On paper, EVA and thai Economy seating pitch is the same, 33/34". A girlfriend travelled with EVA in Economy and wasn't too impressed with the food or anything else for that matter. Thai are ok, at least food wise. No seatback TVs on either airline's economy cabin. I flew with Cathay Pacific.. Let's just say they had an off day.

I ,am not enamoured of the rooms around the pool. Though the new rooms facing the pool are all fine, for the price. The location of Ma Maison, closer to the beach, is unaffected by construction noise, as far as I noticed.

Yes, the newly built block may be preferable. Some of the older rooms, around the pool have a damp smell, though your description is a gross exaggeration. IMO.

There is also a weekly price and a monthly price. Don't let them fob you off. Book the first night and discuss your discount when you arrive. It was something like 7000 baht for the single room monthly.

Cheers John Travelwise, I spend at least six to nine months annually on 'leisure' travel. Since I have to pay for my own flights, I do my research. :) I've been spending around six months a year in SE Asia, so I've absorbed a little. I'm still young enough to learn new tricks though.
