  4. I figure I could learn a lot from this guy.
  5. Seen this one a few times. Still can't get my head around it.
  6. Yeah, 1200 used to be cheap. 1500 is an average price for that one I'd say. Shitty layovers tho.
  7. Just booked for Oct. Toronto to JFK to Narita to Bkk for $900 USD on JAL. Never seen it so low. Toronto to New York and back is usually $350 or so on it's own.
  8. I often get sick on my hols in Thailand but the Pattaya cough seems to be a thing of the past for me. I still get the shits, food poisoning and eye infections etc but not the cough, not lately anyway. I'd say that I used to stay in shitty hotels ~100% of the time but now that's down to about 50% of the time.
  9. I've had delayed bags 3 times in the past 5 years (12 trips?). Always outgoing rather than returning which is a bit strange. Once I could directly attribute it to American customs at Pearson (YYZ). They didn't have enough staff so my flight was delayed as no one (except me) boarded in time. I barely made my connection in SFO but my bags didn't make it.
  10. I've often read where people fly without checked luggage. Can't imagine doing that myself. On the other hand, I often read about people with multiple bags checked. Can't really fathom that either. One big bag checked as well as a carry on and computer bag as well as another smaller purse type bag is more than enough for me even for a 2 month holiday. I don't mind the airlines charging other people money if it keeps my ticket price down. First class helps subsidize economy after-all. BTW, United sucks but not as much as American.
  11. I guess it all comes down to what you are used to paying at home. For example, two big bottles of Chang costs 100 baht at a 7/11 whereas one medium can of beer in Canada costs ~70 baht at the government liquor store. Almost all items cost less in the LoS compared to what I pay at home. I was in BKK not too long ago and was trying to kill an afternoon so I went to see the latest Captain America film. I guess I hit a special price as it was only 100 baht at terminal 21. That's less than 4 bucks for a new big budget release. My budget back home would go much further in Thailand. Keep in mind insu
  12. Any more than 3 hours and I'm pulling my hair out. Can't imagine drinking or sleeping as I already do that on the long, long flight. As a kid I could spend hours on end at an arcade. Dunno why airports don't have them.
  13. Went to Tikka centre last week. Bland, bland bland. About 1200 baht for 4 with 2 cokes and our two girls with us ordered basic Thai dishes. Nothing to recommend here.
  14. I'd imagine the most common problem is unnecessary tests. I had a bug in Manila and the doc ordered an ultrasound. The technician was asking me over and over again why the doc ordered the test. He said I had a hernia. The bill for the test was the biggest expense of all including the doc's charges. Antibiotics were the fix and I had to insist on them on a subsequent visit.. There must be a kickback or minimum procedures expected. Who better than a rich foreigner to get the bucks from?
  15. Ministry covers Skinny Puppy. Oh, to be at Guantanamo.
  16. I'm happy for them. Hopefully there wasn't a falang surcharge.
  17. I have only ever visited the Rutnin hospital due to an eye infection (I'm not the typical eye patient). I was seen straight away, diagnosed properly and it was cheap. Too bad I hear nothing but bad things about other hospitals. Makes one wonder if India or the Czech Republic are better destinations for medical tourists .http://www.rutnin.com/eng/
  18. The Miracle (or the place just beside it, can't recall the name) newish, cheap, close to LK Metro. 800 baht a night is possible just don't book with Agoda etc. http://www.agoda.com/en-ca/miracle-house/hotel/pattaya-th.html?dsrch=1&cki=080214&cko=100214&asq=t%2fV5gbG7JDKdeUPmBpwJYY5XrNDYAsPAxAYvY0BSUuV5PPrBrr%2bada%2fFAoREfcFIueqqUc%2bIxdwgsrqHfN2NMqJ1Ue3TmolGuT77K%2f47p3YEstUj%2bfUgAz4cPIgRyQE%2bcxzA%2frq1gBGwcz8Aukwvwg%3d%3d It's a 3-4 min walk to Buakhao and Diana. edit... Ask for a room in the back and you wont hear anything whatsoever.
  19. AFE. The American Flight Experience. Read into that what you will.
