  1. I know what I would do but that's me so there is no point in going into too much detail. At 11 pm I would simply tell him to go away a and we will discuss things in the morning. I moved to guest houses a few years ago with the understanding that you are taking a few chances with almost no security checks on guests, risks of security with things in your rooms and a general lack of facilities, To offset these issues you should be paying a lower rate but I recommend doing some research and getting a recommendation. In many cases the guest house isn't licensed so they are taking a chance on you as well and in a situation like this the trouble to kick you out at 11pm is more than its worth. I admit that i'm surprised that the police were called unless he was a friendly wanting a tip.
  2. Thanks for the explanation. You can also get a baht bus down Pattaya Tai which turns down Buakhao to saves the walk down Soi Dianna but I have always been too pissed to work out which bus is which. I wish they had signs but I end up heading down to 3rd road every time I try it..... I have to improve my Thai language skills. PS this is a great place to learn more about, There are fantastic places to get food along Pattaya Tai as well as a few specialty shops.
  3. Getting to Walking street is a no brainer. There is a Baht bus every two minutes down Soi Buakhao. Getting home is not that bad either, You simply jump on the bus to Mikes shopping mall and walk down Soi Dianna. There is a lane next to Mike’s with all the tattoo guys if you are coming from Beach Rd. I tell the girls I am grabbing BBQ if they arc up about a sort walk. One thing about Thai girls they hate to walk but they love their food.
  4. One of the things that I think is wrong with the olympics is when the rich countries have to show there opulence to all the other countries. Its like they are buying their medals. A classic example involves the US Basketball teams. They are too good to stay in the athletes village but instead have chartered a luxury cruise liner for the team We are not talking about a big powerboat but a ship with 196 rooms. It has its own pool and even a cigar lounge. The story has it that some team members have been sledging players from other countries. Now I know that the US has the best team and they will get a medal just by turning up but I think this somehow spoils the spirit of the olympic games.
  5. That time has come around again. The Olympics start on Saturday and I’m planning to settle in to watch some of the finest athletes in the world strut their stuff. It is winter in Perth and outside it is cold and wet so I am happy to stay in. Each night I will cook a plate of comfort food and settle down to watch events that I would probably never watch. You know the ones I mean. Things like the gymnastics, synchronised swimming. beach volley ball, archery, track cycling and many others will appear on my TV and I’ll watch them because it he olympics. Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the programmers who take all the feeds and decide what I want to see but perhaps this is part of the fun. I suddenly become an expert in so many sports that I have never seen before and in the privacy of my lounge room I can imagine myself competing in each event. I will admit that I am not too happy with the inclusion of main street sports like soccer being classed as an olympic event because my TV seems to have some type of soccer tournament on each week and there are so many other events that should get airplay at this time. In Australia our media is obsessed with gold medals so we get coverage of sports that we do well in such as swimming, rugby or cricket. This often means we don’t see the table tennis, fencing or wrestling but we can hope for a few crosses during quiet times. I looked up some events that we don’t see anymore, Jeu de Paume, Pankration and underwater swimming would all be interesting events. Who wouldn’t want to see the 200 meter swimming obstacle race and bring back the tug o war if you ask me. Of course the strongest, fastest and highest sports will still rate a mention and I love watching as athletes compete in events that they have trained for 8 years to get to this point. There will be drama, there will be excitement and there will be disappointment. I jut hope that in the end the winners will be the sports themselves. What more can we say? Let the games begin.
  6. That is true but people coming from Brisbane are a bit touched in the head. That being said they do play rugby in winter and the ave temperature is 15 degrees (60 degrees f). Bangkok on the other hand averages from 26 to 31 degrees.
  7. I admit that the thought of playing a rugby match in the heat of Thailand just seems like madness. I guess they must be used to it but to me it’s heart attack time.
  8. The big names are still jockeying for positions and it looks interesting. As an Aussie I am disappointed that Richie Porte can get so far behind based on getting a puncture but I guess thats bike racing.
  9. I have watched the movie and I was not very impressed. It does show some locations in Pattaya but nothing to get nostalgic about. There is one funny scene involving a ladyboy but unless you like Midget Muay Thai I couldn’t see much merit in the movie. I will admit my French is not great so much of the humour may have escaped me.
  10. Our TV screens are showing a slightly different image of the beaches and the tidal waves. A few tourists have been washed out to sea and drowned. Pictures from the news http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3642854/Two-tourists-die-rough-Bali-surf-wiped-TIDAL-WAVES-Seminyak-bars-including-Ku-Ta.html Echo beach
  11. Well just before the movie comes out, if there were any scenes from the Telephone Bar I would like to point out that she said she was 18 and on a personal note I was sitting under a cold air-conditioner. Cameras in Pattaya are dangerous.
  12. I get my printing done at Cherry Co in Soi 12. Its about 100 meters from second Road. Mostly they do embroidery but the girls were very accommodating and I think they can send things out if you want something different. Worth a phone call.
