That was my experience with my UK licence, however it's changed I was there the other week ad an English truck driver was shouting he has driven for 30 years. He was told to got to embassy in UK and then thye will accept the UK licence if he best it transalated to Thai , otherwise he has to apply as a non driver with all the tests that's required.
