As a Brit/Aussie and with family residing in America , I quite like the US and its citizens - what I dislike is the one-eyed American view . The way they assume that they are always right , that they save the world from mistakes , and the way they interfere with other nations internal affairs to the point of arrogance . So it is not hate for the USA but just a dislike of attitude .

The Romans had the right idea - they built Hadrians Wall - for the Irish there was the Irish Sea whilst with the Welsh there was Offa's Dyke - Having said that , I served with all three and never had any bad experiences - in fact , some are still close friends - I even like Americans !

Pattaya Beach. OH! Goodness gracious me.
ozibill replied to teelack's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
They could use some of the 'Rip-off Farang' money to pay for a daily clean-up - that would still leave the City Fathers with a sizable sum for their pocket lining -
Heaven Body Massage And Lawn Bowls In Pattaya
ozibill replied to Dungheap's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
It is a bit late to reply to this thread but it is just to let members know that The Bowling Green in soi excite no longer exists - it is finished . -
Street numbering system in Pattaya
ozibill replied to short's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
My house number is 3/22 - it is in the middle of the soi , but it was the last development , it was a development of 5 houses , but for some reason they started the numbers at 22 , so there is 3/22 . 3/23 , 3/24 etc . But there is no rhyme or reason to the numbering - the house to the other side of me is 55/112 - there is one other house before you enter the soi is numbered 55/111 so as has been said , the numbering is an art form . There are housing the other side of 3/26 and they have a different sequence - there is no housing on the other side of the road . Even people who have lived he -
Posing with "Tame" Zoo Animals
ozibill replied to sabaidii2's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Animals are meant to be feral - they are not toys for us humans - asking an animal to conform to what we want is against their nature - so I say let them live their lives without expecting them to perform for us - do not pose with them or accept the possible consequences. -
For 40 years , I was a member of a very active Lions Club . Most of the members were pretty hardened drinkers , many were adulterers , nearly all were blasphemers and very few were regular church-goers - but they did more good for the needy in the area than all the churches put together . Actions speak louder than any words .

Being married to a Thai , I am guided by my wife as to which Thais need help and , in fact , leave it entirely to her - Personally , I support the Jesters at Jamesons - I help them with donations of books for their book stall at their fair and I attend their fund-raising events . That way , I feel I am helping the Thais from two directions - but I never personally give a hand-out to the street mendicants . My wife even warns me about some monks saying that they are not 'good monks' .

I can recommend The Caddy Shack - Keith, the guv'nor and his wife run a good bar and organize some great golf

anybody seen one of these bad boys?
ozibill replied to 9cisco999's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
My son has lived in LOS for 30 years and I understand from him that 3 wheelers are actually illegal here . I remember he thought about buying one when we saw one in the UK on a visit but abandoned it when he discovered this problem - he can afford the cost . -
Have you ever been stopped by Customs coming INTO Thailand ?
ozibill replied to chatkeow's topic in Idle Chit Chat
I have never been stopped or my bags xrayed - even when I moved here and arrived with 2 very overweight suitcases , but when my 2 crates arrived later , the customs people broke into both crates , fortunately not damaging anything but charged me 4000 baht duty . I made the mistake of addressing it to my son who is a PR , when I should have addressed it to myself apparently . -
Thanks Martin - so he is , in effect , a member that is viewing in secret

Reading a thread the other day , I noticed at the end that the thread was being viewed by myself (member) , no guests but 1 anonymous viewer . Surely it can only be a member or a guest - what is this about 'anonymous' ???

Thai Women and the medical profession in Thailand
ozibill replied to peckerwood's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
The first time I was treated by a female was 1944 and she was a dentist in the Royal Navy - And I think it was because the Services had to recruit women as Doctors, Dentists etc that the trend started then - since that time the ratio of women to men has been norrowing consistently - My last dentist in the UK was a lady , and my first in LOS was a lady - both were superb dentists . And yes , despite my age (or maybe because of it ) I fancied both of them . -
another bad experience with the Brits
ozibill replied to peckerwood's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I should think Peckerwood is laughing his head off over the various posts brought about by his original post . We have quite strayed from his original offensive reamark . He knows , to some degree , that he is wrong but you are giving him a lot of fun . Come on , Peckerwood , admit you posted this with your tongue in your cheek . After all , nobody could be that intentionally stupid -
I should first declare that I always travel Business Class , so there is not a great deal of difference in the service , therefore it comes down to convenience , comfort , and food . I used EvaAir mostly but now I prefer Qatar - the stop-overs are not too long and the lounge at Doha is very comfortable . I also think their food is first class.

another bad experience with the Brits
ozibill replied to peckerwood's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
You are right , of course - I should have said that wars are PERPETUATED by generalizing - my apologies -
another bad experience with the Brits
ozibill replied to peckerwood's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Lets see - 1. I am British 2. I am well over 50 3. I do not have tattoos 4. I do not rent accommodation - certainly not to ignorant people 5. I believe in fair play even with ignorant people But , according to ignorant Mr Peckerwood , I am a thieving , conniving , good-for - nothing - I have , in my many years , met people from most nations and found that there are good , bad , and indifferent from all countries , even the one that was the original home of the OP . Wars are usually started with people generalizing about a country . I fought against th -
I think I read somewhere that Tesco's principal distribution depot is inundated with flood water - that might explain their shortage problem

I use the barber on Soi Buckhaow near LK Metro - Its reasonable - 60 baht - and efficient - the girl is the best barber although the ladyboy is quite good as well

I thoroughly agree with everything u said - in fact , I would add that Lplita's has not only a grotty line-up but they are also distinctly unfriendly .

It took quite a while to teach my wife how to make creamy scrambled egg - she , by the way , doesn't like butter or marge (or hard cheese) - now when she prepares my eggs , she serves it to me on the plate with my hot toast on a separate plate and the butter dish by the side - I spread my toast myself and then put the egg on the toast - problem solved.

If you hired a car for 2 weeks , wouldn't you object if some-one , not a friend , hopped in and drove it around for a couple of hours . ????

I agree with the OP - My son , who has lived in the LOS for nearly 30 years and remembers Pattaya when it only consisted of Beach Road and half of Second Street lives outside Pattaya now but he has invested in a large Condominium at the south end of Patts . He has also withdrawn from 2 bars that he had an interest in to leave him with more scope for high-end property . I think in the future ex-pat mongering will develop more into the Dark Side ,
