  1. We call that a back-handed compliment in 'GB'...... Still don't blame you........Don't blame you for anything after the video you've just posted on the Alcatraz thread, thanks! As it is, I saw that Australia are saying the 'return' on investment for the GB team in 2012 beats their 'return' in 2000. France have done well and probably would have invested more than you're saying and have done even better had they hosted the games this year. Who knows? Great Pole-vote last night! Congratulations.
  2. Eric Idle is going to be leading the crowd at the Olympic closing ceremony in, "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life" It's a song that gets around. I read that during the Falklands War the crew of a Royal Navy Destroyer sat on deck singing it while they waited for the order to come to abandon ship.
  3. I'm not sure but I think a lot of our medal hopes get big grants these days But nothing compares to China who have an aim to win every single medal in 2020. Not just every Gold........EVERY MEDAL!! The online article, "Click at the Olympics" or something, had a link to another article which I'm giving the gist of as accurately as I can. It went along these lines....... ....................The Chinese State can do whatever it takes to show through sporting success, the superiority of it's political system. It targets first the less well funded minority sports. Pouring money and
  4. I'm into all this nostalgia. I often order stuff from Amazon to be sent to my brother's address. I go back to London once or more a year depending on who's died....... By the time I get there I've long forgotten what I've ordered and it's like Christmas morning opening all the packages. The recent winners have been, Steptoe and Son, Callan, Yes Prime Minister..........All of which really hold up and still surprise. The top of this last batch however was the film, "School for Scoundrels' ..........It's still so funny!
  5. Normal service has been resumed....USA back at the top! The Chinese will hate that! Australia are coming on.......Good to see they give us (England not the other GB countries) such a hard time but I always feel sorry for them when they lose because they always try Gow sip sip % Have to mention the 'lady boxers' fantastic! I badly need a good nights Kip .......... I'll take it after Sunday's closing party.... Ray Davis Spice Girls and all the 'Sirs' no doubt.
  6. Yes "roll 'em out hit 'em up. Was "Wish bone" the cook or was that "Wagon Train" ?
  7. I read a few days ago that Yorkshire would be 9th in the table if they'd competed independently.
  8. Just read an article on why sand doesn't stick to the, 'beach volley ballers'. I mean, if you've ever shagged on a beach you'll know it gets everywhere right?...... .......I remember my last time.... the girl, 'on top' and me gradually losing all purchase as my heels dug themselves lower and lower into the sand.........I was digging sand out of my arse all night. Well the answer to the question is ..............'special sand' apparently. Grains not too big, and not too small. Didn't mention what it's like to shag on....I bet someone knows though!
  9. Cheyanne Cheyanne where will you be camping tonight?..... Bronco, Bronco tearing across the Texas Plain. Bronco, Bronco .....Bronco Lane And even to this day when in the Olympics some Korean bugger draws back on his bow. I have to stop myself going ..."Da dan da dan dada dan dan dan dang DANG DANG DAAAAANG."..Arrow shudders in the centre of the target and Dick James (who made a fortune out of the Beatles) Starts into "Robin Hood Robin Hood riding through the glen....." Robin Hood was a Scotsman you see......not surprised they're everywhere!! ....And didn't Lucy always have ...."som
  10. Seriously......I'm up for the USA .....can you get your finger out! From the former nation of 'Plucky losers' We're saying, 'Go USA' and in the words of 'The Boris'......."Bring home the bling"
  11. Bloody swimming..... OK we all need to know how to swim... But why swim like a butterfly? You ever see a butterfly swim? And as for the synchronized swimming I tuned in and thought the cast of 'Riverdance' were drowning! No we need more running races...Egg and Spoon, Wheelbarrow, sack races. That would be the way to go. Funny Walk Race Tom..? He'll find the clip!
  12. Well done the Aussies up to 11th with 4 golds now. I just heard that the Australian sports minister has promised to row the length of the Eaton lake if Australia finish below Britain in the medal table. Good sports these Aussies!
  13. I don't think I could ever forget old Joe. Haven't spotted miss Paraquay yet! You may have to post another photo if you're not busy in the pool backstroking!! By the way who was that georgeous East German 400m runner? She looked a bit like Michelle Pheiffah (sp) ??
  14. It's the womens javelin that means the lady from Paraguay. time to put this iPhone away and settle down. I might pull the curtains for this. !!!
  15. I'm very happy that you seem to have dropped your silly running backwards comparisons and the false claim that the number of individual freestyle events is repeated for the other strokes. As for the number of aquatic events in the interests of fairness I included all the sports that could be reasonably considered aquatic and not on which body administers them which seems a little pedantic. You do have a point about the number of gold medals a relatively small number of swimmers can accumulate and the skewing effect this can have. Though when I extrapolated this from what you'd written ea
  16. I dealt earlier with the amount of duplication within the different sports, and that it's, (in my opinion) unfair to single out swimming in this respect. Further your..... "-and repeat this for 200m, 400m etc etc' is wrong and misleading. Back, breast and butterfly are only competed individually over 100m and 200m there is NOT an, .... 'etc etc'. Once again the same misleading comparison. You're right about 'freestyle'...... Thank you for high-lighting my point regarding the 'front-crawler's' employment of the butterfly body and kick to his advantage in the 'freestyle' El
  17. Can't edit the format of above post on my iPhone. I'll attend to it tomorrow after golf. Not to waste a post I'm really pleased for Andy Murray. The best achievement in British tennis in living memory.
  18. Except that they don't repeat for each stroke. There are 6 individual free style events but only 2 for each of the other strokes. Your post is misleading. There are 18 swimming events and I think 24 track and field events I include the throwing and throwing and throwing and throwing events and the jumping and jumping and jumping and just for a change vaulting events. Duplication everywhere......I celebrate it. However you still get the gold medal for "ducking and diving"
  19. Olympic times Men's 100m Front Crawl...47.05 Men's 100 Butterfly............50.58 So can't deny that front crawl will get you to the end of the pool first. ........Though in the cause of natural fairness and purity of comparison ... If the winner of the men's 100m F/C above was NOT allowed to employ the butterfly legs and body from the entry dive and in exiting from his tumble-turn there wouldn't be as much in it. Anyway that's not my point. Tom, (correct me if I'm....'not getting it' ), is suggesting that there is too much unnecessary duplication in the swimming events a
  20. I sort of get what you're saying...... The technical and physical demands of swimming say, front-crawl over 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500m are more or less the same...and this contrivance is multiplied if different strokes are employed........ Butterfly being the same as back-stroke and breast-stroke.... I get it! A bit like the running races on the track...... Bolt could just as easily do the 10,000m as the 100m or the marathon.... Or the steeple chase, or the hurdles. And 'If' you're gonna have hurdles why have 110m and 400m it's the same thing right? And those bloody b
  21. Talking of 'ponderisation'..... Choosing between the best of 2 evils...... It's a bit like telling a Daily Mail reader that, 'paedophiles are the natural food of illegal immigrants...' I'm faced with 'ponderisation' daily........... ......I never support Serena......and I never support the lady 'grunters' on court . So faced with a choice between the two and after due ponder....switched channels and watched another event. Watching the team 'Fencing finals' betwen China and Korea......Don't want China to overtake The USA at the top of the medals table ....but don't want Korea to o
  22. I predicted a GB win in the penalty shoot out on the, 'roulette wheel theory'...after 6 straight reds you think you'd put your (generic) house on black. I was wrong to equate shoot-outs to having anything to do with luck....... Now another generation has been psychically damaged. ......and I'll keep my mouth shut in future and accept full responsibility.
