There are no good beaches in Pattaya

pay the 1200...or 2000 or whatever...you are on vacation...no fun spending hours in a van with a bunch of idiots who dont know where they are going, havent booked a hotel yet, have a room in the middle of the boonies.....get a good ride and get to Pattaya in about 2 hours in comfort, stopping if and when you want and being driven right up to the door of your place.

I get stopped about 50% of the time (keep in mind that arrival for me in Hawaii is about 0630 -so we are the first plane that the customs folks see) - so - there is no other planes to compete with and I am on a planeload of tourists coming to Hawaii. I have had times when I didnt get searched in 4 trips within one year and the next year got searched every time (3). Mine have been cursory searches....just kind of poking around the bag and asking irrelevant questions about where I work and what I do. Last trip I got sent to counter with a female working. She was polite, professional, asked some work related questions and then had me open my suitcase. She didnt know what to do with what she initially saw. All wires and cables - usually the last thing I pack cell phone charger battery charger for camera DVD cables and power cord usb cable for camera to TV hookup and probably a few more.....guess it looked strange with all the cables and no computer. so...she prodded a bit deeper in the bag and came up with a mystery package - mystery to her. I bought some Lux shower wash - the liquid stuff - as they dont carry that brand here and I like it. I had 4 containers of it Double-wrapped in plastic with rubber bands around it. She was feeling it and squeezing it and then peeled off the rubber band and had a look. She opened one and had a smell. and then told me to close it all up and move on. She never found the DVDs, lighter, camera with photos, and software. Guess I learned not to try and smuggle Lux body wash - only bring back enough for personal use.

I use this one Super Clean about 6 1/2 cents per minute ot a Thai cell you can look around the site - they have all kinds of cards

skip BKK and go straight to Pattaya

welcome aboard...read a lot, do searches and if you can't find an answer..aks questions

avoid "fresh" water fish and stick to ocean fish

no deals...oil is too high...booked for July and ticket price about 200 bucks more than usual....$880 from Hawaii to BKK..when it is usually about $650

Sent an email to Kuhn Toom last night and received a prompt reply when I woke up this morning. He answered all my questions and I have booked him for 28 Jul at 1600. I will also give my review on his service. So far, so good.

I have China Air miles - not Delta Miles. I know they code share but not sure if I can book a flight through Delta and then try to use CAL miles. Will have to check and see if I can transfer miles from CAL to Delta and use them. thanks Tentodo

used military hops looooong time ago and hopped from Hawaii to Thailand via Guam, Philippines, and Okinawa. Wasnt too bad if you dont mind flying in cargo planes, sitting backwards or on the side of the plane like a paratrooper, box lunches, one window the size of a small porthole, no alcohol, and no flight attendants (other than the supply/maintenance crew). Not sure about now, but you were only guaranteed on leg at a time and had to rush off the plane and re-register at each and every new airbase. If you are travelling with someone else - one may get on and the other may not. On the return we got bumped in the PI and had to buy a ticket from Manila to Honolulu. A good adventure overall and I had plenty of time and little money. I was about 22 at the time and in the military. Now it is the opposite....little time and decent money...so - unless you can handle possibly sitting around for days waiting for a ride...pay the airfare.

China only has coach and "Dynasty" - first class - no business class on this flight and for the buy one get one...would be with a buddy or my son also add to the equation - I have a good friend that works at China Air and I can get exit row seats all the way and back reserved in advance.

I have 103K miles with China Air whichi will be enough for a few upgrades from Hawaii to BKK or about 17K short of a "buy one and get one Free" ticket So what would you do A. - upgrade to first class for the 10 hour leg (Honolulu to Taipei) 30,000 miles B. - upgrade to first class from HNL to BKK - 45,000 C. - upgrade the round trip - 90,000 D. - earn 13,000 more miles which will still leave me about 4,000 short for the buy one get one free ticket I will be travelling in July and again in Dec - after Dec I would have enough for the buy one get one free decisions decisions thanks lar

Just got this a week or so ago.....MasterCard for China Air http://www.juniper.com/ they even put my frequent flyer number right on the card - so should be able to rack up some more miles this way
