the Bangkok Post; Airlines will need 30,900 new jets worth 3.6 trillion dollars (2.8 trillion euros) by 2029 to meet an increase in globa -
What I want to know is why does FedEx get such a BIG tax and service charge and USPS has a much more reasonable charge. Here is the example; In the past year I bought two Garmin GPS units. One was bought from a seller who refused to use USPS and insisted on FedEx. The other was bought from a seller who agreed to ship via USPS. Both units were around the $200 - $250 price range. The FedEx unit was taxed at more than 2,000 baht or about $62.50. The unit shipped via USPS was taxed 320 baht or about $10. No one can tell me that FedEx is not in bed with Thai customs. In the future, I'll do

For your information; I just received an order of vitamins from the US. The declared value was $35 US. I was charged 1,272 baht taxes (About $39.75 US). The worst part is that I ordered vitamins from Australia the last time and there was no tax. The last item shipped from the US via USPS item also had no tax. The last thing before this that was shipped via FedEx was taxed at 30 percent. I have learned my lesson and will never use the FedEx thieves network again.

Are there girls at The Pattaya Beer Garden?
Gary replied to PattayaPete's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Last Saturday a friend and myself were there. I was amazed that the farangs were outnumbered by the girls. Whatever Pete did must have worked. I have never seen that many girls there.
