  1. How could you assume prices would go down if they've gone every year since the Asian Tiger crisis passed? They have increased steadily, by the way; I did not make that up. You think there might be a change in retirement law? What is the basis for that statement? That seems preposterous to me.
  2. The only thing I believe you left out is this: If you buy a condo, you own it, and that means you would sell it at a higher price down the road, too. You'd have to look at the average rate of price increase over the last 5 or 10 years to see if ownership makes sense. You could also price your condo with a 10 or 15 year mortgage, then determine your monthly payment. You do not need to pay cash up front. All of this assumes you have the legalities in order, no small feat.
  3. 10 or 20 baht: 25 or 50 cents US? I would be embarrased to leave such a tip; I would skip the massage all togehter. You have got to to be fuckin' kidding me, you cheapskate; you're tighter than a clam's ass...
  4. you could always spend $12 US on a converter just to be sure; target sells them on-line
  5. Nice review; if any BM's have stayed there in the past 6 months, please posts a review. Thank you in advance, Mook
  6. BVP will be more quiet; that's what tips the scales for me...
  7. Looks like an industry piece designed to entice buyers. I'd like to see as many comps as possible and how long a condo stays on the market before even considering it. I'd also like to see the price range, and unsold inventory levels. This is what determines value: at what price a place trades, how long it takes to sell, & if it sold at it's offered price, above it, or below it.
  8. Put it off until after Labor Day and you can save some serious cash.
  9. 777 economy seats work for me, but I always take a small cushion with me (air filled) and that helps. I'm a smaller guy (5'7"...137 lbs.) so that may be a major factor.
  10. I still haven't seen the name of a real estate agent or their firm that anyone will recommend. Things that make you scratch your head.
  11. Check-in at Bradley Int'l terminal works that way because of TSA/DHS requirements. Weight of your bags is an issue because airlines like to avoid injury from falling bags (main concern) during flight and overall weight of the plane. I've never had a problem with a proper carry-on, and I usually have a backpack on, too.
  12. A VERY cool post.
  13. Take the skytrain, get on the front car. Exit @ Nana Station. If your bag is very large, flag a tuk tuk or taxi. Direct it to the Landmark Hotel. You can walk to Majestic Suites in 3 minutes. Mook
  14. Is that the airfare only? Airfares at that levels are not too rare. However, the taxes and fuel surcharge are now up to about $173 US Dollars per flight.
  15. Uncle Sam: Thanks for expanding on my response. I was assuming we were discussing an example where a person takes out an insurance policy with the intention of ending his/her life shortly after. Mook
  16. WhiteSpider: I wasn't speaking for the UK. I fly the US flag bcause I am a US citizen. In the USA the beneficiaries of suicides do not get paid. Thanks for the clarification. M
  17. No. Suicide makes an insurance policy void, and beneficiaries do not get paid. You can cash out some policies early. I cannot tell you which type, though.
  18. Lots of people can't shoot themselves, while more can take a jump. Also, it's easier and less risky than acquiring a gun, which would maybe tip off people who would stop you.
  19. Oct. is my favorite time to visit, by the way. It's warm in the morning, with clear skies mostly. By the time it starts getting too hot, you get an afternoon rainshower. Then it's a bit cooler as you head towards dusk. Also, lots of the girls are back in town, but high season is still 3 weeks away = less punters and more BGs. Works for me.
  20. PS. Another key is lifestyle. Try to live comfortably and be happy at a level moderately below your guaranteed income level. This will allow you to automatically build some principal over time, and help you weather stock market fluctuations. Remember, it's not getting what you want; it's wanting what you've got.
  21. You have to grow the principal moderately, using stocks. The key is to be disciplined by taking some of your profits and converting them to bonds, maintaining your asset allocation. You MUST review your account at least annually to achieve your goals. It would be better to do it twice a year, or even quarterly. That is the way you protect yourself by generating more income, locking in profit on your equity positions and giving yourself better downside protection over time.
  22. A solo trip is great. It's easy to meet people if you want to, but your time is truly your own. Try it, you might like it.
  23. not to the cameraman.
