  1. Ludicrous! I heard these rumors too over several years. Let's look at facts. They are moving Beer Bars etc away from the beach front and 2nd Rd thoroughfare so as to not "offend" the family tourists. The new multi-story car park Bali Hei is nearly finished. The new marina construction is well underway. Take a look at some of the developments going on on Soi Buakhao. The likes of Tony and Ratanakorn are investing big in this area. Agreed it will take some time, I also don't think all of what we know Walking St for will dissapear, however I think there will be more of a shopping mall and hotels in the future. A lady whome I have never met before has moved from walking street to where our second bar is in the Blue Rahtree Complex and stated her reasons for moving as summarized above. She quoted a time scale of 2 years, I think more like 5. Although people may have leases for 3 or 5 + years lets not forget if city hall wanted to move more quickly they could just refuse to renew a license.
  2. Was in the Irish Clock 2 nights ago, staff bad attitude, couldn't care less. Food was ok but don't know about the accommodation can't imagine they would charge a joiner fee as it would reduce their client base to around 10%, also considering it is more or less next door to Day Night Cplex...
  3. It is not as simple as that as each individual case may be different! i.e. does the farrang have a Non Im 'B' visa. For me I already had the B visa also I had a complication where I had not been resigned correctly from my previous company. Not an issue for me although added more time (money) for the new owner to take me out of the shares and resign my position, which incidently left him liable for the tax on the salary which I was supposedly being paid even after the sale. For a Thai to set up a company the cost could be as low as 5000B. If you as a farrang can trawl your way through all the paper work fine, but for me I chose to have a lawyer take care of it all, even including obtaining the music, tabacco, alchohol and bar setup licenses as this was then done in my new company name. I chose this route due to a bad experience previously. So pick a number! you can probably find "Lawyers" offering to set up company and work permits for as little as 50,000B, in my mind that is too cheap, lets not forget also that its not just the initial setup of the comapny and licenses etc. but then the ongoing costs e.g. VAT, your tax liability, employees, book keeping costs etc. Each employee running at a minimum of around 1800B per month depending on declared salary. In any case for a small bar these costs are high. For me I just wanted peace of mind and no hassle. I am running these business to make a living not to make a fortune! I am sure there are people here with far more experience than myself in this field, I only have 2 small bars and a food place and never more than 10 people employed at any one time. For the larger bars/go go's I couldnt even guesstimate! OH as a PS, I setup the company so I could include my partner/wife as a shareholder. I wanted her to have an investment, and not so as to protect myself so to speak. In my short but eventfull time here I have learnt it is not the Thais for me that you should be cautious of but the farrang business wise ;-) Paul
  4. The new 2 floor complex nect to Action Street... Party for B on Friday 6th July from 8 on, Music and Free food, everybody welcome... Hope this is the right place to post else, sorry in advance...
  5. I did not mention insurance to the BiB, infact maybe I should have included the fact that aside from my previous comments I do "by a drink" fort local bobby, I think it's a given here. Bet to have a friendly copper at the end of a phone when you need him! Also I realized a longtime ago that establishments of the a go go variety will attract more of the unwanted attention regardless if you are a far rang or Thai owner. I sold my share of a company last year but decided to have another go at something thus the thread, starting from scratch is expensive at least for me, everything is taken care of through my lawyer. Paul
  6. Hi and thanks for your reply. Only have space for a 3 piece + singer I think! Budget, I have given some thought, we would usually pay around 4000 to 5000B for the Thai sing-along however this is my birthday and I want to do something different. Didn't know we had a BM band member! Can you do Thai tunes as well? Cheers Paul
  7. Rock Band needed for Birthday in a beer bar Soi Buakhao, must be able to play Classic rock and Thai music. Please send demo mp3's or let me know where you are playing also costs' etc. email: me@relaxcornerbar
  8. Firstly this is not a dig at any particular side either whether working through a company or as an individual... I am interested to know other BM opinions. As a small business owner like myself it has not been cheap going down the Legit route, i.e. Setting up your company, registering for tax, obtaining a work permit, paying your staffs tax and insurance contribution and last but not least the tax of my salary whether I am able to acheive it or not! Running a business here for some sectors is hard work. For me I have the attitude that I am not neccesarily here to make money but more to make a living. That said I am interested to know peoples thoughts on farrang who may side-step. I am not interested in slagging people off so no names etc. but do wonder and sometimes find myself thinking why I hadnt just kept my head down! Having said that I do like being able to relax and not look over my shoulder when in my bar or cafe... Cheers Paul
  9. the rooms are well laid out with very nice decour, large and most with a sofa/small seating area. the bathrooms are very nice glass walled.