  13. "Perhaps someone versed in Thai could translate this sign. My guess is it's telling those interested the park cost 19 million baht and construction started in 2015 and will finish in 2017." It might say that the park and bike path is closed and trespassers will be fine19,058,023 baht. It looks like a great place for some exercise. Makes me think I would visit on my next trip but sitting at home in 27 degree comfort gives me a different mind set to a tropical 38 degree setting.
  14. I can understand that a conservative politician might feel that he should comment on a trend amongst young girls towards greater sexual liberation. I have noticed that wet T-shirts are becoming more prevalent at Songkran and yes its just the thin edge of he wedge. Whether this is right or wrong is debatable. In my personal opinion the girls never look more sexy than they do at the Loy Krathong festival when they dress in traditional costumes but I can appreciate that this is impractical for Songkran with the heat and water damage. I don’t mind when they wear the flower shirts tied at the waste because this can look very appealing but as usual some girls get carried away. The problem with the prime ministers comments is linking these actions with the behaviour of men. He is in fact blaming the women for the fact that men can’t control themselves. This is totally wrong but he is not the only person to do this. In India the male dominated establishment blames women who are raped just because they are there. Simply walking down the street is sufficient provocation to justify a gang rape and the legal system will support the rapists in most cases. Nothing will change until men are held accountable for their actions. In Australia we have Muslim clerics blaming young girls for dressing provocatively after a gang of young men are arrested for a rape. Although society demanded punishment the true criminals are the parents and clerics who justified their actions. Until this behaviour is condemned by their role models, nothing will change. In LOS we all know that sex is cheap and available everywhere so men who sexually assault women are not driven by lust but by a sense of entitlement or power. The Prime ministers message disagrees and he suggests that the victims need to accept some blame because they dress provocatively. This is wrong on so many levels but men who think this way will never be convinced. This attitude Is not restricted to Thais either. I have seen it in every bar I have visited in Pattaya when me think they are entitled to grope girls, just because they work in a bar. If only you could see the look on the girls face after a bear like paw has roughly reached out and grabbed a breast. Unfortunately they will never see it because they are so involved in their own importance they would never recognise the hatred on the faces of the girls who are forced to put up with this very day. Perhaps the prime minister has a good point regarding women's attire but before laying the responsibility on them he needs to make an attitude adjustment on the male population first
  15. I’m a little concerned about Man Boobs, Lets face it with the water fights and the hot weather it is likely that we will see various examples that may well contravene the Juntas orders,
  16. Try this place in Soi Lengkee...Great accommodation, cleanrooms and lovely staff. If you want a pool they will let you use the Vogue Hotel pool for 50 baht a time. Its just across the car park.
  17. All Blacks legend Jonah Lomu dead at 40 Far too young. He inspired the love of rugby in many people...if only he was Australian Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/all-blacks-legend-jonah-lomu-dead-at-40-20151118-gl1mjy.html#ixzz3rpTDW4AT Follow us: @smh on Twitter | sydneymorningherald on Facebook RIP
  18. Should be at 4pm gmt which makes it 11 pm in Pattaya.
  19. For us non soccer lovers , we watch in amazement when players take a dive looking for a free kick, In the greek league a couple of trainers appear to have had enough of this .
  20. Well done Aussies...Great game against a gallant Scotland. ....35 to 34.... Too bloody Close
  21. Can’t comment on the leagues game because I’m a Union guy. I had t stay up all night to watch this game and it was worth it. Don’t blame Burgess, the better team won. Big difference was in the scrum. Australia hasn’t done that well for a long time but this morning their scrum was great . Looking forward to matching up against the Welsh scrum next week to see how good they are.
  22. Good bye England.
  23. I’m going to suggest that he didn’t see this coming. https://youtu.be/UoSL_n2hboQ They are saying he is Polish but with a name like Izu Udonoh who knows. We might not be able to pronounce his name but we will remember this punch.
  24. found your article on Stickman but can’t see any books that include it. Can you give us a title or the author so we can see what other things have been lifted?
  25. It makes sense to follow the rules with regards to Visa’s. Tourist Visa Exemption Australian passport holders (and nationals from 50 designated countries) may travel to Thailand for the purpose of tourism without a visa. They will be permitted to stay for a period not exceed 30 days on each visit provided they arrive by air and have a confirmed ticket out of Thailand (by air, land, or sea) within 30 days. But those entering by land at the immigration checkpoints from neighboring countries, will be allowed to stay for 15 days on each entry. Please note as follow: 1. Passport must have at least 6 months validity upon entry. 2. Visitors who enter the Kingdom without visa cannot file an application for extension of stay. 3. Tourist Visa Exemption does not apply to foreigners holding Travel Document for Aliens. I assume that similar rules would also apply to USA. The airlines are held accountable for their passengers so I expect them to check passports before taking you to a place where you can’t stay.
