Going to Pattaya net weekend can anybody help with the directions to the bar?

Looks great but a dumb question. Where is the bar. All I know is that it is not on Walking Street. Can you give me some detailed instructions on how to get there from the Soi 7 area? Thanks

I have never had anything but fast and efficient service at the embassy. I go there once or twice a year and they are helpful. If you think the prices are high ask some of your Brit friends what they pay for various services such as registering a child.

A lot of what you are looking for is available at the Villa Market on Sukhumvit Soi 39 in Bangkok. It is expensive though. After you have been here awhile a lot of the Thai food that tourists get off on starts to taste the same and gets very boring. I make many trips to the Villa to stock up on western foods.

I wouldn't think of "The View" as an upscale place. Thai's have upscale and "wrecked" places too. I refer to the better type in my prior post. View Talley has a real mix of westerners: some are nice normal guys while others are the dregs of their home country. I say again -- overpriced. This is an example of a westerner who paid too much for a condo and therefore has to find another westerner who will also pay too much to take it off his hands and give him a profit. This is what pushes up the prices for westerners. If he had to sell to a Thai he would get somewhere between 850 - 1000.

The location is ok but who wants to live their life in one room the size of a hotel room? Probably should be priced in the 900-1000 range. That would be the Thai price.

Probably a misprint. From the rates that I have gotten 34,000 per year is more likely the premium. That would be for a participant in the 50 - 60 age range. Not bad prices through Thai Visa. Are you sure about that room charge? I recently was in a nice private hospital in Bangkok (not Bumrungard) and paid less than 2000 per day for a beautiful private room which was like a studio apartment with a small kitchenette and sitting area. My whole bill including surgery, anesthesia and all of the little charges plus 5 days in the hospital and follow up visits was less than 60,000

I don't have the computer facilites to set up anything that has been mentioned here, but I would be interested in a sattelite dish if any would pick up the aforementioned American sports, particularly football (college and pro) and basketball (college). Does anybody know of such a system?

Correct on this. The Universities are the lowest payers in the education system. Government High Schools pay more and of course International schools are the highest.

My advice would be to never use any rental agent. He represents the owner and tries to get him the highest price and therefore the highest commission. 14,000 or 15,000 does sound high. Perhaps a falang price. Have a Thai lady or man friend contact the woner and get a price for you before you are ever seen. Just my opinion and yes opinions are like..................!

Gabor That is a million and a half for a small one room condo. I would find it hard to live like that. In Bkk the same 1.5 million would get you a 65-70sqm 1 bedroom condo. A 40sqm studio goes for about 800,000 where I live. I don't think that it is just you but the prices in Pattaya are really out of line!

I am not a UK citizen but just had a friend return from the UK where he planned to visit family and get treated for a hernia that needed repair. He has lived here for over seven years now. He went to Manchester where he used to live and tried to get set up for the surgery. He was told that he would have to pay for it. He came back without setting it up and is paying for it in Thailand since it is cheaper here.

I have a friend in Singapore who just bought a new BMW. He paid about S$30,000 (one time) for his certificate which allowed him to buy a car and then paid about 2 1/2 times the US price for the car itself because of taxes and import tariffs. He also had to rent a place to park the car and show proof of this to get his certificate. The parking spot was not cheap. Also, no car over 10 years old is allowed on the road. This is how Singapore controls the number of cars on the road. They have a great public transportation system and have few traffic jams. That is what they want.

Treated extremely well. Since a Falang is a bit of a novelty here, people go out of their way to meet me and they don't have the negative impressions that Thais who live in the areas that foreigners party in have. Everybody aways wants to fix me up with a female friend. Even the married females want me to meet their friends. The key in the suburbs is to be polite, don't wear shorts or tank tops, get a haircut when needed but not a headshave and don't throw money around like you are rich. Pay local prices and everyone is happy.

I live in the Chatujak area. Once you know your way around, a 14 baht bus (5-10 minutes)and a 45 baht BTS fare to anywhere that I want to go in Bangkok. The fare to Pattaya is around 100 baht. Taxis are available but cost more and are no quicker. Bangkok is huge. If you stay away from the Falang Ghetto, prices are really moderate and you can meet a lot of women who are not from the bar scene.

50,000 is doable. I live in Bangkok and my monthly expenses run between 40 and 60 per month including a trip home once or twice a year. I have also withdrawn enough to have three months expenses available in my Thai account in case of a problem with my ATM card. I have been doing this for 4 years now and never a problem. My US bank (Netbank) does not charge for ATM use so no fees also!

If what you are saying is that you would have paid the same price in your condo to buy from a Thai as you paid from a falang then both could have been jacked up since in both cases you are a falang. The foreigner had to charge a high price to get his money out of it and the thai jumped on board to get a bigger profit. The key question on all of these transactions is if you had to move, would a Thai who is looking to buy for personal use pay you what you paid for it?