  10. Interesting! Thai internet speeds are unreliable at the best of times, is this service streamed via a Thai server? Cheers
  11. Big warehouse behind big C north pattaya second road by the differ club. Half the price of lukdod and you can buy anything from an elephant to a table!
  12. The Hollywood style sign is overlooking the harbor by Bali Hei Pier. The sign is mounted on the side of the hill by the Big Buddha. Not a lot going on down there except when they have a concert at the pier or if you enjoy watching the speed boats getting dragged out of the water. There is or used to be a good little Thai restaurant just after the light house, great place for food and a beer around sunset.
  13. True, although I am not looking at making huge profits but just ticking over. Will be charging Thai prices for food and the like and very unlikely that anyone else will go to the trouble of renting a beer bar to sell food, well at the moment! In around 14 to 16 days time we will open so will let you all know whats happening... Paul
  14. Thank you very much guys, was a bit wary about posting but your replies have reassured me... will let you know as opening in around 2 weeks... Paul
  15. Have gone an done it! But think maybe, with a little work this could succeed. Having sold my share in a shop on soi 16 have been looking for something to do. A challenge and a chance to try something new. I was looking initially for a coffee/beer bar however after some looking an talking to my long term GF decided on a new beer bar complex which when full will have 48 bars. I was thinking of opening a bar and found an empty unit with plenty of floor space for pool and tables but decided not to go down that route. Instead will be opening a Thai food and coffee bar inside the complex. Although predominantly Thai food we will also sell far rang food. With approx 250+ ladies it is them that I am looking at as my customer base with the farrang as a bonus. Incidentally the cost to set up for food is the same as for beer and we will not be selling alcohol just food, fruit shakes, ice coffe and the bon cafe machine for the hot latte etc. was even given a discount on the rent and ingoing as I was not selling beer.
  16. Confirmed bars closed 8, 9 and 10... Some may chance it. Best thing go to your local coppers bar he will be open quietly for sure!
  17. I have not written or stated in my post that I am or have an interest in any business here and neither do I state that I am an astute businessman. You are the person whom is making claims as to the validity of your claims, how would I know? I am not selling or looking for business from people on an internet forum where I know little about most of the members or indeed their business interests. You have made your reasons for posting public and therefore I posted a reply. Further more I do not proclaim to know anything about your business and would be very unlikely to do any business with someone who is touting for business on a forum, much like I would not consider replying to an email from General Mugabe second removed asking me to help him move his gold bullion! Banks are more than happy to lend to a business with a proven track record, sound business plan and assets but you would know that wouldnt you. The thing that surprised me was the manner in which you started this topic... Serious enquiries only... If you had posted an introduction and made a small presentation and maybe some links to credible sources directly linked to you, say a website, other clients, a sample of your portfolio then at least that would have given us something to go on. I will not continue as it will lead to more mud slinging, pointless... enough said...
  18. Sorry but have to add... As a respected businessman you have posted an opportunity that seems to good to be true, with your experience you will know that an internet forum is not the place to market such proposals, more over people in the know or that may invest on a regular basis wont give you the time of day. A legitimate properly licensed company would be using there website, email marketing through mailing lists and local or international advertising to market such products. Your company would certainly generate enough revenue to afford such costs, if not how are you able to offer such a high ROI ? Hooray to the above PM for posting what I think most of us are thinking. Most of us here are even wary of placing investments with EU banks even though we have so much in the way of protection! Risk V Gain! Gain too little.... Gain to high... When it looks too good to be true it generally is... Paul
  19. Hi I have just sold my CBR 250R and bought a Yamaha FZ6 600 inline 4 cylinder and am in need of a good mechanic to change the timing chain and tensioner. Could anyone recommend a mechanic who is up for the job and knows what he is doing? Your usual Mityon Yamaha type dealers wont have a clue believe me! Cheers Paul
  20. Visited Spankys' for the first time last night and met Scott. Very good atmosphere and enthusiastic lady's, all very friendly and they even have shows! Scott is very friendly and is generally on hand for any questions you may have. There were 1 or 2 girls that I would have BF if I had time. Will return soon. Cheers Scott PAul
  21. Sorry of someone has already posted, on I phone and struggling to read through. Attentive, good attitude, polite staff and on an on is what attracts customers. Not the 4 Million refit, not the Bangkok models, not the ice blue solid cut marble bar but plain old customer service with a smile. Even in these hard times there are plain old beer bars with a few 5 out of 10 bar girls pulling close to what some of the quieter walking street bars are! Don't get me wrong I like a nicely decorated bar/go go but at the end of the day it's atmosphere that sells beer and lady's. Paul
  22. I would checkout Big C Pattaya Klang and Tuk.com on Pattaya Tai or specifically IT Superstore on the 5th floor. Paul
