Go to markets with a digital camera, take pics of crappy souveniers. Put the pics on ebay. After some idiot buys, go to the market, pick up whatever crappy knick-knack they just paid $25 for and send it to them. -Vox

Easiest is Nana hotel. http://www.nanahotel.co.th/html/index.html You can also check out www.sawadee.com and look at Sukumwit-area hotels. In the Nana price range (800-1200THB) in that area there is also Dynasty, Majestic, Honey, and Worraburi. -Vox

Heh, heh, my one ladyboy misadventure was with one of the GBB gals. If she's still there we can play the guess the ladyboy game. -Vox

Oops. Mea culpa. I always arrive around midnight and I just assumed it was 12:30 AM and that was why you were concerned about travel. -Vox

I've never heard of anyone doing it, but it occurs to me that coming in at that hour you could get a Sukumwit ST hotel room, pick up a girl have a few hours of fun and then catch the first 90 baht morning AC express bus to Pattaya from Ekamai station. -Vox

6:00 PM on the 22nd sounds fine to me as well. We need to remember to bump this thread as the date gets closer. -Vox
-
Yeah, noon is a bit early but presumably we'll be going out at night so as long as you get contact info to someone you can sleep in and meet up for the after-dark activities. -Vox

GBB is the beer bar attached to the Nana Hotel directly across the street fromt he entrance to NEP. I wont be going down to Pattaya on the 23rd, but I'm up for a party or prowl on the 22nd. Noon (or any other time) works for me. Anyone have some easily recognizable hat/shirt/etc? Maybe an FLB shirt? -Vox

Hey guys, I'll be at Nana during that time. We should set up a meeting on the 22nd. Golden Beer Bar? -Vox

Cable locks for laptops are pretty cheap. You can even get ones with alarms. They wont prevent someone who is determined but they will prevent a runner and you would be left with some evidence to show the hotel/police. -Vox

I'll be in Bangkok Dec 21-26 if either of you want to meet up for a drink or some bar hopping. -Vox

Maybe next time buy the guy a drink and listen to his story. One of the cool things about Thailand is the strange people you meet from all over the world. What I never got about the biker guys is how they can wear black and also leather vests in Thailand. I'm drenched in sweat walking 20 seconds in a t-shirt, shorts and sandles. -Vox

I was in Bangkok over last Christmas and it came and went before I realized that I had missed Christmas. Funny thing is I was with my brother and neither of us thought to mention it. The next morning we remembered and called our folks. The hello girls in the Santa hats probably should have tipped me off, but they had been wearing them for days so all I knew is that it was Christmas time. Mai bpen rai... -Vox

Thanks for the info guys. I knew that most colleges have some sorty of club team, but I had no idea that the U.S. fielded a team for international competition. It is good to know that we are the reigning Olympic Champs. If nothing else it makes for good cocktail party trivia. I wonder if we have a cricket team? -Vox

A friend of mine recently told me that JW Mariot and Landmark rooms could be had pretty cheaply through priceline. Might be worth checking on. -Vox

Serious question, is this a joke? Does the U.S. actually have a rugby team? -Vox

Hi Bill, Some of the local expats and long termers can answer better than I , but I've been in both December and May. I don't think there is any bad time to visit, just be aware that Nov-Feb is "high" season when Thailand gets the most tourists and as a result prices go up on hotels and some other things. High: More tourists, also more girls, higher prices Low: less tourists, less girls (but less competition for girls), lower prices. Also, the earlier you go in your time frame the cooler (relatively!) it will be. I'll be back in late December/early January and can't wait! -Vox

It is also the poorest region fo the country hence why so many girls leave to work in the sex industry. What I'm not sure of is if Issarn is an "official" region. Does it follow a set of administrative boundaries or is it just a general expression like "midwest" in the U.S.? anyone know? -Vox

Nice price, but not $100 under published http://search.travel.yahoo.com/bin/search/...?dc=BKK&intl=us which is $594 plus tax. Still probably the best you could have gotten for those dates ad certainly cheap for JAL. What are the restrictions on tix from Priceline? I've never bought through them but heard that you can't change and if you miss a flight you are really at their mercy. True? I wish I could stay two months! -Vox

Hi all, Anyone stayed at one of the Talay Villa suites? Guest friendly? For MANY girls at once? What about Cabbages and Condoms beachside villas? I'm looking for a place to hold a bachelor party and want a plave where there are at least two rooms and we can bring in 6 or so girls and get a bit rowdy. Of course I have already thought of the Penthouse but I'm looking for other places as well. -Vox
-
85+ % in both places? Maybe a little lower in Pattaya as there seem to be a lot of Chonthaburi girls. -Vox

Everything is pretty expensive for those dates right now. I recently coordinated a few people's travel plans and we all had to be in by NYE. No one was able to get under $1000 and we all booked weeks ago. During the process I noticed that days would fill up for anything close to $1000 and only $2000+ seats were available. You should bid at priceline what you are willing to pay and if that doesn't work just wait until later in January or hope some special deal arises. Good luck! I hope you find a way... -Vox

Singapore Air Introduces new non stop service
VoxVader replied to eltib's topic in Airline Discussion
Well, if they've already ordered the planes I would hope they would be able to get the routes going. I suppose 17 hours might not be too bad. Prescription sleeping pills and a few DVD's might get me through it. However, I hope to be living in LOS by 2005!! So will the new airport be connected to the subway that "opened" this year? -Vox -

Singapore Air Introduces new non stop service
VoxVader replied to eltib's topic in Airline Discussion
I just read a day or two ago--I swear I thought it was on this site!--that Thai air has orders in for long haul Airbuses that will be used to offer a direct BKK-LAX service starting in 2005. I really wonder if a 18-19 hour direct flight is better than one were you get to get out of the plane after 10-12 hours and still have an extra leg. I'm not sure I could take 18+ hours in coach. I could probably do it in business class. -Vox
